Chapter 14: *insert name here*

Annabeth's POV:

I'm glad that Percy and Thalia taught me how to fly before how to properly use lightning. I'm also thankful for Thalia asking for her father to bless me and said blessing. Without those things I would have certainly broken an ankle or something as I landed 20 or so feet below where I just came from.

I saw a medical pack that was meant for healing something broken like a limb but I had no use for it and the supplies it had weren't of any use on the ship so I left them...ok there was some bubble wrap that I popped before leaving to head down the dark scary tunnel.

Once I entered the tunnel I could tell I was being followed. I didn't really have the time to care as I came across a hole in the ground with a wooden plank that laid across the gap. I did the only thing I could and started moving along the plank.

I was about three quarters of the way across when I found out who my chasers were, a bunch of spiders. I felt panic rising in me, but also the feeling of I'm just tired of this shit. I threw the fire in my hand down the cavern I just entered, and probably incinerated a few thousand spiders instantly.

Some of the spiders were hesitant to continue others not so much. I decided to just use the flame in my hand as a flame thrower and sent flames back down the way I came. I continued my way off the plank and when I crossed I noticed that the plank itself was on fire and quickly turning to ash.

I started tiring from using the flamethrower hand and dropped the flames to see that the cavern behind me was set a blaze with the smell of burning spiders and webs coming from that direction.

I sighed in relief as I was sure that there wouldn't be anymore spiders coming from that direction. Though I also sighed in annoyance because it can only mean two things. I'm close to the statue and Arachne, and I just probably pissed off Arachne to an extreme degree.

I resigned myself of having to talk to the angry spider mom. Continue forward wasn't that bad of a deal. Until I came to a bright room lit with multiple braziers with the statue in the center.

"Hello Arachne" I stated, only for the woman to crawl out of hiding from behind the statue.

"That's all you have to say after killing so many of my children" she said angrily like she was about to attack.

"Sorry about that, but your ghost employees pissed me off and I can't exactly kill ghost. Your children just so happened to be the first killable beings to cross my path" I responded, much to Arachne's shock

"No matter I'll still kill you anyway. I know you're here for the statue"

"While I'm here for it I don't give a fuck about it" I said shocking her and causing her to crawl up to the top of the statue to ponder what I just said.

"Then why"

"Because she's a cruel goddess. Just look at how many of her very own kids she has sent to die on this very mission. Not to mention how she's punished others for mildly irritating her."I answered having no filter for my care for the goddess since she disowned me. "Honestly all I'm here to do is to prove she was wrong to disown me over my refusal of this quest."

Arachne seemed interested, "maybe I should keep you around then. Well that's if the goddess doesn't smite you first"

"She wouldn't." I responded, "to much trouble it will cause her and too much trouble keeping me here will cause you"

"How so"

"Well other than being adopted by Vesta. I'm currently dating Artemis's adopted son and a very possessive daughter of Zeus who prefers to shock first and ask questions later, assuming the shocking didn't kill that it is. Nonetheless my current job title is architect of Olympus."

Arachne seemed to realize how much trouble keeping me here could cause. But also seemed interested in my job title. "Architect of Olympus you say"

"Yeah I get to..." I paused seeing one of her works on the wall. It's more beautiful than the tapestry I seen Circe working on all those years ago and this one was of Thalia, Percy and I right after the battle of labyrinth when we cuddled together.

"You get to do what" Arachne asked snapping me out of my stupor.

"Design the public works now seeing as the rebuild is complete" I said still staring at the one tapestry. "How did you do that one" I asked still not taking my eyes off of it.

"Oh well the image came to me in a dream once and the three seemed so happy and relieved to be with each other I just couldn't help myself." She started before getting into the intricacies of actually weaving it.

I thought of a way to get the statue, that specific tapestry, and get out of this alive. "That's very good. I'm not even sure if the crafts goddess herself could make such a beautiful work." I stated, bolstering her ego. 'Nor do I think she would create it since I'm one of the subjects of the piece' I added in thought.

"Really you think so. She never let my work get seen before"

"Of course it's beautiful. In fact I think if you can make more works like that the goddess will have no choice but to accept your skill once I show off your work on exhibit on Olympus"

"You can do that" Arachne questioned

"I'm the architect of Olympus. I've been granted massive leeway with public works. Of course I can" I said giving her the confidence to let her work be seen.

"But" I said

"But what"

"No no it's too complicated" I said, "not even the crafts goddess can do it"

"What nonsense. I can do it. Just tell me" Arachne said

"Well we'll need to have a big opener. A draw to the exhibit. Something so great not even the goddess herself can make" I said. "I've had this design but she said she just can't do it because it's too complicated"

"Oh nonsense. Of course I can do it. Let me see."

"I don't know. It's pretty large and I only have the design in small scale at the moment"

"It's fine I can manage" Arachne pleaded.

I sighed, "ok then" I said and took out my laptop. I pulled up a rather simple design of a Chinese finger trap that Frank was a little confused about after the Stolls tricked him into putting his fingers in one. I did some quick calculations so that it would be big enough for Arachne to enter but troublesome for her to leave.

I showed Arachne the blueprint and she looked at it. "I can do that easily. Though how big is it."

I told Arachne the dimensions and she seemed to be doing some math in her head. "That's going to take a lot of webbing" she said. "It'll take me at least a year to produce enough"

"Certainly you can use some that is holding the room together" I stated and she was looking around the room still.

"Yes yes. That might just be enough" she said

"That's good. Though I do have a commission for setting this up for you" I said

"What. What commission" Arachne asked confused.

"Oh it's small of course. Just something for my private collection that I'll like." I said.

"What is it" she asked

"You see the tapestry that caught my attention. The one with the three people in it" I said to which she nodded, "well it reminds me of myself and my two lovers and I'd just love to have that piece for my private collection to have around. That's what I ask for in payment of arranging this behind the back of the crafts goddess."

Arachne seemed to ponder this for a moment. "After all we are both taking great risk and if she finds out she might try removing me from my position" I added. Thankfully my additional statement seemed to get the push I needed from Arachne.

"Of course of course" she said. "It is one of my best and favorites but I can part with it to get a shot of my works being displayed." She carefully went over to the tapestry of Percy, Thalia, and myself and took it down rolling it up very carefully. I'm starting to wish I took that bag of medical supplies but thankfully I had forgotten about the blueprint holder I had in my bag. I pulled that out as well as the blue prints it contained to make room for the tapestry.

"Thank you so much for this Arachne. I'll appreciate it for as long as I shall live" I said, feeling true to my words. As it's true. I refilled up the blue prints and rather half hazardous stuffed them back in my bag.

I sat on the base of the statue as Arachne worked and watched dutifully as she made her own trap to the specs that I gave her. You know. I guess it's a good thing that monsters hate learning modern stuff. I mean if she did she'd clearly see this is a trap, though I do feel bad.

I was looking down at the blueprint on my screen when I noticed a little notification window come up with a message from Thalia asking where I was and if I was safe.

'I'm with Arachne and I'm good at the moment' I replied. 'Though if you all are breaking in here be sure to secure the statue quickly and if you all have time or once the dust settles can you all collect the tapestries.' I asked in a second message.

"Watcha ya typing" Arachne asked as she continued working.

"Apollo wants more statues of himself, but he wants it to be in the nude and with a large one" I told her. While it's true it wasn't what I was working on.

"Oh you poor child" Arachne said.

"Tell me about it. Im just happy the love goddess and war god haven't asked for anything like that yet."

I got another notification window from Thalia stating that Jason will get as many tapestries as he can after the statue is secured.

I wondered why she and Percy wouldn't be doing that with me until I got another notification. This time saying that Percy and her have to talk to me while the others are securing the statue. I wondered what could be so important that they'd need to talk to me in person then.

Guessing I wasn't going to get another message I pulled up the statue Apollo wanted, though I haven't...how do I put this...added the appendage he wanted. I then closed my laptop and put it back in my bag.

"There done" Arachne said.

I went over and was 'inspecting' her work. First from the outside then I crawled inside the trap, careful to not get stuck on anything.

"Oh no" I said in sadness.

"What's wrong" Arachne asked worriedly.

"Oh I'm sure it's nothing you can't fix but there's a small flaw on the interior." I said crawling out as carefully as I entered.

"What. Where" Arachne asked shocked

"Towards the center on the upper right side the way I went in" I told her. "Maybe the crafts goddess was right. Maybe it is an impossible task" I added layering on the sadness.

"No no. I'll take a look. I'm sure I can fix it." Arachne said and crawled inside the trap. She was just barely small enough to get in.

"Huh I don't see anything" Arachne said. Not yet realizing her predicament. She started to try and crawl out but the trap worked and started constricting making it harder for her to get out. Thankfully she was stuck.

"What. What is this" Arachne asked

"I'm sorry Arachne." I said genuinely to her. "But my friends and I really need that statue. This was the only way I could think of to guarantee our capture of it." I told her.

"But my works" Arachne asked

"Will be displayed, at least in my private collection. Some of the ones will be displayed for the public" I told her. "I'm still not a fan of the crafts goddess, but the war effort comes first." I told her.

Arachne seemed both confused and angry. Though after a while Arachne let out a laugh that I couldn't tell if it was from madness or amusement.

"You certainly proved her wrong to disown you adopted daughter of Vesta" Arachne said. "Don't let her reclaim you for me alright" she said relaxing into the trap which confused me.

"Didn't plan on it anyway" I told her, "Though why did you stop struggling"

"Well you've clearly trapped me. I presume somehow your friends will find you free the statue, and I'm guessing you'll take the rest of my works. Eventually my children will find and free me" she said, which made me shiver a little. Despite being disowned I still have the fear of spiders.

When she finished an explosion rocked the ceiling right where my favorite piece was before I convinced Arachne to give it to me, and I knew my friends were here.
