Chapter 1: What did I do?

Fredrick's POV:

I saw my wife and sons off at the airport a while ago and have recently received numerous professors from across a wide variety of universities from both here in Europe and back in the States. Shortly after that, we received ground-penetrating radar and sonar equipment and began mapping the structure buried below us.

I was beginning to think that my daughter would love this, but we hadn't talked since she was 14, and she went away to see her mother at the Winter Olympian Council. And no, not Olympians like the athletes but like the Olympian Gods. And yes, the Gods hold a winter council and summer council on the two solstices.

I checked the time, and it was about time for me to call home. "Hey Fredrick, aren't you supposed to be making that call to your wife?" one of my British colleagues jested.

"Yeah, I was just about to get to that," I replied. I swear my co-workers know when I have to make that call before I do.

I went to one of the tents we had set up to give us shelter and a bit of privacy on-site and called my wife. "Hello, dear," I said as she picked up the phone.

"Good morning, Honey," She replied, forgetting that it was actually well into the afternoon here. "You'd never guess who showed up this morning."

"Did Annabeth show up?" I asked. I knew they were working on fixing their relationship before Annabeth left over winter break.

"not just her, but two other girls and a boy, as well," my wife replied.

"Were they asking for help? Did something happen?" I asked.

"Do you just forget about me and our sons?"

"Honey, I literally video-called you three about 10 hours ago, and you three were about to head to bed. My daughter comes and visits home after over three years, and I'd like to know why."

" I don't know. Yes, I'm speaking with your father," my wife said, starting to speak to someone on the other end of the line.

I don't know what happened, but my wife wasn't next on the line. "Fredrick," a masculine voice I did not recognize spoke next.

"Who are you? What..."

"Oh, shush. I'm not allowed to assassinate mortals yet," the voice replied. "Anyway, your wife and daughter are verbally arguing about who should get to speak with you."

Wait, assassinate mortals...oh shit, this is a God...or someone raised by them. But why would my daughter bring a god to the house? "One, I wasn't always one of those, and two, because I am her boyfriend."

"PERCY," I heard my daughter's voice on the phone.

"Hey, I didn't want him getting the wrong ideas just because of..."

"B.a.e., you should really shut up," the voice of my daughter's friend Thalia whispered and was barely audible through the phone.

Wait, Bay. "Dad," my daughter spoke through the phone, interrupting my thoughts.

"Yeah," I said.

"how's it going?" she asked.

"Well, your brother hurt himself on our summer trip, and he may have accidentally also made a historic discovery. I am current..."

"wait, historic discovery. Where?"

"Slovenia," I answered.

"You have got to be fucking kidding me," My daughter replied. "YES, HE SAID SLOVENIA," she yelled, and I started hearing laughter from the other end of the line. "It is not funny, you three. This is serious," my daughter stated.

"Do you have an idea of what I found?" I asked, switching to modern Greek because I do not think anyone here speaks that language.

"It's probably a temple, but you probably already know that by scans, don't you? And you all haven't found anything nearby, I presume?"

"Correct," I answered my daughter.

She sighed heavily from the other side of the phone. "I don't trust anyone else to translate, so I'll send some..." she paused.

"I'll send a friend and a half-brother of mine," she finally said after a pause. " I can't believe it was you, of all people," she muttered.

"Should I be worried," I asked.

"You personally? No, I don't believe so, but just know you'll probably be in the history books for your discovery, Dad. Also, neither Mom nor I will be able to help you with this one, so accept the help I do send. I still have my phone, so you can call me directly. Anyway, here's your wife and my little brothers," she said, handing off the phone.

"HEY, DAD, ANNIE IS BACK, BUT SHE SAYS SHE HAS TO LEAVE SHORTLY. SHE'S TAKING US TO SCHOOL," my sons yelled into the phone.

"That's cool, boys, but perhaps you can talk normally; phones don't require yelling," I reminded them.

"We know that. We just wanted to make sure you could hear us, old man," they replied.

"Boys," I warned.

"Sorry, Dad," They replied, and again, I heard some chuckling from the other end of the line.

"Who's laughing over there?" I asked.

"Annabeth's Boyfriend and Girlfriends," They said. "We asked her why, and she told us she's bi and poly, but that's something for us to figure out what it means when we're older."

"Wait, so the people that are with her..."

"Are her boyfriend and Girlfriends, yes," they interrupted.

"She's too young to date," I said. "She should be focusing on her studies."

"Mom said the same thing. Annabeth flipped her off while the other girl held Thalia back from beating up Mom. She stopped trying to attack Mom by now if you couldn't tell." They said, "Sorry, it's Reyna, not the other girl."

"Well, be good for your mother, boys," I said, and they hung up the phone.

I sighed in tiredness. My boys would definitely not survive a meeting with Lady Artemis, and I prayed they never encountered her. I at least have a little hope, but not much, as I'll admit I've been a horrible father to Annabeth at times. Athena, help my sons, please.

"Dr. Chase," one of the PhD students said, coming into the tent.

"Yes."

"Your call seemed shorter than usual," they said.

"A little family drama at home," I answered. "My daughter made an unexpected visit with some friends, but she and my wife don't get along well. While her friends, from what I heard, were mostly laughing."

"Teenagers?"

"I believe so," I said.

The student nodded, "Well, we are about to close up shop for today. Also, the computer finished compiling the sonar images, and it appears to be a temple, as expected, though the image got blurry the deeper we went, almost like there was some sort of interference."

"Thank you," I said to them. "I'll look into it before calling it a night."

Line break: I've been fired again...so long.

I went to the computers and looked at the compiled files and originals. The compiled files were actually quite cool to look at. It appears that what my son stumbled upon was just the entryway, and the rest of the temple was carved into the mountain. It makes me wonder if this was the temple of some local mountain deity or perhaps a wild god like the god Pan. There was definitely either a central pillar or some sort of statue that centered the interior space, but everything below it in the compiled scans was blurry, as the student informed me.

I switched off to the original scans, which indicated two cavities in the mountain, one above the other. I wonder if the computer programs just haven't learned to process that information yet.

Bonus: Well, We rolled up Interstate 44 like a Rocket sle...Oh, Hi frens, wait line break is leaving...BYE LINE BREAK.

"I can't believe that out of all the people who find my temple, it's your father," Percy laughed.

"IT'S SO FUCKING HILARIOUS," Thalia laughed out, grabbing at her stomach and rolling on the floor.

"CAN YOU TWO PLEASE JUST STOP?" I yelled at them over their laughter.

"In their defense, Annabeth, your father is going to find a statue of the four of us in there, and that is pretty hilarious," Reyna defended them.

"Not you, too," I whined.

"Daughter, calm down, even I find it amusing," Lady Vesta spoke.

"Why do none of you see the problem with this? Percy will be able to violate the ancient laws and interfere with mortals directly."

"Because my dear child, my champion already promised to limit it to those deserving. You trust him as I do, correct?"

"Yes," I mumbled.

"Are you worried he would kill your mortal father?" Reyna asked.

" A little. You all have heard me rant about him," I said weakly. I may dislike my father, but I don't want him dead, especially not by my lover's hand.

"Fine, I won't kill him. I promise you," Percy said, trying to comfort me. "Unless you tell me to, or he goes too far."

"Define too far," I said.

"Mass murder," Thalia interrupted.

"Harming maidens," Artemis and Zoe added.

"Inappropriately touching kids," Percy said.

I couldn't argue against either of those, and in all fairness, if he did that, I'd probably try beating Percy to the punch in killing my father.
