Chapter 9: bull fighting

The satyr had been dragging me through the rain for a while now and surface to say we were drenched.

"Where in the world are we going?" I yelled over some thunder (drama king much Zeus?). 'Just play dumb.' Was my train of thought.

"A camp for de-" he hesitated, "for others like you."

The ground shook as lightning struck a tree not far from us. I grabbed the shirt of the goat boy and yanked him back as the tree fell in front of us, a small fire burning brightly from the leaves slowly growing as it moved to the trunk.

"Maybe, instead of getting us killed, we wait the storm out somewhere," I told him.

"We can't. I need to get you to the camp as quickly as possible! Before they find us!" His voice was filled with worry. I know he was talking about the monsters, but I still need to play dumb.

"Who is they?" I had to yell over thunder once more.

The satyr ignored me and kept leading us up the road. Somewhere along, I saw a sign for a strawberry farm. As we kept moving, I heard what sounded almost as a roar.

"What was that?" I asked him. He paled at the question and started moving faster. At this point, I'm getting a bit tired of having to play dumb, but some of the reactions make it worth it, I guess.

So do you remember that tree I mentioned earlier? It really must not have liked us because it came flying at us. I heard it, or at least the flames before I saw it.

I looked behind me and saw the tree. I grabbed goat boy and forced us into a muddy trench at the side of the road. Goat Boy groaned when he hit the ground.

"Sorry," I whispered. "Now, stay quiet, please."

He gave me a look of annoyance.

"Now, how close are we?"

" just up the hill." He said, jabbing his head in said direction. I nodded before helping him up and started walking in the direction.

I will say it now; he is not as light as he looks. By the time we were halfway up the hill, a loud moo had echoed behind us. I looked over my shoulder to see the 'man' of all bulls. Or would it be the 'bull' of all men?

"Holy shit!" I exclaimed, "that's the Minotaur!"

I swear, I heard someone say, "what gave that away?" But just figured it was my head making jokes about my faked stupidity.

"Don't say its name!" He hissed, "names have power."

I nodded, even though I did not believe any of that, before dragging Goat Boy to a tree.

"You sit here. I will go and deal with Mr. bull-man."

"You can't do that! You will get yourself killed!"

"If it's that big of a problem then," I paused as I grabbed a large branch and broke it off. "Use this to go get back up."

I handed him the branch before turning to the half bull.

"You're a crazy person!" The satyr yelled at me.

"The best people are!" With that, I ran into the open. "Hey, ground beef!"

I had grabbed a rock and threw it at him. Maybe not my best idea.

"MOOOOOOO!" He charged at me. I felt my heart pumping and my blood rushing through my veins.

Every cell in my body told me to run, to move out of his way, but I stayed there. He got closer and closer until he was seconds away from me.

Last second I jumped to the right. I felt the bull's horn graze the side of my arm just enough to draw blood. I let out a soft hiss at this, but push the pain away.

I took off my bag to grab a blanket and became a temporary bullfighter.

"Tauro! Tauro!" I yelled over more thunder (geez Zeus calm down). It stopped and turned to me.

The Minotaur rushed at me again. I went to move again when it was close, but he grabbed the blanker and used it to send me flying into the tree at the top of the hill. I groaned.

"Well, if that didn't break a few ribs, it sure as hell bruised them," I muttered to myself as I slowly stood.

"You make a sucky bullfighter." I heard the same voice, but it didn't register with me this time since the Minotaur did not give me any time before attacking again.

It ran at me, arms out, and ready to grab me if I tried to dodge. So I did the only thing I could think of. When it got close, I used its head as a springboard.

I landed on its back, holding on tightly to one of its horns as the strong smell of rotten flesh filled my senses. Then came an idea. At the time, it seemed like a good one.

The bull-man shook and thrashed around to get me off. Did not work. I leaned back and used all my remaining strength to bring the horn with me. I had tilted back so much that I fell when the horn had finally snapped off.

"Shit!" I yelled as I fell back. When I hit the ground, I groaned, followed by a 'fucking hell.'

I got back up when I got some air back in me, holding the horn tightly. The Minotaur turned to look at me, a raging fire in its eyes.

Anything that happened next is a blur to me. When I told Thanatos about the lost time, he told me I had smacked me head one to many times during that fight; I think he was right, but don't tell him that.

All I knew was that I was covered in gold dust and had passed out after getting to some kind of porch. Then just black.
