Chapter 9: Bianca Returns...According to Nico
Annabeth's POV:
Chiron and Perseus wanted to wait for any war council meetings for the hunt to arrive since they were coming within a week of our arrival. Though we were assured, there was nothing of extreme urgency that nature spirits weren't regularly updating us on.
Thalia, Percy, and I spent most of our time in the arena training ourselves or the other campers. There weren't many this year. Attendance has been lowering ever since Luke left.
This, though, leads us to where we are now on day five, waiting for the war council to be called and just finishing warmups. Some of the campers have started doing our warmup as well, but so far, Clarisse is the only one close to coming in under an hour, and she's still plus 40 minutes. However, she seems more focused on working out than training weapons.
Others started doing the modified version we gave to Nico and were doing well. But they wanted the weapons training more. And a few were off doing their own training regiment. Mainly the Apollo kids because most of them were archers. Silena even got most of her cabin doing a training regiment.
I was just about to start a short-blade training session with some of my siblings and the Hermes kids when the hunting horn sounded off.
The Hermes kids and my siblings sighed in relief. "Hey, the hunters' arrival doesn't excuse you. Match up and start sparring," I ordered
Many of them sighed and did as instructed.
"BIANCA" I heard Nico yell.
I sighed, knowing he was already out of the arena heading for his sister. Percy and I followed, leaving Thalia, and our other teachers, to train everyone. She enjoys it for some reason.
Percy and I finally got up to the hill where the hunters were and saw some girls aiming their weapons at Nico while Zoë was trying to get them to calm down.
Bianca and Nico, though, were sharing a hug. "I missed you," Nico said
"I missed you too, little bro," Bianca said and rubbed his head, messing up his hair.
"Ohhhh," the hunters who had their bows aimed at Nico said. "You should have told us you had a little brother," they said
"I did"
"I thought he would be smaller," one of them defended
Then they saw Percy. I moved to the side as they started rushing him.
"LITTLE BRO" most of them shouted. The rest shouted big brother. I think I made a wise decision as they tackled him.
Zoë remained standing next to Bianca, "they're insane."
"Well, sorry if we haven't seen him since two winters ago," Phoebe retorted
Zoë looked sheepish and whistled casually like she hadn't seen him since then, which is a lie.
The next thing I know, Percy is getting slapped by the hunters. "That's for worrying milady last year," they all said after smacking him.
Chiron trotted up the hill, "Hello, hunters."
"Chiron," Zoë replied.
"You all can get settled in. We will have a war council after lunch," Chiron said
"I'll be there," Zoë responded. "Sisters, head to the cabin and drop your things off on an open bunk. Then come meet me in the arena."
The hunters went to drop their stuff off while Phoebe took Zoë's stuff to do the same. "Now, little bro, let's go see what I have to work with."
She sounded like the Gunnery Sargent from Full Metal Jacket. I feel sorry for our fellow half-bloods now. Sure Thalia, Percy, and I weren't easy, but Zoë sounds like she will be ruthless.
Line Break
I was right. Zoë was ruthless to them. Most were praying for lunch to come within minutes of Zoë's arrival. It did eventually come. But Zoë and the other hunters dragged Percy, Thalia, and myself to lunch. Well, not literally, but they did force us to go. We grabbed a very light lunch, however.
Chiron started stomping his hoof as lunch was almost over. "War council after lunch," he announced, which meant the senior cabin counselors would be having a meeting about the war.
Percy and Zoë, however, were fighting over who the cabin counselor was.
"I'm older," Zoë said
"I live here for a few months out of the year," Percy retorted
This went back in forth till lunch ended.
"Why don't you both go and stop annoying me" Phoebe suggested
Percy and Zoë shared a look. Phoebe ran off quickly.
"What was that," Bianca asked an older hunter, which I knew as Atalanta.
"Oh, Phoebe got in the middle of one of their sibling arguments, as we call it," she explained. "That look they shared is usually a temporary truce."
I grabbed Zoë and Percy and dragged them off to the meeting.
Percy sat down in the chair, Zoë tried pushing him off, but he didn't budge. Then she sat on him, which caused him to stand and Zoë to fall. Then they started fighting again.
Chiron clopped his hoof on the ground, "CHILDREN, STOP" he yelled.
Percy and Zoë stopped, giving each other the truce look. "Argus can you grab another chair from storage, please," Chiron asked. "Preferably silver to keep these two from fighting"
Argus left and returned with a silver chair which Zoë took.
"Good, now onto the war," he said
Time skip: hello, you have not been authorized to attend the meeting.
We spent the entire afternoon in the meeting. From enemy troop movements. Plans to disrupt that. To raids to capture alleged weapons caches. To what we should focus on in our forges.
Zoë offered the hunt to go after and disrupt troop movements, but that was denied, as they were requested to train the campers. That and Chiron said their lady sent them here for a reason, and he was told what it was. Zoë looked like she knew, but she wasn't happy about it.
However, other cabin counselors, except Percy, Thalia, and myself, were given missions to attend, as it was better for us to train others. Hades, even Peter, got a mission.
Nico didn't, though, because he was not a senior counselor, on the technicality of not having a cabin. I'm surprised he's here, but honestly, I don't mind. Hades deserves representation at camp. I hope I get to design it if it ever gets approved.
