Chapter 4: Hestia Can Prank. Oh And There's Doctor Apollo
Three months later from the last chapter
Artemis's POV:
I'm starting to realize why the council voted against the methods of training I'm using. Not only are they being stubborn and completing exercises they shouldn't have been able to. They are progressing at a rate where they'll be able to fight off most minor gods without using powers by the time they would have to return.
The only problem is that the bracelets will reach the max settings by the end of the year, which is only a couple of weeks away. At which point, it will mostly be stamina training for them. Which is good, I suppose, but it is far quicker than I estimated.
On the other hand, Bianca has completed her initial training with Zoë. So they went off to join the rest of the hunt. And if the reports I received are correct. There are only a few monsters that haven't joined remaining.
"Hey, sis," Apollo said, flashing in.
He immediately saw the bracelets on the three and that it wasn't making them immobile, "uh, sis. That was voted against."
"I know," I replied
"So why do they have godly training bracelets on," he asked.
Thalia did a spit take, "THESE ARE MADE FOR GODS."
"Yes," I said off-handedly, "you won't tell the others, right," I asked my brother.
He hesitated, "I didn't think they would have survived with them on," he whispered so the children didn't hear.
"Why do you think I've been asking for all the medical supplies?" I responded.
"Let me give them a check-up," he pleaded.
I sighed and nodded, "you three have the day off after Apollo gives you a check-up."
"Shouldn't we be dead if these were designed for godly use?" Annabeth questioned.
"I tampered with them and made some lower settings than the stock version," I replied. Apollo looked impressed and understood how they weren't immobilized.
"Oh, and by the way, sis Typhon is awake and working on an escape," Apollo said. I knew I paled as well as the kids. However, Percy looked sheepish, like it might have been his fault. Gods dammit, why does it have to be my son?
"Would the earthquake I caused in Hephaestus's forge be why?" he asked.
"No," Apollo lied horribly.
"You need to learn to lie, uncle," My son said, "sorry, by the way."
"It's fine. It wasn't your intent," I responded, silently cursing the fates before heading off to maintain my weapons and make a few more arrows.
Thalias POV:
I can't believe my sister did this to us. I mean, yeah, sure, it helps, but we could have been killed telling how Apollo reacted and that it was voted against using this method.
Though I can't deny the benefits of it, and at least she toned it way down before we started but still. This seems like a test or experiment, even if there is no alternative.
"So now that she's gone. Check-up time," Apollo stated. "Do you wanna do this together or separately?" he asked.
I shared a look with Percy and Annabeth and just shrugged. We didn't care at this point. Considering each time we have passed out from training, we woke up together, and Artemis doesn't stop us or even question us sharing a tent now. She did a couple of times at the start but has since stopped.
"I don't mind," Annabeth said
"Same," I replied
Plus, if Apollo forces Percy to take his shirt off, I will see his chest again.
"Ok," Apollo replied, pulling out a bag and doctor's equipment.
Time skip: Apollo did boring doctor stuff and started speaking haikus. He was kicked and punched a few times.
When all was said and done, we had our temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygenation, blood test, a reflex test, and an EKG done. We were also asked questions about our diet and other things. And yes, he asked if we were sexually active.
I don't know why doctors ask that, but I kicked him where he doesn't shine for it. Can you explain it to me, if any of you are doctors, why you ask such a question of 15-year-olds?
The only thing that Apollo was concerned about was that our resting heart rate was in the high 30s.
He said it was the lowest he's seen in a demigod of our age. But, honestly,
I don't understand nor care all that much about it. If my heart is working and getting my blood to where it needs to go and on time, it is acceptable to me.
"So what do we do now," Annabeth asked as Apollo went to Artemis to discuss at least Percy's medical stuff. But knowing him, it's probably all of ours.
"We haven't been on a date in a while," Percy pointed out.
"Yeah, but where will we go," I asked, "if you hadn't noticed, we are in the middle of the Rocky Mountains."
"She has a point," Annabeth backed me.
Percy, however, rolled his eyes and dragged us off to a clearing we repeatedly encountered along our recent runs.
"Why bring us here," I asked.
"It's a nice view for a picnic, I think," Percy replied. I have to admit he was right. We were overlooking a river cutting through a valley with mountains as a backdrop where the clearing was.
"We didn't," Annabeth started, only to see Percy playing with fire in his hands, "can you summon food being Hestia's champion."
"Well, I don't know," Percy responded, "but I can try or ask Hestia to supply us with food" As he said this, the fire leaped out of his hands, and he got an oh crap look like that wasn't supposed to happen.
The fire hit the ground and burst up before a woman took its place, "is my champion asking for my help on his date" she said coyly.
Percy still looked like he was about to have a heart attack, "I think he meant to, Lady Hestia," I responded.
She chuckled. "Sorry for scaring you like that, Perseus," Hestia apologized. "But I guess I can help you," she finished disappearing in a pillar of flames and being replaced with a wide picnic spread.
"I thought I just started a wildfire," Percy whispered softly.
"Don't worry, she was just messing with you a little," I replied, "we are technically her family after all."
"Yeah, I guess," Percy said, "I suppose she's a little upset I haven't talked to her recently."
Suddenly, Percy and I heard munching, "what" Annabeth sounded defensive, "you two were taking too long."
Percy let out a light chuckle. Soon we enjoyed our meal and a lovely sunset, likely provided by Apollo, which Aphrodite or Hestia probably demanded.
