Chapter 1: The New Oracle
Percy's POV:
"We have a new oracle," Chiron said at the emergency meeting that he called the cabin heads to. But, of course, Rachel was there and walked down the stairs right before he said that.
"Wait, what do you mean we have a new oracle," Peter asked.
"I mean what I said. The Oracle of Delphi has a new host," Chiron stated
"So, Hades removed his curse," Clarisse asked.
"Or the conditions for the curse's removal were met," I said
"Yes, either of those two things happened," Chiron said, "but we won't know as only Hades knew the conditions of the curse."
"Wait, what is this curse," Rachel asked, "I'm not going to end up like the mummy in the attic, right."
"As long as you don't piss off the gods," Dionysius said, "or as long as the oracle doesn't."
"I don't know if you can hear me, but you better not piss them off. I'm not going to end up being a mummy," Rachel said to no physical body in particular.
"What does this mean, Chiron" Annabeth asked
Chiron sighed, "we've already promised Rachel she could return home for the school year. I hope you all agree we can't break that promise."
"We can't leave her effectively defenseless either," Clarisse stated
"Hey, I can take care of..." Rachel started but was interrupted.
"If it becomes known that you are the oracle. You will be just as much target as any of us would be," Clarisse interrupted
"Then what would you have us do, Clara," Dionysius asked, reading out of a wine magazine. I don't know why my uncle is torturing himself. Gramps told him no more wine last week.
"At least send her a security detail," she said before glaring at Peter, "One that's proven capable."
Peter looked like he wanted to object.
"And who would do that? Who wants to protect the mortal" Dionysius asked
"Oracle," Chiron amended
"Percy, Annabeth, and I can't. We already have obligations outside of camp for the school year," Thalia said
"I can," Peter said
"My father is sending me to an all-girls school," Rachel said quickly.
I don't know if that's true, but that was one hell of a shutdown.
Everyone turned to Clarisse and Silena on account that they were the only two girls present that were free and cabin leaders. "I already made plans with Charlie," Silena said, looking pleadingly at Clarisse.
Clarisse was thinking hard. I knew she didn't want to leave camp as it was her home and was nearly destroyed a few weeks ago. "I'll do it. But I would like Coach there as well," she said
"You're crazy," Travis said
"No, Coach is crazy," Connor said
"They're both crazy," the two brother sons of Hermes agreed.
"Who's Coach," Rachel asked.
"One of the best dam Satyrs there ever is. Certainly, the best in a fight," Clarisse said
"I don't know. Grover held his own in the labyrinth," Thalia said
"And he's too young for this. Coach can post as a teacher," Clarisse said.
"Now tell me, how much am I going to hate this school, Red."
"Probably a lot. I think even Aphrodite's kids may hate this school," Rachel responded.
"Dear gods please not Clarion," Silena mumbled. I know the school. It's some girls' preparatory school, and it's not to prepare them for further education or life on their own. One of my sisters went there and ran away after a week, where she then found us after who knows how long. I was only six at the time. So it's been a while.
Rachel just nodded her head, but Clarisse didn't notice.
"Alright. I'll continue Red's training as well. If she is our oracle, she'll have to be able to defend herself," Clarisse said
"Good. I'll manipulate the mist a bit and get you in Clarisse," Chiron said, "make sure to pack the gear you need to train Rachel. Meeting dismissed"
Most counselors left, but Clarisse, Thalia, Annabeth, and I stayed back. "So," Chiron asked, not looking at me. Things have never been right between the old horse and me, but I've been behaving better mainly because others just got tired of telling me no or I can't do that.
Sorry ADHD. "You know where we are heading and why," Thalia stated
Chiron nodded, "I suggest you get yourselves packed. I don't know when they'll be here."
"Tomorrow. Mom wants to talk to Bianca about reconsidering her offer," I said since most campers are leaving today.
Chiron nodded, "ok then. Have fun on your last official day then," he told us, dismissing us. I don't know, but we still stayed back.
"Why are you all staying," Clarisse asked.
"Because Percy is," Thalia and Annabeth responded.
"I've heard of the school and am interested in your reaction," I said
Clarisse paled and looked like a child of Hades rather than Ares, "how bad is it"
"It's a girls' preparatory school," Rachel said
"It can't be that bad," Clarisse mumbled.
Rachel looked at me as if asking me to tell her, "if I were making a bet on how long you would last. I would bet less than a week"
"Dear gods, what do they do."
"Prepare a girl to be a high-class woman, wife, and mother," Rachel said, cringing a bit.
"Can I kill her father?" Clarisse asked
"No," Chiron stated, "Mr. Dare is a wealthy man, and his death would be investigated thoroughly by the police."
"Stupid mortals and their stupid money," Clarisse mumbled.
"I'm sorry, Clarisse," Rachel tried.
"Save it, Red. It ain't you, it's your old man, and we both have problems in that department," Clarisse stated, "let's go to Silena. See what I should get, so I don't look too out of place."
Thalia, Annabeth, and I all shared an 'oooh, this is going to be good' look as we followed Clarisse out. Chiron, though, seemed relieved he didn't have to tell and said he would get Coach Hedge.
Line break: Clarisse was violent at hearing what she would have to wear, but Silena pulled in her favor from getting Clarisse and Chris together
Clarisse's POV:
I'm going to kill RED's father. I have to wear these stupid restrictive, stereotypically girly clothes that even Aphrodite's kids started feeling bad for me.
At least Silena is. However, she looks exceptionally grateful that I'm going instead of her. She even apologized for making me do so with the favor I owed her.
"Hey Clarisse, you ready, cupcake" Coach asked from outside the cabin.
"Can I kill her father, please, Coach?" I asked, lugging my luggage for the school year out of my cabin
"Sadly, no cupcake. But if I find any monsters, you can kill them," Coach bargained.
I just sighed, as from what I heard from Percy and Silena, I may end up destroying the school, and no, it won't be because of a monster attack.
"Clarisse, I wish you luck on your endeavor this year," Chiron said
"Yeah, well, if I don't show up, I'll probably be in prison," I off-handedly remarked.
"You and Hedge will be new at the school. Hedge teaching history, and Clarisse, you have all your classes with Rachel. She'll also be on the same dorm floor as you."
"Wait, I have to live there as well," I asked Chiron.
"Yes," he responded
"I should have bet on how long you would last."
"Shut it, Prissy," I snapped back at the entourage I've had since I agreed to go.
"Rachel also convinced her father to allow you to stay with them till the school year starts next week," Chiron added, "Hedge will be staying near the school, however."
I sighed, "I shouldn't have volunteered...wouldn't have if I knew all this shit was happening."
"Look at it this way, Clarisse. At least you'll be able to teach the oracle multiple ways to fight," Percy said
"Yes, while you go prancing in the woods freely killing monsters you come across with your two girlfriends," I retorted
"I suggest you get a move on Clarisse. Mr. Dare will be arriving soon to pick you and his daughter up," Chiron stated as Chris ran up.
"Alright then. I'll see where Red lives," I said, saying bye to everyone present and kissing Chris on the cheek, "I'll be back. When I am, you better be here," I whispered in his ear before heading off to a school year of torture.
"You think she'll mellow out" I heard Chris ask just before I was out of hearing range.
"Not a chance," Percy laughed, clapping my boyfriend on the back before heading off to do whatever he usually does.
