The common room was crowded with older students from all houses. Years four and under had been ushered to bed by none other than Moomy and Dadfoot.
James was sitting on the floor cradling a bottle of firewhiskey. I followed the trail to where James' eyes were looking.
Hmm, Lily Evans. What a shocker.
Lily was standing in a group with her friends Marlene McKinnon, Mary MacDonald, Alice Fortescue, and Dorcas Meadows.
"Hey, Daph!"
I snapped my gaze back to see that Jolie had joined the party. She had missed dinner.
"Hey, Jo, where were you during dinner?" I asked, already knowing the answer.
Her arctic eyes were wild, along with her hair. "I was meeting a friend."
"Oh, a friend you say?" I teased back.
"You're just upset that your summer romance still lives in France."
I rolled my eyes at her. "You're right, stupid Beauxbatons. I could've gone there but my parents just had to move us to fucking Scotland."
"She was quite pretty. What was her name again-"
"Amelie."
Jolie laughed, "Now I remember!"
I laughed with Jolie, but my attention was still on James. "I'm gonna go check on James, he hasn't been taking it well."
"As I assumed," Jolie muttered, "I'll find you later, I'm gonna go catch up with our roommates."
I smiled, "Okay, I'll catch up with you later. I haven't had a chance to talk to Lily and Marlene yet."
Jolie planted a quick kiss on my cheek and made her way to our roommates and friends.
I ran my hand through my hair and walked over to where James was still sitting. He looked up at me as I sat down, "You don't have-"
"Shut up and pass the bottle."
James chuckled and handed me his bottle of firewhiskey.
I raised the bottle in the air before bringing it up to my lips. Instead of taking a swig, I took several sips despite the protests from James for me to slow down.
"James, you're not the only one who has problems to drink away."
"I did realize that." James mumbled taking the firewhiskey back from me.
"Yeah-, wait! What did you say?"
James took a swig of firewhiskey, "Tu n'es pas le seul à parler français."
"C'est tout simplement génial. Passe moi la bouteille." I mumbled, extending my hand for James to give me the now almost empty bottle.
James passed the bottle, and our fingers brushed against each other. He smirked, "We really should stop drinking."
"I thought you were drinking to forget?"
"Well, I think there's going to be some things that I'll want to remember."
I took a sip of the firewhiskey, which burned slightly as it ran down my throat into my stomach. I passed the bottle back to James who took the final sip before tossing it aside onto the couch.
Remus walked over to James and me, eyeing the empty bottle of firewhiskey behind us.
"This is just wonderful."
James smirked, "You know you love us."
"Where's Padfoot?" I asked, extending my hand from Remus to pull me up from the floor.
Moony rolled his eyes and pointed to the corner of the common room.
Sirius was in the corner of the common room, with a bottle of firewhiskey, and he was swaying with the beat of the music with his eyes closed.
"Well, he's peaceful." James muttered standing up to join Remus and me.
"Did you both drink this whole thing?" Remus questioned, grabbing the empty bottle.
James and I exchanged a glance before we both burst out laughing.
"Maybe," I slurred, "But hey-, at least I'm not snogging someone in plain sight."
James smirked, "She's quite right."
Remus rolled his eyes, "I hate both of you ."
I placed a kiss on Moony's cheek, "You love me."
"Hey! Where's my kiss?" James teased, his words starting to slur.
I smirked at James and placed a kiss on his cheek as well, making him blush slightly. "Happy now, Potter?"
"Wow, and I thought I was special." Remus teased, a wide smile on his face.
Despite his scarred face, Remus had one of the best smiles I've ever seen. It's always genuine, warm, and friendly.
I just wish Sirius would stop being a fuck boy and be with who he really wants to be with.
"We should play a game!" James announced, getting the attention of several people. He stood up on the coffee table and yelled, "Who wants to play truth or dare?"
The cheers and mutters of agreement would be heard and James stumbled off of the table, with the help of Remus. He took his seat on the floor as some people gathered around.
After about a minute of shuffling around, we have formed a circle. It included me, James, Remus, Jolie, Sirius, Marlene, Mary, Lily, Alice, Dorcas, Frank, and a boy from our house named Peter.
He seemed nice enough but I had never really gotten to know him, and I am fine with keeping it that way. He seems a bit off.
I sat in between James and Remus, at least until Jolie saw me and squeezed her way between Remus and me.
Jolie's eyes were red and she was moving sluggishly. She was wearing light wash ripped jeans and a cropped turtle shirt. Her hair was braided back into two French braids, and her outfit was topped off with her white Converse.
"Hey Jo, how's it going?" I giggled.
Jolie leaned her head against my shoulder, "Let's just say I will regret this in the morning."
We both began laughing but were quickly hushed by James, who was trying to get the game of truth or dare started.
I stared down at my shoes. I had chosen to wear my black Vans, white jeans, and a red halter top. My outfit was pretty great if you ask me.
"Okay, I'll go first, and whoever I pick will go next, got it?" James announced.
Everyone nodded in agreement and turned their attention to James, who was pondering who to ask. He ran his hand through his mop of black curls before smirking.
"Sirius," James slurred, "Truth or dare?"
Merlin, this is going to get chaotic fast.
"Dare." Padfoot replied, his voice was loud against the quietness of our 'circle'.
Remus leaned over and whispered to me, "This is going to be bad."
I nodded in agreement, fighting the sudden urge to start laughing hysterically. The alcohol was starting to affect me, making my emotions heightened.
James flashed his signature grin, "I dare you to go skinny dip in the Black Lake."
"Easy-"
"I'm not finished." James chuckled, "Remus has to go with you to make sure that you follow through on your dare."
"Who's going to babysit you and Daph?" Remus teased, earning him a middle finger from James.
I looked around the room before focusing on a person. "Lily can! She's very responsible."
Remus looked at Lily who was stifling a grin. "Lils, you don't have-"
"Oh please, they can't be that bad." Lily smiled back, nodding at Remus.
Jolie let out a laugh, "You say that now-"
"Well get on with it! Wait-, take your turn before you leave." James insisted, his words becoming more and more slurred.
Sirius let out a laugh before taking a second to pick his victim. He looked around the room at everyone's faces before his dark brown eyes landed on me.
Fuck.
"Daphne, truth, or dare?"
I thought for a second, "Truth."
"True or false? You fancy someone in this room."
Fancy is a broad word. I don't fancy anyone. Sure I would shag some of the people in my year, but I don't necessarily fancy anyone.
"False, I don't fancy anyone."
I could feel James' hazel eyes on my back as I faced Sirius.
Sirius smirked, "Maybe fancy was the wrong word?"
He shot me a wink before heading out through the portrait hole, practically dragging Moony behind him.
I rolled my eyes at the boys as they left the room.
Who to pick?
"Lily, truth, or dare?" I asked, eyeing the red-headed girl.
Her fiery hair was straight, and she was wearing a plaid skirt and a tight white t-shirt. She nervously looked at her shoes, which were white ankle boots, before her green eyes met mine.
"Truth." Lily replied, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
I let out a sigh, quickly looking at James who was sitting beside me. James was looking down, his hand propping up his head.
It was hard to tell if it was because he was sad or because he is absolutely fucked up.
"Okay, Lily," I teased, "How many people in this room have you kissed?"
It was a lame question, but it was all I could think of.
Lily's face blushed as red as her hair. She made a quick glance around the room, "Three."
James' head shot up.
"What? Me and who else?"
Lily rolled her eyes, "Wouldn't you like to know Potter."
There was a sort of awkwardness in the room now. Aside from our little group, there were still other people in the common room who were completely oblivious to our silly game.
I coughed, "Anyways, your turn Lily."
Lily smirked, "Potter, truth or dare?"
Well shit.
James scoffed at her, "Dare, of course."
"Okay, just making sure." Lily teased, which earned her a glare from James.
Even though he had given up on her, they were still friends. They had been acting this way towards each other ever since first year, and even before James claimed that he was in love with Lily.
"I dare you to kiss someone in this circle."
James smirked.
He was definitely going to take this opportunity to kiss Lily-
James' hands gripped my cheeks as he tilted my head towards his. Next thing I knew his lips were on mine.
Bloody hell.
After the wave of shock faded, I began to kiss James back. At first, the kiss was soft and gentle, but I parted my lips to let his tongue into my mouth.
Thank Merlin for all of the firewhiskey or I would be so self-aware right now.
I was beginning to lose track of time as James and I kissed. It was probably the alcohol.
But eventually, the common room door burst open, making James and I pull away from each other.
I quickly turned away and looked at the portrait hole. Sirius was standing there, his hair soaking wet and his clothes slightly damp. Remus was standing beside him and was in the middle of a laugh before he and Sirius laid eyes on our group.
"Were you just-"
"Prongs, how could you do this to me!" Sirius yelled. "And you, Vixen, how could you do this to me?"
My face blushed red, as did James, and I nervously bit my lip before looking up at my two best friends. Remus had a look of shock on his face, with a hint of proudness. On the other hand, Sirius was outraged and on the verge of a tantrum.
"You stole my first kiss, and now you're snogging my mate!" Sirius exclaimed, pointing at me.
James stuttered, "It was just a dare."
"The dare was a kiss," Jolie laughed, "Not to snog the living daylights out of each other."
At this point, the alcohol was in full effect. The room was blurring around me and my words were completely slurred.
Eh, who cares?
Sirius glared at James. He had Remus's jumper on, which I hadn't noticed before. They were gone for quite a bit.
"I thought what we had was special." Sirius pouted as he wedged his way in between James and me. "You two, need to be separated."
James coughed, "I'm pretty sure it's my turn."
The game went on for about another hour until people started heading off to bed, or leaving with their partners to do Merlin knows what.
Only the Marauders and I were left in the common room.
I had my head in Remus's lap and was on the verge of blacking out. James and Sirius were having a slurred conversation about the most random shit.
"Moony?" I asked looking up at Remus.
His honey eyes met mine, "Yes, Vixen?"
"You and Padfoot were gone quite a while."
His face blushed red and he looked up to see if James heard. "Shhh, I'll tell you in the morning."
I laughed, "You better. Can you bring me to bed?"
"I can't get to your dormitory, but you can sleep in my bed. I'll sleep on the floor."
"Thank you, Remus."
Remus wrangled James and Sirius, before picking me up and carrying me up to their dorm.
James and Sirius were stumbling up the stairs, running into the walls, and occasionally muttered swear words under their breath.
Sirius opened the door and kicked up his shoes before flinging himself onto his bed. James followed suit, crawling into his own bed.
The boy's roommate, Frank Longbottom, was already fast asleep. However, their fifth roommate, a boy named Adrian Tonks, was nowhere to be seen.
Remus pulled back his covers before setting me into his bed. He pulled the covers up over me and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
"Sleep well, Daph."
I smiled sleepily, "Bonsoir."
My eyes felt heavy and were beginning to close as I saw Sirius giving Remus a kiss before pulling him into his bed.
Well, that's new.
As soon as my eyes shut, I fell into a deep, deep sleep.
