twenty two

Late March

The rest of February and most of March flew by. Spring was in the air, as well as new romances.

James and I are as happy as ever, Remus and Sirius are like an old married couple, and surprisingly, Lily and Marlene began dating at the end of February. This shocked everyone, but they were very happy together.

"Wait, so you never even liked men?" James asked, his eyes wide.

Lily laughed at him, "I swing both ways, idiot!"

Marlene and Lily were happy, Jolie was still bouncing from guy to guy, but she was happy, and I was happy.

Everything was going well.

At the moment the owls came flying into the Great Hall to deliver the morning post. I returned my attention my plate, my parents never send me anything, they never write, and began to cut my pancake.

An owl was hovering above my shoulder, pecking at my hair until I looked at it.

"What the fuck-," I looked at the snowy owl. "Oh, Khione."

James held his finger out of Khione to perch herself on as he stroked her head. "Whose owl?"

I detached the letter tied to her leg, "She's my parents', her names Khione."

"After the Greek goddess of snow?" Remus asked as he set his coffee mug back onto the table.

"Snowy owl, goddess of snow, ironic isn't it?" I laughed as I stared at the letter in my hand.

My parents never write. My dad is too busy with his work for the Ministry, especially now because of the war, and my mum barely acknowledges me when I'm home, so it makes sense that she never writes to me.

I fiddled with the letter in my hands, knowing that James still had his eyes on me.

The wax seal unstuck itself as I peeled open the cream-colored envelope and took out the thick parchment letter.

James grabbed my hand reassuringly, and I gave him a small smile as I began to read the letter.

Daphne,

I hope all is well! Your father and I saw that you're dating that Potter boy in the Daily Prophet, congratulations on that.

Now, I know it's last-minute but your father and I were hoping that you and your friends would join us for the Easter holidays. James, Remus, Sirius, and Jolie are more than welcome anytime.

Hope you hear from you by the end of the week.

Love,
Mum

I slapped the letter on the table and dropped my head into my hands.

"What a bitch." I muttered.

James wrapped his arm around my shoulders, "What's wrong love?"

"My mum wants me-, well us," I point to the four of us, "To come home for Easter holiday."

Sirius dropped his fork onto his plate. "Really? Mums don't like me."

"My mum loves you, Padfoot." James assured.

I turned to James, "My parents want to meet you."

"Joseph and Lucille have already met me." James replied as he took a bite out of his bacon.

I rolled my eyes, "As my boyfriend. Plus, they barely know you."

"I will happily meet your parents, I'll just write to my mum that we won't be going home for the holiday."

I dropped my head to my hands again, "No, you were supposed to give me a reason not to go home. I don't want to."

James smirked at me, "Love, I want to get to know your parents and your family. It's only a week."

I groaned, "Fine. Padfoot and Moony, are you coming as well?"

"No, I want you two to get the chance to play house." Sirius laughed.

Remus grinned, "What Sirius means is that we would love to enjoy an empty common room and dormitory, and this is more of a couples thing."

"You better write me every day, Padfoot!" James demanded as he waved his fork at Sirius.

"Don't worry, I will."

I reread the letter.

If my parents knew about James and me, why did they take so damn long to even acknowledge it, or at the bare minimum acknowledge me? I don't think they mean to do it, but it still hurts. I get that they're busy, but they're never too busy to write Beatrice or Henry.

"I'll be right back." I announced as I stood up from the Gryffindor table and pressed a kiss on James' cheek.

I smoothed out my skirt as I walked across the Great Hall to the Slytherin table, quickly spotting Henry and Bea. Their blonde hair stuck out in the sea of black robes, and I quickly made my way over to them.

Henry, who was engrossed in a concert with his friend, looked up at me when he saw my arrival. He nudged Beatrice, who was sitting across from him, and she turned and smiled at me.

Henry's friend gave me a small wave, "Hello, I'm Max-"

"What's up, Daphne?" Beatrice asked, quickly cutting off Max.

I smiled, "Are you going home for Easter?"

"Yeah," Henry replied, "You're going to the Potter's?"

"No actually-, mum and dad want to meet James, so we're coming home. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be just James and me."

Max spoke up again, "I know you're with Potter, but if you ever-"

"Max-, shut up!" Beatrice sneered before returning to her smiling self.

I gave a fake smile to Max, "You're fourteen, James is seventeen, I'm almost seventeen-"

"Age doesn't mat-"

"And those are just my short list of reasons why not." I finished, making Henry and Beatrice laugh at their friend, who was now red in the face.

Beatrice smiled, "Haven't mum and dad already met James?"

"Yes-, but barely."

"Not since they started shagging." Henry chuckled.

I glared at him, "I am going to pretend like my fourteen-year-old brother didn't just try to talk to me about shagging-, anyways, I just wanted to let you both know that James and I are coming home for Easter."

Henry saluted me, "Off you go back to the lions."

I rolled my eyes, "Have fun with the snakes, little brother."

"See you soon then," Beatrice smiled, "Oh-, and your room is still the same. Just thought you'd like to know since you haven't been home since summer."

"Thanks, Bea."

I said goodbye to my younger siblings and shot daggers at Max once last time before returning to my spot at the Gryffindor table.

"How'd it go?" James asked as I sat down beside him.

I took a sip of my coffee, "Bea's excited, and Henry just tried to talk to me about shagging."

"Little man's getting some-"

"Shut up, Sirius."

Remus stifled a laugh as Sirius frowned at me and huffed in annoyance.

"He thinks that James and I are shagging." I announced.

James kissed me on the cheek, "Well, love, we are."

"I'm aware, darling." I replied sarcastically.

"As much as I would love to watch this go on all day," Remus teased, "Class starts soon."

Sirius groaned, "Stop being a Prefect."

"Darling, I'm barely a Prefect, and how I am still amazes me."

I grabbed my book bag from the floor and slung it over my shoulder, taking James' hand as we walked out of the Great Hall on our way to Charms.

• • • • •

The remaining week of classes before Easter break went by way too fast, and the dread of going home was creeping up on me.

I tried to use the Full Moon on Sunday as an excuse not to go home, but Sirius claimed that he had it covered, and James was actually excited to meet my parents. Fucking weirdo.

I just can't understand why anyone would want to meet my parents. My dad, Joseph, is never home, he's probably cheating on mum, and he always puts work over his kids. My mum, Lucille, is a bit of a lunatic, day drinks, and uses shopping as a coping mechanism for her marriage.

James' parents, on the other way, are the two sweetest people that I've ever meet. They took in Sirius, they always have their house open for visitors, they love James with all of their hearts, and they actually know how to be parents.

Of course, I love my parents, but I'm not sure that they feel the same way about me.

I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at my packed trunk by the door, and was racking my brain to think of any more excuses not to go.

At that moment, the door burst open as James Potter, cheery as ever, walked into my dormitory with a smile on his face and his trunk in his hands.

"Ready, love?"

I groaned, "I don't know, I feel sick. I don't want to infect anyone-"

"Get your cute arse out of bed before I make you."

"That's kinky." I smirked.

James blushed slightly, "That was the point-, but you need to get up so we don't miss the train."

"Let's miss the train then," I said. "The dorm is empty-"

"You can't seduce me as an attempt to not go home." James claimed.

I sighed in defeat and got up from my bed, grabbing my spring coat as James grabbed my trunk and we walked out of the dormitory.

"How did you even get up here?" I asked as we reached the staircase.

James grinned, "I can't reveal all of my secrets just yet."

We walked through Hogwarts, which was beginning to clear out as students made their way to the platform in Hogsmeade.

Every step that I took brought me closer to the Hogwarts Express, and every step made me want to scream.

James and I reached the platform, and he began to get onto the train until he noticed that I stopped.

"Your parents can't be that bad-, I've met them. They seem nice."

He grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the train behind him.

"You've introduced yourself to them, you've said various 'hello's' throughout the years, but you haven't actually met them."

James laughed as he slid open the door to an empty compartment, "Whatever you say, love."

He put our two trunks away and took a seat next to me on the cushioned bench.

I looked out the door window and watched as students boarded the train, looking for their friends and empty compartments.

Getting an idea, I stood up abruptly and closed the blinds, looking anyone's view into our compartment, before locking the door and sitting down next to James.

He gave me a look, "Really? Right now?"

I smirked, "Sure, since you didn't want to this morning because catching the train was more important."

James grinned, "Bloody hell, I love you."

I pulled James into a kiss and he pulled me onto his lap.

His lips moved aggressively against mine as I gripped onto his shirt, pulling him closer to me.

James slid his hand up my dress, gripping my thigh as his lips trailed down my neck.

"As much," Kiss, "As I would like," Kiss, "To mark up this pretty little neck of yours," James smiled, bringing his lips to mine again, "I can't."

I gently bit his lip as he pulled away from the kiss, making him moan softly.

"Now are you going to fuck me, or what?" I teased, my voice a whisper.

James smirked at me in response as he slid his hand further up my dress and pushed aside my panties. "Is this okay?"

I kissed him, "Yes, it is."

Things progressed and before I knew it, James' pants were off and my dress was pulled up as I rode James Potter in a compartment of the Hogwarts Express.

Afterward, James was smiling beside me as he pulled his pants back on.

We spent the rest of the train ride talking, and time flew by quickly as we pulled into Kings Cross Station, in London.

James grabbed both of our trunks, and I unlocked the compartment door, smoothing down my hair one last time as we stepped out of the compartment.

There was no escaping it now.

I stepped off the train, and looked around, quickly spotting my parents, along with Henry and Beatrice. The four of them were standing on the platform, chatting away, but my mum spotted me and smiled.

James walked alongside me as we walked over to my family, my mum quickly taking me into her arms as she hugged me tightly.

That was out of character.

My dad hugged me next, keeping it quick, before turning his attention to James.

He set his trunk down, and extended his hand to my father, "James Potter, sir."

My dad shook his hand, "Oh please James, call me Joseph."

James smiled quickly but was quickly pulled into a hug by my mum.

What the fuck.

When she finally released him, she looked him up and down, "Oh dear, you're all grown up now."

James smiled, "It's a pleasure to see you again, Lucille."

Henry and Beatrice, looked extremely bored, and James introduced himself to my parents, and I was finally able to breathe now.

They liked him.

"Well, let's go home, shall we?" My dad asked as grabbed onto Beatrice's hand.

My mum grabbed Henry's.

I grabbed James', perks of being seventeen now, and we apparated to the house.
