forty three

When I reached the foyer, I unlinked my arm from Remus's and he kissed me on the cheek before joining the rest of the groomsmen outside.

My dad was waiting for me, and he smiled widely once he saw me.

"I can't believe that my oldest daughter is getting married," He said, "You look gorgeous."

I hugged my dad, "Thanks, Dad."

"Having any doubts."

I shook my head, "None, which is weird because people always say that they have doubts before their wedding, but I have none at all."

"That's how you know you picked the right one."

The officiant, James, and the rest of the boys were already at the altar and were soon followed by Euphemia and Fleamont, then my mother, Lucille.

Lily squeezed my hand, "See you at the altar."

I watched as the bridesmaids walked down the aisle, bouquets in hand, and took their places on the side of the altar.

My dad held out his arm, and I linked mine through his. He smiled at me, "Let's go get you married."

When we stepped out of the house and onto the aisle, instead of behind hit with the cool winter air, the temperature remained the same as it was inside the manor.

A warming spell, cast by Euphemia Potter.

James' hazel eyes widened as he saw me, and he grinned widely.

I couldn't help but smile back just as widely at him. This was our day.

When I reached the altar, my dad kissed me on the cheek before helping me up onto the low, wooden platform serving as an altar. There was an archway behind us, covered in flowers that matched all of the bouquets.

I handed my bouquet to Jolie and took James' hands in mine.

"You look beautiful." James whispered as the guests sat back down.

I smiled, "And you look very handsome."

James grinned back at me.

The wedding officiant spoke, "We are gathered here today to celebrate the union of two faithful souls, James Potter, and Daphne Beaufort."

James' squeezed my hand reassuringly, never taking his eyes off me as the officiant spoke.

"All of us need and desire love. Some of us spend our whole lives looking for love, but James and Daphne are some of the lucky few who have found the person that they want to commit their life to so young." The officiant spoke, smiling at James and me. "Marriage is perhaps the greatest adventure that two souls can go on in their lives. It can be challenging at times, but can be made up for in the love that they feel for one another."

I heard a sniffle from the crowd and looked to see Euphemia Potter dabbing her eyes with Fleamont's hanker chief.

"You may state your vows."

James smiled, "We have known each other since we were eleven, and have been best friends ever since we met. However, overall of the time that we spent together I realized that I didn't want to be just friends, I wanted to be your husband. Even from the first month that we dated, I knew that the end goal was to marry you and to have a future with you. Now that I'm standing here, on this altar, holding your hands, all I can think is that this is long overdue. Some people might say that we're too young, but I say that we have loved each other long enough to have to wait another day to be married. Daphne Jane Beaufort, I love you, and I will keep on loving you until the very end."

My heart was pounding in my chest as I soaked up every word that just came out of James' mouth.

I cleared my throat and held his hands tighter.

"James Fleamont Potter," I began, "I think a part of me has always known that it was going to be you and me. Even though it took us a while to realize, a part of me always knew that I could never give up on you, because you were more than just a friend. You were the man that I wanted to marry, and now that it's happening, I have no doubts whatsoever. We can't choose our fate, but we can choose who we want to be with, and I will keep choosing you over and over. You and I are meant to be, and I believe that our souls will keep on finding each other in every single lifetime because even though we cannot choose fate, it knows that we are supposed to be together. I love you James, and I will keep on loving you until the very end."

Several different sniffles were coming from the crowd by the time James and I finished our vows.

"Beautifully spoken," The officiant announced, "It is time for the rings."

Sirius handed James the ring box, complete with my gold engagement ring with an added band, and James' gold wedding band. The silver band was pretty, but it was never an option, and gold seemed more fitting for James.

"Do you, James Fleamont Potter, take Daphne Jane Beaufort to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold, in sickness, and in health, from this day forward, for as long as you both shall live?"

I slipped the wedding band on James' finger.

"I do."

He was smiling widely at me as he took my ring from the velvet box.

"Do you, Daphne Jane Beaufort, take James Fleamont Potter to be your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold, in sickness, and in health, from this day forward, for as long as you both shall live?"

I smiled up at James, "I do."

"And now, by the power vested in me by the Ministry of Magic, it is my honor to pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride."

James and I were both grinning widely as I cupped his face with my hands and pulled him in for a kiss. His hands rested on my waist as we kissed, the guests erupting into cheers.

When we parted from the kiss, we were both grinning just as widely as we were before the kiss.

James lifted me into his arms and carried me into the manor as people cheered.

The rarely used ballroom of the Potter manor was quickly filled with our friends and family as the wedding reception began.

The turn tables' sound had been amplified, and music was playing softly throughout the room as people filed in and congratulated James and me.

"Do you think we could sneak away without anyone noticing?" I whispered to James as there was a break in people talking to us.

James smirked, "They would definitely notice, but I don't care."

"I think it's considered rude though." I sighed.

"Good thing we can apparate to our honeymoon tonight."

I grinned at my husband, "Smart thinking."

After what seemed like the longest time, everyone was finally seated, and the food and drinks were brought out to be served.

It was weird sitting at a table where everyone was watching me and the rest of our close friends.

There was a clinking sound as Sirius stood up from beside James', tapping his knife on his champagne flute.

"Oh no." James whispered.

I dropped my head to my hand, "This is either going to be very good, or catastrophic."

Sirius cleared his throat as the room fell silent. He had already loosened his tie and was grinning widely as everyone turned their attention to him.

"For those of you who somehow don't know me," He began, "I'm Sirius Black, James's best man."

Sirius grinned at James.

"I'm proud to say that I have known both James and Daphne since we were all eleven. James has always been a very confident guy, and I didn't think he had any fears until he paced around our dormitory trying to figure out where to take Daphne on their first date. I've always known that James is one of the best kind of people that there are, but it wasn't until he and Daphne got together that he became the best version of himself. As for Daphne," Sirius winked at me, "She is the person who came in and knocked the James Potter right on his arse."

Everyone laughed as Sirius continued.

"Daphne is truly one of the best people I've ever met, and she managed to knock the cockiness out of James just by batting her eyes lashes."

That's true.

"I am so happy for the two of you, I love you both dearly, and I wish you the best to come." Sirius raised his glass, "To the bride and groom."

"To the bride and groom."

James hugged Sirius as he took his seat next to him, and Remus looked relieved that his boyfriend hadn't said anything stupid.

There was another clinking of glass, and the room silenced yet again as Jolie stood up.

My eyes widened as she smirked.

"Don't worry, I won't embarrass you." Jolie whispered to me.

She smiled, "Let me begin by saying that I am honor to give a toast to my best friend of almost eight years, Daphne. When she told me that she and James started dating, I had no doubts that they would last, and knew that every day of their relationship got them closer to where they are today."

I smiled at my best friend as she cleared her throat.

"Most of the time, when someone falls in love they lose touch with their friends," Jolie tucked her hair behind her ear, "But that was not the case, because not only did it bring me closer to Daphne, I gained another built-in best friend, James. You two are meant to be together, and I love you both." She raised her glass, "Now, let's raise a glass to Daphne and James."

"To Daphne and James."

I hugged Jolie tightly as she sat back down beside me, "That was beautiful."

"It was between that and an embarrassing story from seventh year." Jolie joked as she picked up her fork and began to eat.

The room fell somewhat quiet as everyone began to dig into their food but soon ramped back up as the plates were cleared away and the music got louder.

After James and I cut the vanilla cake, it was time for our first dance.

The soft sound of the piano filled the room as James and I made our way to the dance floor.

It's a little bit funny
This feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money, but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live

My arms were wrapped around James' neck, and he held me tightly around the waist as we swayed to the music.

"It's weird that people are watching us dance." I muttered as I stared into James's amber eyes.

James laughed softly and kissed me on the cheek. "It's a bit odd, but it doesn't matter because you're the one that I'm dancing with.

And you can tell everybody
This is your song
It may be quite simple, but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
That I put down in the words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I pulled James' body closer to mine, "I can't believe that I can finally call you my husband."

James' hands were warm against the silky, white fabric of my dress.

"I have the coolest wife ever," James stated, "And I can't wait to get away with you for two weeks."

I smirked, "You're going to love what I have packed."

James raised his eyebrows at me, "Do tell."

"If I did," I leaned in and whispered in James's ear, "Then I wouldn't get to see your reaction."

James gulped and looked at the clock on the wall. "Well, only two and half hours before we can get out of here."

I rolled my eyes, "Don't get ahead of yourself, Potter."

James kissed me softly and mumbled against my lips, "I could say the exact same thing to you."
