It can't be. The words that read across the top of the page and the giant title that screams at you in bold. It's so loud you almost burst into tears there and then.
EVICTION NOTICE
Fuck my life, you curse yourself. You knew this day was going to come one way or the other. You just never knew it was going to be this soon.
With your boss occupying you with extra shifts at the cafe, your numerous assignments breathing down your back plus your non-existent social life, how the hell were you supposed to remember that your landlord was also one of the many people who were trying to chase you down?
Dear Ms. Y/N,
Shit, that's your name.
You are hereby being notified to vacate the premises of the location stated above.
And that's your fucking address too. Flat and everything.
It doesn't help you any better when you notice the date you have evacuate by. Eyes bulging out of your eyes, you finally exclaim. "That's today!"
The expected shout from the other side of the wall of your apartment follows straight after. "Hey, keep it down!"
You turn around to face the wall, fuming and with your hands grinded into tight fists, ready to punch through the paper thin walls. Way too heated to be shouted at, you're so close to shouting back at your neighbour to shut the fuck up. It's something you've only ever dreamed of. But thinking better of it, you release your fists and let go of the wrathful breath you've been holding in.
Hands trembling, the paper starts to shake too much for you to read it anymore. So you chuck it away, freeing your hand so that you can pull your phone out of your pocket. Once you're facing your contact list on the screen, your thumb freezes over your parents number.
Thinking logically, they would be the last people you should call. The most they'll do is lecture you for an hour but instead of falling asleep like you do in your universities lectures, you would just end up crying and feel worse about yourself.
Swallowing, you scroll through your contacts. None of the words appear visible anymore as your eyes finally give in to the tears that are now clouding your vision, your emotions stopping you from getting anything done.
This had been the final straw for you. It's been weeks of endless work and no progress. At this point, all you really want is fresh air.

The day hadn't been any better for Baekhyun either. Walking down the sidewalk of Mapo Bridge in Seoul, the cars zoomed past him without a care speedily. In moments like this, he did feel the most alone. When multiple people were near him, but none of them stopped to see his pain. Just a single question to ask about how his day was. Even then, he probably wouldn't tell them the truth.
Damn. This bridge is depressing, he thought to himself. And yet he walked down it everyday.
Blowing out his breath, he watches the cloud of smoke escape his lips before it dissipates into the cold wind. He comes to a stop, facing the Han river while he shoves his hands deeper into his long coat.
The blanket of black water that he stares at appears so dark in the freezing night. His eyes shift up to the sky instead and a smile graces his lips as he finds the luminous stars amusing. They're beautiful, undeniably beautiful. He was thankful for that about him, in the hardest times, he would still remind himself to be grateful for the tiniest things.
His eyelids fall shut gracefully and he barely takes notice of the loud cars speeding behind him. It's just him and the river...and the sudden singing he catches off the tip of his ear. He doesn't open his eyes at first, the music hard to recognize and not as audible as he wants it to be. It's only when whoever's singing starts to hit beautiful notes, the melody in the voice unmissable, that he does open his eyes.
Turning his head, he looks to his right, finding someone along the bridge sitting on the rail. Your legs dangle while she sings, eyes open and observing the endless black waters while you sing away, voice leaving as it disappears into the icy air.
As beautiful as the song sounds, a frown crosses his face. It doesn't take him long to figure out why you're on this bridge, in the middle of the night with one miniature slip of your balance and you'll be plummeting into the fearful waters below.
The song sounded so beautiful, but now watching you, he realises the tragicness in your voice as you sing it. He gulps gently, not taking his eyes off you for a second. He doesn't know this song, he doesn't know when it comes to an end. Therefore he doesn't know how much time he has to help you.
Taking cautious steps, he walks closer towards you, trying to be as quiet and casual as possible. The closer he gets the clearer your expression becomes and he's surprised to see a lack of gushing tears.
•
Gazing out, your eyes try to find meaning in the darkness ahead of you. It was a habit for you to come out here, breathe in a little fresh air, clear your mind. With this amount of cold wind gusting at you, it's shocking you can't feel it. You're already so cold on the inside.
When you look up you surprisingly feel a sprinkle of comfort, the stars that were looking down on you were few. It made you wonder if there was anything above them.
"God?" You whisper and then immediately feel like an idiot. Here you were in the freezing cold when really you should be finding a solution to the big fat problem weighing on your shoulders, and the first thing you do is start talking to a God you don't believe in.
Clearing your throat, you whisper. "Hey, um, we've never talked much or at all more like. But by any chance can you just work a miracle or something in my life or like ... send an angel to save me?"
The last bit surprised you too, you didn't believe in angels either but there you were, seeking one.
A few seconds of silence and your head sinks before glaring up at the sky "Right, thanks a fucking bunch but the next time I-"
"That was a beautiful song."
The calm voice startles you.
Too lost in your own world, your head whips around, eyes wide and shocked as you jolt, almost losing your grip.
"Whoa, someone's jumpy tonight." The voice belongs to a man standing near you. He chuckled with ease, it sounded so beautiful on a sad night like this. A soft smile spreads across his face that almost brings a smile to your own.
"The song that you were singing, it was beautiful."
No words leave your mouth, you just stare at him with widely entranced eyes, unable to comprehend how extraordinary he is.
It was so unearthly. Like such beauty couldn't just be roaming around in a place like this. Like he was an...angel.
"You're beautiful." You whisper without thinking. Pressing your lips together, your eyes grow wider.
Thankfully, he doesn't hear you. A gentle furrow in his eyebrows. "Pardon?"
You shake your head and then realize something else. If this guy heard you song that means he definitely heard you talking to yourself and the sky like a lunatic.
This guy probably thinks I'm crazy
The thing you couldn't even understand was why he was talking to you. You're pretty sure if it was any other stranger you probably would have told them to fuck off. But this man, why did he seem so entrancing?
Like an idiot, you forget that you still haven't said anything. As if he's tied your tongue with his own hands, you can't think of anything to say.
He smiles a little, stepping closer towards you as he stands next to you, leaning against the railing that he rests his arms on. Sighing, he looks up at the sky, "The night's beautiful as well."
Your eyes follow his. Gazing up into the darkness, you both watch the glowing dots of light. Usually, you can never see the stars living in a city as chaotic as this one. But there they are as if they always have been.
"They really are.", you say into the cold air, amazed by the beauty of the gleaming night sky.
It's like you've forgotten how beautiful this world can be. It brings an adoring smile to your face. You didn't think you were going to be able to smile on a day like this.
When you look down again, the man's eyes are set on you. He's staring at you with a serious look, as if worried. There's something so intimidating and powerful in his eyes that it makes you lean back a little, looking back at him wide eyes and confused.
Noticing your body language, his eyes soften immediately. "Sorry, I don't mean to stare. I'm just curious."
"Curious?", you question, even more muddled.
"Uh,", he glances out at the waters then back at you again, "The song. That you were singing. I was wondering why it's so sad."
"Oh,", you look down, reminded of all the struggles you're facing in your life right now, "I don't know. I just kind of sang from the heart, whatever's on my mind really."
His eyebrows raise at that, "You mean you came up with the song on the spot?"
You nod silently, still not looking at him.
"Magical.", he softly says like a tender whisper.
Looking up, you say, "Huh?"
You're confused again and it must be evident on your face because a wide crawls through his face, lifting his cheeks as a sweet laugh escapes his doll like lips.
"I think you're magical.", he says, his smile dripped in honey.
The words stun you, making you be able to do nothing but blink back at him in silence. No one's ever said something so nice to you. Calling you magical? It's a compliment you never think you'd hear in your lifetime.
Silence passes through and you look away, realizing how awkward you must look staring at him for so long. "U-uh,", you laugh humorlessly, "-I'm not entirely sure what you mean."
He continues to smile but it saddens slightly because he's upset that you can't see the magic that he sees in you. "I mean, it's pretty fucking amazing that you can be able to create pieces of art through your voice off your own emotions. It says something."
Hardening your jaw, you swallow and stare into the deep and dark waters. You sullenly shake your head, "It says nothing."
His smile fades like the stars as burdening clouds start to overwhelm the night sky, creeping through and slowly stealing away the moonlight too. The magic has disappeared with your words.
"I don't think you mean that-"
"Look," you cut him off, looking him dead in the eye. You try to glare at him but his heavenly glow is so pure that you can barely pull it off. "Honestly, I have no idea who you are or why you're talking to me right now. But you don't know anything about me so please refrain from thinking you do."
You would've been way ruder but you surprisingly are unable to. Not when he's looking at you like that. You can't utter one syllable of any swear word at an angel that stares at you like that.
By now, you expect him to flip you off and walk away, to say something rude back or just walk away. But he doesn't. The kindness and softness in his eyes remain. The longer you stare, the more you realise you don't need the stars in the sky anymore because they are right there in his eyes.
Breaking away from his spell, you scoff and look down into icy waters again. "Screw this."
Alarmed, his eyes shoot wide with fear as you start to move and he acts on instinct as fast he can. "No, wait!"
He practically throws his body on yours, wrapping his arms around hastily and strongly so that your body is locked in his hold. You yelp out of surprise, shocked that a stranger is touching you like this so easily. Pulling on your body, you're dragged off the railing of the bridge forcefully, feet flying in the air as you descend backwards and crash into the pavement.
Except you don't feel the painful impact of the cement. Your body only collides with the sweet strangers and you both land with jolt. Bodies entwined on the cold ground, you lift your head frantically only to find your face an inch away from his.
A small gasp gets stuck in your throat as you stare down at him. His face is so close. So close that all your senses are overwhelmed by his alluring beauty. Eyes staring into yours, he watches you, features recovering from a grimace after the harsh landing. You can feel his hot breath on your cold skin and his heart beating against yours.
All worry dissipates as he stares at you and he lets his head fall back down again, looking away from you.
And then he just starts laughing.
