Chapter 1: Training, Frustrations, and Dreams
Your POV:
I woke up with a start as the castle alarms went off. I looked around where I was to see an all-white room that had three doors that each had their own purpose. So it really happened, I thought as I jumped out of my twin sized bed. I suddenly heard Allura's voice over the comms saying that the Galra were attacking. So this is what it's going to be like being part of Team Voltron. I'll have to wake up early, train at least once a day, and always be ready to help someone under attack, even if that meant protecting ourselves. I quickly put my shoes on and got my jacket from the place it was hanging from on the wall. I also grabbed my staff. As I was exiting my room, I saw Keith and Hunk also making their ways to the Castle's main deck. I followed them.
When I got there, the first thing I saw was Coran on the floor with his hand on his face, shouting about Allura being decapitated or something like that. I walked over to where everyone else was and stood beside Keith with my arms crossed. I looked around and everyone was here except for Lance. Although it doesn't really surprise me, he has a whole skincare routine that he has to do when he wakes up before he goes out anywhere. He told me that one time while he slept over at my house. He doesn't even let anyone see him in the morning. It's crazy. But somehow, I became an exception. So one time at a sleepover-- not the one I was just talking about-- we both did a little skincare thing that Lance had been doing for a long time. My skin was clear as fuck, completely the truth, I swear.
The only thing keeping me from remembering more memories was Allura getting Coran's attention and telling him that we were all here. Expect Lance of course.
"Well, I am glad to see you here," Allura said smiling, but soon her smile turned into a frown, "But it's simply unacceptable that only Shiro is in his full armor. [Name] has her weapon. Keith, Pidge, Hunk, where are your bayards? "-- Allura looked around--"And where is Lance?"
At that exact moment-- I'm half convinced that he waited for someone to say his name-- Lance entered the room still wearing his pajamas and had a shining, glowing face. "Oh hello, everyone, what did I miss?" He should have expected for Allura to yell at him for being late. But Lance acted like nothing was wrong. Sadly, I knew his expressions better than anyone. Behind all of the smiles and cocky grins, I knew something was wrong. I just haven't brought it up.
After Allura gave everyone the pep talk, she told everyone that they needed to head to their hangars to practice forming Voltron and to strengthen their bonds with each other as much as their lions.
As they exited the room, I walked up to Allura. "Is there anything that you need to be done? I can try my best to help out with anything," I said.
"Hmm. I don't think that there's anything to help with currently. For now, you have some downtime," Allura responded. "Do whatever you please."
"Thanks," I said, trying not to sound disappointed. I really wanted something to do to make myself seem useful. As I was walking out of the room, I remembered that there was a training deck. It was really weird how much I enjoyed to work out. I've just always been persistent with these things.
So I headed to the training room, hoping I was actually heading the right way. When I got there, I was puzzled as to how to get started. But I eventually figured it out after a few tries. I told the room to start the training level one. Soon after, an Altean robot came out of a hole from the ceiling. As soon as it hit the ground, I charged at me, a sword in hand.
I dodged the blade with a swift dive to the left. I rolled up and got back on my feet, just in time to see a blade in my right peripheral. Right away, I put my staff in front of me to block the robot from striking me. I used its strength against it as I pushed against the blade, making it stumble backward. As soon as I saw the opportunity, I spun around, twirling the staff to gain momentum, and hit the robot as hard as I could. I knew I won as soon as the lights on the machine turn off. A hole appeared in the floor to gather the robot.
Starting training level 2. The room said. As if on queue, another robot appeared out of the ceiling, this time, with a staff.
"Let's kill this son of a bitch," I said to myself as I charged.
I had gotten through five training levels. I was proud of myself, to say the least. The team had walked in as I was in the middle of the most recent. The team walked in right as I got hit in the side and thrown across the room. Luckily, within five minutes I was able to knock that fucker out. The look on Keith's face was completely worth it as I walked out of the room.
After training, I head back to my room to clean up and take a shower. When I got there, I saw Allura sitting on my bed. When she saw that I entered the room, she stood up.
"Princess," I greeted her.
"[Name], I was wondering if you could come with me, there's something that I think you could use," She said, gesturing for me to follow her. I was about to put my staff down but Allura told me to bring it along. I followed her as we head back into the training deck. When we got there, I saw Lance in the middle of the room yelling at Keith, who was in a room above Lance. As I watched the two angry teens yell at each other like an old married couple.
"THAT'S IT, WE'RE SWITCHING NOW BEFORE YOU GIVE ME MORE OF YOUR BULLSHIT DIRECTIONS!" Lance yelled in anger right after he got zapped. The expression on his face was priceless as he gave a frown that I remember someone from a show called Supernatural made when he lost his shoe. {A/N: I'm sorry, that was such an iconic episode}
I tried to stifle my laughter, but unfortunately, I failed. I burst out laughing, causing Lance to look over in my direction. I laughed, even more, when I saw Lance's pitiful face. I was bent over, my hands on my knees to prevent me from falling down.
"Oh, shut up," Lance said as the invisible maze walls shut down.
I continued to follow Allura, making us go to the room where Keith was. As Keith and Lance switched positions, Allura went to go get something. When she came back, it was with a small bracelet in her hand. She gave it to me to put it on. When I did, she spoke.
"This is a bracelet that's connected to your staff. It also has a magnetic-like feature that allows you to get your weapon to come to you with a command. It also has a way to look communicate with the paladins on the battlefield," She said as she showed me the different abilities and how to activate them.
With my newfound information, I went back to my room, allowing myself to clean up.
We were all in the dining room, resting. We had all been training today and we were all exhausted. Coran had gone to make us a "paladin dinner" while Pidge was off with Allura, helping heal the Galra's prisoners. Lance and I were talking while we waited. I looked around the room for Keith, only to find him talking with Shiro.
"I was so upset with Keith! Like, he purposely made me walk into that wall!" Lance complained as he flung his arms around to add emphasis.
"Woah, settle down there. I can feel your sexual frustration from here," I joked. I didn't know he would actually affect him though, because two seconds later, he was hugging my tiny figure to hide his blushing face.
"Is it really that obvious?" Lance half-whispered-half-yelled into my ear.
I pushed him away but kept him at an arm's length. I looked at him straight in the eyes as I spoke my next few words.
"Wait, WHAT?!" I shouted so loud that Keith and Shiro looked over at us. "I didn't know! I was just joking with you!" I said quieter.
He looked down at me with the most pathetic, but classic Lance "I'm good with the ladies but not the men" McClain look.
"Huh," I said just as Coran walked through the door and set the food down onto the table. Lance and I temporarily forgot our earlier conversation and joined Keith as we migrated towards the food Coran put down. But we soon recoiled as we smelt the foul stench of it. Hunk walked it and saw the abomination. He froze in shock at the horror of it.
"What the hell is this?" We all three shouted as we held our noses to block the smell.
"It's a paladin lunch! The Paladins of Old had it all the time!" Coran defended.
Hunk broke out of his phase. "Nope. No no no no no. I need to show you a real paladin lunch," He said as he exited the room and went to the kitchen. Meanwhile, Coran was trying to airplane feed Shiro the food.
I walked back over to Lance. "We'll continue our conversation later," I told him as I watched his face turn to a deep red. I slowly gave Keith a small side glance, only to find he was staring at us with curiosity.
After a little bit, Hunk came back with food that looked way better and he set it down on the table next to Coran's food. Right away, we dug in. The food tasted so much better than what I assumed Coran's food tasted like. While we were midway in stuffing our faces, Allura walked in.
"Coran, I'm glad they're enjoying your paladin lunch!" Allura exclaimed happily.
Coran folded his arms and turned around. "I don't want to talk about it,"
After we finished eating, we all separated to go to our rooms. When I got there, I lied down on my bed, resting. I stared up at my ceiling, thinking about it all. Being a kid, I had always wanted to be part of something big. In fact, one of my fears was living a boring, regular life. So, in a way, I'd been blessed. I mean, of course, I missed Earth. I just didn't have any family there. Of course, I had my mother, but she disappeared when I was twelve. She could be dead for all I know. I never even met my dad. Mom, or should I say, Bela, never really talked about him. Never even mentioned his name.
With all of the thoughts and memories going through my head, I started to get tired. I drifted farther and farther into darkness until I eventually fell asleep.
I slowly opened my eyes to find I was in lying in a black room. Getting up, I looked down to see I was wearing a weird black suit. I looked up and all around me until my eyes caught a weird purple glowing light. It was down a long and narrow tunnel. I walked towards the light. Walking turning into jogging. Jogging turning into running. Running turning into sprinting. But no matter how hard or fast I ran, the light seemed to be getting farther and farther away.
All of the sudden, I'm falling. Falling down a long hole. Gaining more velocity as I fell farther and farther down the hole. As I fall farther and farther, I saw a small trickle of light. This time, the light was blue. It got bigger and bigger as I lost more altitude. Eventually, the light was completely covering me. It got so bright I had to shield my eyes from it to prevent it from blinding me.
Then, it was all dark. I opened my eyes to see nothing but the dark room again. I looked around for the purple light, only to find nothing. The room was completely empty. No tunnel, no hole, no nothing. Then, I saw someone. They didn't have a face, but they seemed oddly familiar.
I woke up with a jolt. I heard Allura's voice over the comms asking me to head to the kitchen as soon as I could. My thoughts were going crazy as I got up and made my way to the kitchen to see what Allura needed me for.
I've always had weird dreams. I've had dreams of meeting my biological father. Having my mother come back. Having the person I currently liked, ask me out. Even really weird ones like angry occultist children who tried to kill Beyoncé and I was the one who was supposed to protect her from getting sacrificed to Satan. But, this one was the weirdest one of all. {A/N: TRUE STORY! I had that one last week. It ended with my dad asking me if I wanted bacon}
What was that dream? Why did it seem familiar? Who was that person?
