(ANNA POV)

I phase back and reach the edge of the woods when I see a stray vampire come out from behind a rock. Leah goes to fight it.

"Leah, don't," I call out. The vampire wraps his arms around Leah. Jake intervenes before the vamp can crush her bones. I got closer to where they were fighting. I hold my breath as the vamp gets his arms around Jake. The vamp then crushes his bones. Paul takes the vamp out making him drop Jake.

"Jacob!" I yell and fall down beside him from the pain. Jake phases back from the pain.

"Jacob!" Bella yells coming over. "Hold on, Carlisle is gonna take care of you."

"The bones on the right half of his body are shattered," Carlisle says and I nod because the right side of my body is numb.

"Bella," Jake tries saying and I start crying.

"Jake, I'm right here," Bella says.

"Jacob, you idiot. I had it," Leah says when the pack comes back from phasing.

"Leah," Sam says in his Alpha voice.

"I need to set the bones before his accelerated healing kicks in. It's already starting," Carlisle says.

"We need to get him out of here. We're not gonna win a fight with the Volturi," Edward explains.

"We'll take him back to Billy's," Sam says.

"I'll be there as soon as I can," Carlisle says.

"Hang in there, Jake," Bella says.

"We got you," Paul says as everyone but Sam picks Jake up.

"Anna needs to go too since she's human," Edward says. I'm still sitting on the ground. Sam nods before picking me up and carrying me. He's the only one that knows why I'm in the state I'm in. When Carlisle makes it to Billy's, he starts rebreaking Jake's bones. I'm sitting outside with the others. Paul keeps rubbing my shoulder to help keep me calm. No one understands the reason I'm acting the way I'm acting and I won't talk either. Bella then shows up. She comes over and hugs me.

"It's been going on for a while. Doc's rebreaking his bones," Jared explains.

"Why'd he have to butt in? I could've taken that tick," Leah says.

"Oh, give it a rest, Leah," I say finally speaking.

"The worst is over. He'll be alright. I gave him some morphine, but his body temperature will burn it off soon. I'll come back to set up a drip," Carlisle explains when him, Sam, and Sue Clearwater walk out.

"Thank you," Billy says.

"He's asking for you both," Carlisle says turning to Bella and me. It makes me wonder, why me? Bella heads towards the door but I grab her arm. I turn and look at Billy asking if it was okay and he nods. We go inside. I stay standing at his doorframe while Bella sits beside him.

"Hey, Jake," Bella says.

"Hey. I was worried about you," Jake says.

"You were worried about me?" Bella asks.

"Yeah. I guessed Edward would read my thoughts. Was he hard on you?" Jake answers.

"He wasn't even mad at me. Or you," Bella explains.

"Well, damn. He's better than I thought," Jake says.

"He's not playing a game," Bella says seriously.

"Bella... He's not as perfect as you think," Jake starts.

"I know who he is. Let's not talk about that," Bella says.

"I'd rather get all the rebreaking done at once. At least I know I did everything I could. Wasn't easy making you admit your feelings for me," Jake explains.

"I only fought them, because I know they wouldn't change anything," Bella states.

"I'm exactly right for you, Bella. It would be as easy as breathing with me," Jake says.

"You know I love you," Bella says.

"You know how much I wish it was enough," Jake says.

"Should I come back?" Bella asks.

"I need some time. But I'll always be waiting," Jake answers.

"Until my heart stops beating," Bella says.

"Maybe even then," Jake whispers as Bella leaves.

"I'll see you later," I whisper to her. I then walk over to Jake.

"Hey," I say softly as I sit. Carlisle then comes back. He sets up the drip, then leaves.

"Hey," He says before lightly grabbing my hand. "Can you stay with me? I don't want to be by myself and you're my best friend." I heart almost breaks when he says best friend but that's part of my duties.

"Yeah, I will," I say with a small smile while squeezing his hand. He scoots over so I can lay with him. Being an imprint means I'll be whatever he needs me to be. So, I'll be his best friend.
