(Anna POV)

Sam put a gag order on Jake so he couldn't talk to Bella. Because of this, Bella's nightmares are slowly starting to come back.

"Jake. Uh, your Dad says you have mono. He won't let me visit but... would you call me? Hey, uh, it's me again. I just... I'm sorry about what I said at the movie theatre. I just wanted to hear your voice. So, no pressure. Jacob, please call me," Bella says after calling Jacob for like the third time today. It's starting to hurt me because of how much she is hurting. I'm going to have to talk to Sam. I've been staying with Bella instead of going to the reservation for two reasons. Paul finally imprinted on Jacob's sister and because of Jacob.

"Okay, we should be back around three. Hey! Look, I don't have to go fishing today," Charlie says as he's about to leave with Harry Clearwater.

"Yes, you do," Harry says.

"Yeah, you do. Go. What are you talking about? Just be careful," Bella says.

"I always am," Charlie says.

"Those bears won't get the drop on me, Bella. My Kung foo is strong," Harry says jokingly. I laugh. After they leave, Bella gets this great idea to go to Billy's to see Jacob. I put contacts in and go with her. I don't need her getting hurt because of Jacob being a new shifter. It starts raining as we pull up to Billy's and get out. Jake happens to be heading to the woods.

"Jake! You cut your hair? And got a tattoo?" Bella questions when we catch up to him.

"Bella..." I try to get her to stop.

"I thought you were too sick to come outside. Or pick up the phone when I'd call," Bella accuses.

"Go away," Jake says trying to keep it together.

"What?" Bella asks.

"Go away," Jake says.

"What happened to you? What's wrong? Hey, what happened? Did Sam get to you? Is that what's happening?" Bella questions and I knew that would stick a nerve in Jake. So, I stand to where I am in front of Bella but to the side. Jake's eyes show confusion at what I did.

"Sam's trying to help me, don't blame him. But if you want somebody to blame, how about those filthy bloodsuckers, you love? The Cullens," Jake says venomously. I glare at him.

"I don't know what are you talking about," Bella lies.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about. You've been lying to everyone. Charlie... But you can't lie to me. Not anymore, Bella," Jake says. Sam, Jared, Paul, and Embry then come to the edge of the tree line.

"Come on! Jacob!" Sam calls.

"Look, Bella... We can't be friends anymore," Jake says in hope she will leave.

"Jake, I know that I have been hurting you. It's... it's killing me. It kills me. If you, maybe, give me like some time," Bella pleads. I look over at Sam and he nods in appreciation of how I'm standing between them.

"Don't! It's not you," Jake says.

"It's not you, it's me, right? Really?" Bella says sarcastically.

"It's true! It is me. I'm not good. I used to be... a great kid. Not anymore. It doesn't even matter, alright? This is over," Jake says trying to walk away.

"You can't break up with me. I mean... I mean, you're my best friend. You promised me," Bella pleads.

"I know. I promised that I won't hurt you, Bella. And this is me keeping that promise. Go home. And don't come back. Or you're gonna get hurt," Jake says before running off to Sam and the pack. I take Bella home, knowing she is hurting. The next day Bella wanted to go for a hike so I made her take me with her. We make it to a field where she and Edward used to come judging by her thoughts. All of a sudden I smell a vampire that is not the Cullens.

"Bella. Anna," Laurent says.

"Laurent!" Bella exclaims.

"I didn't expect to find you here. I went to visit the Cullens, but the house is empty. I'm surprised they left you behind. Weren't you sort of a, um, a pet of theirs?" Laurent explains and asks.

"Yeah. You could say that," Bella agrees.

"Do they Cullens visit often?" Laurent asks and Bella starts seeing Edward.

"Yeah, absolutely, all the time," Bella answers and I nod my head in agreement. "I'll tell them that you stopped by. I probably shouldn't tell Edward. Because he's pretty protective."

"But he's far away, isn't he?" Laurent asks.

"Why are you here?" I ask him.

"I came as a favor to Victoria," Laurent answers.

"Victoria?" Bella asks.

"She asked me to see if you were still under the protection of the Cullens. Victoria feels it's only fair to kill Edwards mate given he killed hers. An eye for an eye," Laurent explains.

"Edward would know who did it! And he'd come after you," Bella says.

"I don't think he will. After all, how much could you mean to him if he left you here unprotected?" Laurent asks.

"Who says she's unprotected?" I ask thinking about the pack. I could hear them starting to get close.

"What could a human like you do?" Laurent asks.

"You have no idea," I answer trying to give the pack time to get here.

"Victoria won't be happy about me killing you both. But I can't help myself. You're so mouthwatering," Laurent says messing with Bella's hair.

"Please, don't! I mean, you'd helped us," Bella pleads and I push Laurent back slightly.

"Shhhh! Don't be afraid. I'm doing you a kindness. Victoria plans on killing you slowly, painfully, whereas I'll make it quick. I promise. You will feel nothing," Laurent says as he pulls his arm back before he will grab Bella. I stand in between them.

"Edward, I love you," I hear Bella say. Laurent pauses and looks to the woods.

"I don't believe it," He says and prepares to turn to run. I trip him before he can run.

"Run, Bella. Run! I'll catch up!" I yell at her making her break eye contact with Jake. Bella runs while Laurent has gotten up and started running. I jump and push Laurent to the ground before turning to run. The pack kills Laurent with Jake ripping his head off. I meet Bella at the truck and drive home.
