Immortality

When I set out to write this poem,
A poem on living forever,
All I could think of was the story books.

The stories of salty,
Unhappy,
Vampire immortals,
With tales of lost love,
Of soulmates of different times,
All with one lesson:
Immortality is terrible.

And the truth is?
I think they're right.
Although it's true it would be amazing to live forever and watch the world grow and change,
To never have the chance to escape this miserable existence?
I can't even fathom.

The only reason I am okay with death is because I have hope,
As a Christian,
That heaven is real and that when I get there there will be no pain.

Immortality would erase that hope.

Why would I want that?
