Today was my first day at New Bridge High School and I will admit, I am kind of nervous. Will the kids here make fun of the mask that I have to wear? It's not my fault that the government requires me to wear this stupid mask when I am out in public! I didn't want to move to Aszar anyways, I was only here due to a "experiment." I'm sorry, let me back track a little.
Please call me Cry, it's the name that I prefer to go by. I am a sixteen year old "alien" that the government is testing out. They want to see how I react with humans. I wasn't so sure that this was a good idea. I'm hesitant on the governments decision on letting someone like me to enter the human society. But that's a story for another time.
Now just because the government's precious "experiment" was secretly on school grounds doesn't mean that I am not constantly under watch. I flinch as I walk by a government official who was disguised as a teacher. They really think that I am that stupid to not recognize one of them in disguise? And let me say it was a pretty horrible disguise. I sigh, as the government official grabs the back of my book bag.
"Listen," The female whispers. "Don't try anything funny okay? We may be on school grounds but I'm not afraid to shoot you if anything goes wrong."
"Honestly," I sigh. "Can you guys lay off of me for a couple of seconds? I just got here." She ignored me, handing me a slip of paper.
"This is your schedule. I'll help you find your first class but after that you are on your own." I roll my eyes.
"Whatever." I glance down at it. The first class I had was Space science with Mr. Beweol r.m. 12A.
"Follow me," the official says, walking down the hall. I sigh and follow her. "Okay, while I'm taking you to your first class, let me go over a few rules."
"Oh lovely. How could I ever forget that there's always a catch with you guys." The official huffs.
"Rule One: you are not allowed to leave this campus. Someone from the government will come to pick you up each day after school let's out. And don't think about trying to be slick and sneak around trying to leave while classes are in session, because there are more government officials out here than you think. In fact, half of your classes are taught by people like me, so don't try anything.
"Rule Two: interact with humans. Remember that you are here as an experiment, not for education, so we need you to interact with people so we can get a more accurate result." I sigh as we rounded a corner. It was so empty in the halls. I thought about saying something snarky to the official but decided that it was best to let her drone on.
"Rule Three: never, and I repeat, never take your mask off in front of a human. You wear it for a reason; to 'protect' your identity. Also to not raise any alarms about you being a 'freak'. Better to be safe than sorry." I sigh again.
"Are you done?" I ask as we stopped in front of a door labeled Welcome to space science! The official smiles.
"Yes, I'm done." She grabs the door handle. My heart beats a little faster. I was such a nervous wreck. "Ready?" I nod.
"Let's do this considering I have no other choice..." I grip the strap of my bag a little tighter. My thoughts were going all over the place as the official opens the door and I step into the classroom.
