~Two~

"Lana, can you hear me, baby."

Mom.

My eyelids feel heavy as I open them, the harsh light of a lamp, makes me close my eyes again. "Turn off the damn light." My mother screams, brushing the hair from my face.

I hear the soft click as someone turns it off. Trying again, I open my eyes seeing my mom first. Glancing around the room Savanna one of the High Sisters is standing in the corner, her hands behind her back. She peers at me, an expression on her face, of concern, curiosity maybe.

My eyes move again finding someone else. What the heck is he doing here. Vincent is standing by the door, leaning against the frame like some model. He has no reason to be here, where exactly is here.

"Mom, why am I here." I was so confused.

"You don't remember, Lana." I shook my head at her. "After you obtained your elements, you fell then you passed out."

I passed out, " Yeah and I caught you, for someone so tiny you're pretty heavy." Vincent that arrogant self centered ass. I glared at me, a smirk on his dumb face.

"Why is he even in here." I asked my mom but Savanna answered.

"Doesn't matter, as long as you're feeling better. You really don't remember, child."

"No I remember talking with you and then nothing. Am I sick?"

"No your not. It was most likely your nerves, too much pressure. You're fine now, Lana."

I felt fine but I couldn't help but feel that I was missing something. Shrugging it off I smiled at my mom. "I'm fine. Can we go home now."

"Yes baby. Thank you Savanna for bringing her here." I peered at Vincent, while mom and the Sister talked amongst themselves. He just stayed there standing by the door, watching me.

"Why are you here? " I questioned. Not caring if I seemed rude.

He pushed off the wall smoothly like he done it a million times. "If you must know, I'm staying here this is in fact my room." I stared bug eyed as he stood by the bed.

I'm laying in his bed, who decided this. And why wasn't he with his parents. " Why bring me here? My house is perfectly fine." I was becoming fidgety as I lay in his bed, I had to get out of it, now. Pulling the blankets away, I swing my legs off the bed, my feet touching the cold ground.

"Sister wanted to keep an eye on you." He shrugged. Trying to stand was somewhat difficult I felt slightly dizzy. "Need some help."

I shook my head. "Why do you live with Savanna." I was curious.

"It's none of your business, Lana." Now I was very interested, he was hiding something I know he is. I'll find out myself.  "Now can you walk or what." Ugh jerk face was back.

"Yeah I got it Mr. Hyde." He chuckled. "Dr. Jekyll is back already I was waiting for you to stomp away."

"You should be nice to me, Mr. Hyde doesn't like inconsiderate people." He whispered.

Before I could make a witty comeback my mother came over to retrieve me. "Let's go home, Lana. You're training is tomorrow with the sisters." I almost forgot, we needed to begin controlling our new gifts. "Bye Vincent, thank you for letting Lana stay in your room"

"It was no problem, Ms. Child's." He smiled, actually smiled. And of course my mother fell for it.

"Bye sister." Turning to Vincent I said. "Mr. Hyde." He winked. My stomach did one of those stupid floppy things, butterflies.

I tried rushing out the house as fast as possible. My mom complaining the whole time that I was surely to pass out again. Ignoring g her I opened the door to her car, watching as Vincent and Savanna said their goodbyes again. He stared at me the whole time, making me feel uneasy and well flushed. Averting my gaze I stared at a squirrel as it scurried up a tree clinching leaves in it's a mouth. When my mother decided to finish talking she walked over to the car. Her red hair shining in the sun. Fall was near, the leaves are starting to change color, my favorite colors and the air is snippier some days, the cold air slowly trickling in. A time of sweatshirts and boots.

"I’m making lasagna for dinner. Your favorite."

"Awesome.” Maybe my mother knew why Vincent was starting with Sister Savanna. "Why is he staying wi-"

"Nope. Mind your own business, Lana."

I crossed my arms, she always knew when I was being nosey. I couldn't help my curious nature. We made it home a little after one thirty, my mom got busy making dinner, I went up to my room flicking on the TV. I greeted Lucifer as he jumped onto my lap, gifting him kisses and scratches behind the ear.

He was a fluffy black cat with yellow eyes, I've had him since he was a kitten, growing up around living Disney I named him after Cinderella's evil stepmother's cat, Lucifer. He was loyal as her cat but not as cruel, I don't know what I was thinking.

"Another body was found..." I looked up at the TV catching the words of the reporter. Murders. I listened raising the volume on my TV.

"Another tragic death, the body was found earlier today, on the outskirts of the forest. Like before the body was tied to a tree, brutally beaten, strange symbols covered the body. The identity of the man has yet to be released. Police inform all residents to report any suspicious activity. No other information has been released, regarding if this is related to other deaths occurring in the area."

A serial killer, it had to be but what were the strange symbols he was talking about. Opening my phone I searched the internet, finding no pictures of the symbols the reporter mentioned. I was now in full curious wacko mode, I searched more websites finally finding what I was looking for. Someone was there at the time the man who took the photos was not very close and his camera sucked. I zoomed in on the picture, I didn't recognize any of the symbols, some of them were simple, others intricate well thought of. They had to have some sort of meaning, they weren't random.

"Lana dinner's almost ready!"

"Okay!" I yelled back. Maybe the guy who took the photos has other pictures I could see. On a profile, Facebook, any social media sights, I'll have to look.

Walking to the hallway I joined my mom in the kitchen. "Get plates and silverware out please." I did as she said pulling out two plates and two forks setting them on the counter.

Maybe if I searched other news channels and found other pictures or better reports of the deaths that occurred I could get a better idea of the situation. I ran to the living room flicking on the TV, I scrolling through the guide for other news channels on. Haunting on channel eight, I waited for the next headline.

"Random killings found in the Alabama area and the surrounding states have been reported in the past month, police claim them to be random not linked together." That's impossible, they were the same markings and the victim was tied up the same also.

"Further reports say that victims were of no significant to the other, making them copycats. The police found d no trademark left behind indicating that the deaths were done by the same person." That's such crap, the markings on the bodies is the trademark. The police are feeding the news shit, nothing but lies to cover up a major serial killer.

"Further reports on the matter will continue tomorrow, updates from the police and witnesses." Changing the channel, I found no other news channel that talked about the story. Frustrated I through the promote on the couch. How could they say the murders weren't related.

Going back into the kitchen I set our plates on the table. I watched my mom pull out the lasagna from the oven and set in the middle. Grabbing ginger ale from the fridge I poured me and my mom a glass. Sitting down I served myself and handed the spatula to mom.

"Thanks, mom. It's looks amazing." Taking a bite, I let the hot food warm me.

"You deserve a good dinner. Lana two elements that's never been heard of."

"I know but I'm kind of terrified." What if they don't balance out right? They could kill me.

"You'll be fine. The Sister's will know how to handle something like this. It's what they are brought up to do." She continued to eat.

"I just have a funny feeling that's all." Like the two elements will fight, only to hurt me in the process. No one has heard of a witch possessing two elements so how does anyone know about what's going on with me. Only I know.

"Relax, The Sister's will know." I have a feeling they don't. Maybe the book of moons knows something or the book of craft. Maybe the book keeper knows, he's the one in charge of all things sacred to witches and what not. He's mortal but then again he's not. I need to meet with him, he has to know something.

Finishing my dinner, I cleaned, helping my mom with the dishes. "Can I see the book keeper."

"No, it's late Lana."

I sighed. "Tomorrow then."

"Why do you need to see him so suddenly?" She turns to me, hands on her hips.

"I wanted to ask him a few things, that's all. Just get some answers." I shrugged.

"The Sister's will give you answers."

I was becoming angry with her. She wasn't listening to me at all, "What if The Sister's don't know?"

"They do."

"How are you so sure Mother!"

She backed away from me, eyes wide. "Lana you're on fire!" Her hair whipped around her the wind picking up. "Lana relax!"

I fought my sudden outburst reeling in my elements. I have never gotten that angry before to want to hurt someone.

What's wrong with me?

"I'm going to bed." I muttered, leaving the kitchen. She didn't reply, letting me leave.

I had to see him tomorrow. There's no other person I would ask to help me.

Crap. Tomorrow is the day we begin training, freaking boot camp for witches. Sighing I felt myself drifting, Lucifer jumps on my bed cuddling into my side I smile, greedily taking in his comfort.
