Chapter Four - Where to Look
Hi! I'm in a mood. I am in full bitch mode right now so I wouldn't piss me off if I was you. Although if you do I am sorry in advance. Anyway, I was curious to know if you would read it if I did an "HP Fanfic Pet Peeves" or if I did anything original? Just wondering. Enjoy!

Ron woke up with a start when an owl tapped on his window. He got out of his rickety bed and let the owl inside before taking the letter from its beak. He gave the owl a treat and recognised the hand writing as his friend Hermione's. He ripped it open and pulled out the neatly folded parchment and began to read it.
Dear Ron,
I was looking through the Riddle family records and found a few estates he might be staying at. Riddle Mansion, a cabin near a waterfall and there was one called Gaunt Cottage. I think Gaunt was his mothers maiden name. But get this, in both Riddle Mansion and Gaunt Cottage there were entire families murdered with seemingly no explanation. The Gaunt's were sorcerers however, but the Ministry of Magic had no suspects. And the Riddle's were mundanes that just seemed to die. There was no poison or any mundane explanation for it. I think we should check out these places. I've already sent a message to Harry.
Lots of Love,
Hermione,
Ron set the paper down. He'd have to ask his dad if he knew anything about the Gaunt's. Ron's dad worked for the Ministry, although, he worked in the department dedicated to keeping mundanes safe and out of it. But Ministry officials talked. The Ministry of Magic was something supernatural creatures had created to govern the supernatural world. There were three sectors. The undead, the shape shifters and the sorcerers - seeing as sorcerers took up fifty percent of the supernatural world. The Minister of Magic was the person at the top of the hierarchy. Currently, it was someone named Cornelius Fudge.
Ron went down the four flights of stairs from his orange attic and into the kitchen to see his younger sister Ginny and one of his older brothers Percy already at the table. His mum Molly stood in the kitchen making some breakfast while his dad Arthur soon walked in with the latest copy of The Daily Prophet - a supernatural newspaper. Ron sat down at the table and let his mum put some scrambled eggs on a plate in front of him.
The table had cracks in some of the planks and his chair had had part replace broken parts so many times it looked nothing like it did when he was six. But he wasn't six anymore. He was thirteen. And because he was thirteen, he could negotiate into being allowed out of the house. Say he's visiting Harry to see how the transition from Privet Drive was going. Well, he wouldn't be lying entirely. Just skipping the part about looking for Tom.
"Hey Mum," Ron caught his Mums attention, "I was wondering if I could go to Grimald Place? You know, see how Harry's going with it all?"
"Well that's very sweet of you," his Mum smiled, "I don't see why not."
"Can I come?" Ginny asked.
"Well - "
"Ron," his Dad put the paper down, "don't you think it would be nice to help your sister make some friends?" His Dad asked as more of a strong suggestion.
Ron groaned, "You can come."
Ginny smiled before going back to her scrambled eggs. Percy had left - most likely to polish his Head Boy badge. Ron finished his breakfast and went up to his bedroom in the attic to collect his bag for the adventure ahead. Only, he'd have to shake Ginny first.
The door slammed behind him and he turned to see his red headed sister.
"You're not leaving me behind," she claimed.
"Yes, I am," Ron slung his bag over his shoulder, "You don't understand."
"No, I understand full well," Ginny stepped forward, "You, Harry and Hermione are all going on a hero mission. I'm helping."
"Gin," Ron sighed, "this is bigger then you think."
"Ron," Ginny's voice turned dangerously low, "Last time you left me behind, Tom possessed me. So I'm helping. I've been in his head, I know him better then all of you three combined. You need me."
Ron sighed. As much as he hated to admit it, she was completely right. She knew his mind the best out of anyone they knew, wouldn't hurt to have her on their team.
"Fine," Ron submitted, "You can come with us."
Ginny smiled triumphantly and Ron rolled his eyes at her. She left to pack her own adventure bag as she had named it, and when she came back they flooed to Grimald Place. It was a lot nicer inside than the outside made it seem. Although, the Black family were notoriously known for their friendships with powerful vampires.
Vampires were good allies and terrible enemies. The whole ritual for vampirism was strange. Especially when the toxic venom was considered. If someone that hadn't started the transition was bitten they were as good as dead within the next twenty-four hours. The only known cure was the blood of an original vampire, but they had all died when sorcerers began to fear their strength. It cursed what was known as the 'Grindlewars' when a man named Gillert Grindlewald rioted to give vampires a say in government. He won and shapeshifters were given their say as well.
"Hey guys," Harry greeted, "Sirius is in the shower currently. We can wait until he's done."
The Weasley's nodded and Ron took a seat on the couch. Ginny joined and Harry sat across from them.
"So," Harry glanced at Ginny, "What are you doing here?"
"Relax Harry," Ginny rolled her eyes, "I know you guys are going on some adventure."
Harry eyed Ron, "You told her!?"
"No!" Ron replied, "She figured it out!"
"And so you brought her?"
"Not like I had a choice," Ron started, "And besides, Tom possessed her. She knows the guy better than any of us."
"This is dangerous," Harry explained, "This time he isn't coming to us, we're going to him."
"Guys!" Ginny intervened, "I am here, I know you guys are looking for Tom, and I know him best. It would be foolish to not involve me."
Harry still seemed annoyed and Ron had to admit, he was too. This was his sister he was getting involved in all of this. Even with all the trouble they give each other he still didn't want her to get seriously hurt. He didn't think he'd be able to forgive himself if something happened to her. So, for him at least, protecting Ginny was the main objective. Finding Tom and the sword was also high on his radar, but not quite as important to him.
"Fine," Harry sighed in annoyance, slumping back in his seat, "You can come. But any sign of endangerment and you leave."
Ginny rolled her eyes, "Okay fine," Ginny smiled triumphantly adding, "But I can handle myself."
Ron didn't understand why Harry was so upset about this. Perhaps it was because he was the one to find her almost dead in the chamber, but either way, it would do Ginny well.
Soon after there was a knock on the door and Harry got up to get it. Ron could vaguely hear a conversation start between Hermione and Harry. The two joined the Weasley's in the living room and sat down.
"So, Ginny's joining us?" Hermione smiled.
Ron groaned, "Sadly."
"Good," Hermione looked at Ginny, "The more the merrier. But onto more pressing issues. I think we should check out the waterfall cabin first."
"Why there?" Harry asked.
"It's the only place that a massacre didn't take place," Hermione said, "I thought that was obvious."
"Yeah," Ginny replied, "Too obvious. Tom's not stupid. He's seventy years old and probably thought of that."
"Well maybe we split up," Ron suggested, "If we do that then we cover more ground quicker."
"Yes, but he's a seventy year old warlock that somehow now takes the form of a twenty year old," Hermione said, "He's too powerful to take on one on one."
"Then we bring people," Harry added, "Sirius is willing to help so there's always that. And Dobby would help if we asked."
"Sounds like a good idea," Ginny replied.
And with that said, the four teens, the adult and the house-elf (a magical creature created with the purpose to serve a master that they had met the year prior when he tried to get Harry sent home from Hogwarts so that he wouldn't encounter Tom) paired up for the adventure. Ron and Ginny going together, Harry and Sirius going together, and Hermione and Dobby going together.

Sirius and Harry ended up going to Gaunt Cottage to look around. The place had been difficult to find but as it turns out, it was rather close to Riddle Mansion. Harry wondered if that had something to do with how Tom's parents met. But he shoved the thought aside as Sirius opened the door.
The place was small and made of stone with moss and vines covering the exterior and parts of the interior. The door itself was in rough condition. But once inside they saw that there was a basement where the family probably spent most of their time. The the ground floor was really only a simple kitchen and dining area with very few places to hide something as large as a sword. So the duo migrated downstairs in search of the mighty blade.
The downstairs was much more grand but still only had four bedrooms and two bathrooms. They checked for secret rooms or classic sorcerer hiding places but found none. Tom wasn't hiding out in the cottage. And neither was the sword. So, the pair quickly left to hurry to the Riddle Mansion.
Hermione and Dobby had been there, they'd already covered the ground floor and wine cellar, which had held no sword or sign of Tom's presence. The Mansion was a big building with grand gates but had also overgrown and fallen to disrepair.
Harry and Sirius soon joined Dobby and Hermione in searching the large building. But they found nothing. No trace of anyone except for the massacred family having ever been there. Which left the old canon by the waterfall that Ron and Ginny had been searching.
The four used a spell to essentially teleport there and hurried inside to look for their friends. Once they saw Ron and Ginny in the kitchen, turning the room upside down they all let out a sigh of relief.
"You won't believe how many hiding places they have per room here," Ron said, "I had to investigate hiding places to look for hiding places."
Hermione chuckled.
Dobby the house-elf then spoke up, "Mr. Black and Dobby must go," the creature said in a squeaky voice, "Dobby has work to do at Hogwarts and Mr. Black has a meeting with the Ministry."
"Do you kids think you'll be okay without us?" Sirius asked, "Because if not I can postpone the meeting."
"Sirius," Harry started, "With all that we've gone through, I think we know how to handle ourselves."
Sirius nodded reluctantly before using the same spell from before to leave. Dobby then did the same. This left the four teens to continue searching the building. Once every crevice of the kitchen had been excavated they moved onto the deck and stairs. Each step had a secret compartment, but none contained a sword. And under just about every piece of outdoor furniture, there was a hiding spot with another hiding spot inside. The owners sure were paranoid, Harry thought.
After inspecting each nook and cranny of the deck and stairs they went to the second level and investigated the bedrooms. The first had nothing in any of the hiding places and the only thing they found in the bathroom was emergency toiletries. In the second they found a stash of clothes but no sword. The third bedroom had bunk beds and twice as many hiding places as the other rooms. However, there was still no sign of a sword anywhere.
Hermione sighed, "Maybe I missed a place."
"Or maybe Tom is a lot smarter than we gave him credit for," Ron said.
Harry kicked the wall in annoyance and the canon number fell off. Revealing a small key.
"Did you see any locked rooms or boxes in the cabin?" Ginny asked.
"No..." Hermione glanced at the waterfall, her expression shifting, "Maybe it hasn't got anything to do with the canon itself. Maybe we've been looking in the wrong places."
The other three turned to the waterfall.
"You don't really think the swords in there do you?" Harry asked.
"I think it would be foolish not to look," Hermione replied.
The four teens glanced at each other, nodding before heading towards the precipice. They went around the water to get inside and searched for anything remotely resembling a key hole. Harry looked for fake rocks or hidden boxes and got fair into the cave before Ron called out.
"Guys!" The red head exclaimed, "There's a small hole in this wall!"
Everyone hurried over to see what he was talking about and there it was. A hole that perfectly fit the key they found. They used it and then pushed the rock to reveal a room with a desk and bookshelves. Clearly a hidden office. But what captivated their attention was the Sword of Gryffindor, laying on the desk in all its glory.
"Wow," Hermione whispered, "I feel like I should curtsy. Is that just me?"
Ginny giggled, "Nope."
They heard a slam and spun on their toes to see a twenty year old Tom Riddle standing before them.
"It was very nice of you to pay me a visit."
