Going to Die
He was dang creepy.
As Harry looked at the man that stood in the Hospital Wing like he had years before, he felt an urge to run.
The man didn't wear his heavy cloak, pulled over his eyes, anymore. Now, he wore simple Muggle clothes. Blue jeans that were extremely dark, a black button down and simple trainers. He almost looked normal.
But then you saw his eyes. Dark, deep-set eyes. He had dark circles around them, and they held almost no emotion. His lips were pressed into a firm line.
"Ah, well, look who it is. My favorite uncle." Katrin said sarcastically, standing from Ginny's bedside.
"Katrin!" Cain furrowed his dark eyebrows, "That was rude."
"I am rude." She retorted.
"It's alright." The man said, "She doesn't mean any harm."
Harry was unsure of how true that statement actually was, but let it slide, "I know you." He said.
"Yes," Greg didn't say anything else about that, instead turning to Cain, "Are you all ready?" He asked.
"As ready as we'll ever be." Katrin answered.
"Good. The family is waiting."
"The whole family?" Cain suddenly looked panicked.
"Yes," Said Greg.
The two siblings exchanged glances, then looked over at Harry like they expected him to say something. He didn't know what to do, so he tried to cover up his nervousness using questions.
"How are you getting us out of here?" Harry asked.
"You were invited to a family reunion." Greg said, "Or, that's what McGonagall thinks. Dumbledore knows of your plans and completely approves."
"Which is strange," Katrin added, "We're only kids."
"Speak for yourself," Cain scoffed, running his fingers through his hair and messing it up slightly.
"Admit it," Katrin smiled slightly, "You're just a big baby." Her brother shoved her over slightly.
Harry was livid now. They were playing around at the worst time possible, while Ginny was in danger. There shouldn't be any smiles or any laughter. Not while she was hurt.
"Let's go." Harry said. Greg nodded, his eyes sliding over to where Ginny was under the white sheets of the little cot. His head tilted to the side.
"She doesn't look too good." He said.
"Thanks for pointing that out." Harry said, "Let's go."
///
Walking through London at three o' clock on a Saturday afternoon was not a fun experience. The four of them had to dodge between men and women rushing to get home from work, and had to dodge hands as people made crazy gestures while they talked to friends. Katrin's toes were trodden several times, making her almost lose her chill and punch someone in the schnoz.
"It's what they do." Cain leaned his arm on her shoulder, "They quite enjoy giving other people pain. Extraordinary breed. You should see them during mating season."
"Ah, shut up." Katrin shook her head. Harry snorted from the other side of Cain, and drew her attention. He was handsome, sure, but she wasn't really into him. In fact, he reminded her of Cain in many ways. The boys were so similar that it had sparked a sort of rivalry between them. They were both honorable and sweet, gentlemanly and funny, but they were also different. Harry was less laid-back than Cain. And Cain was less oblivious than Harry. Harry had rugged good looks and serious green eyes, and Cain was well-put-together but also just plan goofy. Both boys had green eyes, but Harry's were a darker emerald green and Cain's were almost mint green.
And both were head-over-heels for girls that loved them back equally as much. Even if thy wouldn't admit it. Sometimes, Katrin wished she could find a love like that. Like what Harry and Ginny had, or what Cain and Corrie had. But, she knew it was probably never going to happen. It wasn't her fate. She wasn't ever going to find love.
Pessimistic, huh? She shook her head at her inner voice, frowning at the ground. But, at least she accepted it. She knew she'd never find anyone, and she was okay with that. She'd just have to live her short life by herself.
Her very, very short life.
"Prisistance, you need to listen to me." Her father's voice said, "They're coming. I know they are. That mean's that either Cain or Katrin is going to become full-blooded--"
"Stop!" Katrin jerked back at the sound of her mother's voice, then pressed her ear to the door harder. Her eyes were wide and afraid as she waited for her mum to continue. "They aren't Guardians."
"Not yet!" His voice was excited, which confused Katrin, "But they will be! The first in years!"
"Only one can be a Guardian!"
"And it will be Canaan. He's our son." He explained.
"What about Katrina?" Prisistance asked, "What about her?"
"If she doesn't receive the Blessing and become Full-Blooded, she'll live." He said.
"You mean..."
"I'm afraid so," He sighed, "It's said that after the Bonded's mission is completed, there is no use for the Guardian. And after an incident way back in the past, the spirits decided that they cannot risk having the Guardian alive with all the knowledge and power they had gained."
"But the Bonded survive?" Prisistance asked, "How fair is that?"
"Very fair! Very, very fair! The two Bonded are pure light, pure goodness and mercy." He spoke with admiration, "But the Guardians are normal. They have the capacity to do evil."
"And don't the Bonded--"
"I don't make the rules, Prisistance!" He was suddenly angry, and it made Katrin's heart almost stop out of fear, she didn't want her parents to fight. He was getting defensive now.
"Well, excuse me for being upset that my son will die!" Prisistance exploded.
"He will die for a good cause!" There was a banging sound as Katrin's father slammed his fist on the counter.
"Stop it! Stop defending it!"
"No! This is my whole life, Prisistance and you should know that!" He screamed.
"I thought I was your life."
Silence...
"Get out." Her voice was cold and steady.
"Pris-"
"Get out of my house! Stay away from my children!" Now her voice trembled with emotion.
"This won't stop what is to happen. They have the blood of a Guardian in them--"
"GET OUT."
And that was the last time Katrin had seen her parents together. And the moment she knew that her life wasn't normal, even if she thought then that it was Cain was to be the Guardian.
But little did she know, that was not what would happen.
She didn't know then...
But now it seemed so obvious. So blunt.
She was going to die.
