Ch. 18 Dating Once Again

"Gin?" Harry moved some of his girlfriend's fiery hair from her face. Ginny hummed. Her hands were laying over his chest peacefully, and her head rested on his arm as they lay on Harry's bed, waiting for Sirius to leave from downstairs. He'd been more focused on talking with James and Lily about the schedule than he was with taking them to the Ministry to train, and eventually they wandered to Harry's room to rest.

"We should go on another date," He smiled, "We've only been on one so far, and that was a long time ago."

"But we practically live with each other, Harry," Ginny reminded him, opening her eyes, her gaze roaming over his face, "Dates are usually for people who don't get to see each other often after they become serious."

"Yeah, but we've been dating for a while, yet we've barely been on a date."

Ginny shrugged, "Our position is slightly special isn't it? Since, apparently, we're going to..." She blushed and changed the subject, "Sure, Harry. What do you want to do?"

Harry grinned, looking up at his ceiling as he thought, "Dinner. Or a picnic again. It's up to you, really."

Ginny's eyes lit up excitedly, and she lifted herself up to rest on the palms of her hands as she looked down at Harry who had his eyebrows raised.

"Anywhere?" She asked sweetly. Harry laughed and nodded, "Well, I've been wanting to go somewhere for a long time now."

"A long time? When did that start?" He asked, leaning up on his elbows.

"This morning," Harry rolled his eyes, "Shut up!" She pushed at his shoulder. He just laughed and motioned for her to continue, "Anyway, before I was interrupted. I got a letter this morning. The Boyle's are hosting a party."

"Why didn't I get a letter?" Harry pouted. Katrin had saved his life after the Triwizard Tournament, and she, Ginny, and him had all been talking recently. Or, at least keeping tabs on each other. Ginny shrugged.

"I don't know. Anyway, it's for Katrin's 14th. Her parents have that big clothing business, y'know. They're well off. Apparently they're throwing her this big party, and I want to go. It's formal attire." Harry gasped, putting his hand over his heart.

"Ginny Weasley? Offering to wear a dress? It's the end of the world." He flopped back onto the bed before she could punch him.

"Shut up, you git!" Ginny laughed, "Are we going or not?"

Staying home and doing nothing? Or being able to see his- gorgeous- girlfriend in a dress? It's pretty obvious what Harry chose.

"What time?" He asked.

"Tomorrow, 4:30." Ginny answered, half laying on his chest. Harry smiled.

"I'll have to brush off the ole suit and tie, then."

Ginny laughed, and leaned over to kiss him softly.

The Boyle mansion was humongous.

Eaves and towers, shimmering ponds, tall windows. It was beautiful. You wouldn't believe that the owners of that small, very pink, shop in Hogsmead also owned this monstrosity.

There must have been at least fifteen rooms, which may sound little to all you richies but these rooms were huge. Ballroom, kitchen, family area, and dining room not included, Ginny was pretty sure that she'd never been in a place besides Hogwarts with so many rooms.

"Wow." She breathed, looking as the neon lanterns illuminated the white siding of the house. It gave it a ghostly appearance, shadows wandering over the balconies, people in suits and ties and dresses of all colors.

"Yeah." Harry agreed, his arm around her waist. James looked like he might explode with excitement, but Lily managed to drag him away after saying bye to Ginny and Harry. They were mature enough to handle themselves without parents hounding over them.

"Hey!" Someone clapped a hand on Harry's shoulder and the two turned to see Cain Boyle standing with his devilish smirk. A black tux adorned his tall figure, and the jacket, which went to his upper thighs (😏), caught the lights that were set up for later on in the night, turning the black material a sort of purple color. His hair was combed to the perfect degree, but still messy, and his jaw line was as sharp as ever. (Seriously, the boy could cut butter with that jaw!). His minty eyes sparkled as he stuck his hands in his pockets.

"Cain!" Harry greeted, his arm still firmly around her waist and his mind keeping watch of her thoughts, "It's been a while."

Cain laughed his deep, velvety laugh, "Oh, yes it has. Come on, Katty is so excited to see you." There was a glint in his eye as he waved the two forward, "Make way for the Bonded!"

The inside was even more extravagant. A banner stretched across the entrance area, reading 'Finally 14!' With curly cursive handwriting over a deep purple background. People milled about, glasses of cider and butterbeer in their hands.

But the ballroom was even better, with its low lights and large feasts. Tables were scattered around, and kids danced their hearts out in the middle of the room. Ginny could see Katrin off to the side, looking absolutely terrified.

"Kat!" Cain shouted over the music. Katrin looked over in relief, then started walking over with her light blue dress billowing around her ankles.

"Thank Merlin you-" She looked over the Bonded, her eyes lingering, then swallowed and smiled, "Came. Nice to see you, Ginny." She nodded her head to the girl, "And Harry." She added, looking over at him. Harry waved slightly, feeling awkward. Her dark grey eyes looked over at Cain again, who smirked.

"Ah, happy birthday!" Ginny exclaimed, trying to break the nervous silence. Katrin thanked her, tucking a lock of escaped hair behind her ear.

"Can we sit now, or..." Harry completely misjudged the mood and thought everything was alright. When, in fact, there was a tense feeling spreading around the group. Katrin's face fell slightly, but she nodded, looking at the floor.

"Yeah, go on, you two. I'll just be... I'll be over here." And she swept away, towards where the food was waiting to be served.

"Did I say something?" Harry asked as Cain excused himself. Ginny rolled her eyes and they went to sit down at one of the tables when suddenly the two were attacked by a flying ball of hair.

"'Mione!" Ginny exclaimed, hugging the girl. Hermione hugged Harry as well, and looked between the two.

"Nice to see you here!" She bit her lip, "Is Ron coming?"

Ginny rolled her eyes for the millionth time that day, "No, he stayed home. Sorry to interrupt your little lovey duvy escapade." She smirked. Hermione blushed, and moved to sit next to them.

"You mind?" She asked, pointing at the chair. Harry and Ginny shook their heads and Hermione sat down, patting at her hair which had started getting frizzy again.

That was most of the night. Sitting and talking with Hermione, eating, drinking, and just altogether having fun.

Ginny would glance over to the corner of the room every now and again, always surprised to see Katrin standing there, looking at Harry enviously. Like somehow, she wished she was like him. Ginny didn't know why, but guessed it had something to do with being so powerful.

And that was the way it was until James came to pick the two up, and Katrin watched as the red-headed witch disappeared with her soulmate.
