twenty - three

Mina opened her eyes as she realized that she fell asleep at Hyunsuk's. But she was not on the couch since she worked too long without realizing that she fell asleep. She confusingly sat up on the bed as she rubbed her eyes and quietly started to walk towards the living room. Hyunsuk was nowhere to be seen as she saw that her computer was still on the desk, and there was an array of food that Hyunsuk made.

She rubbed her eyes and realized that Hyunsuk left her a new toothbrush and toothpaste with a towel so that she can wash her face and brush her teeth. She felt her cheeks warm up again as she cooled herself down by sitting at the table. The food was not plentiful like when she was at home but it was enough for her to eat which contained rice, some soup, some pieces of fried spam, and tofu. He had loads of money yet he was still eating the food that he had in his previous lifestyle.

Hyunsuk stared quietly at the table as Bomin patted his back assuringly. "I was wondering how things were going with you and Mina."

He felt his ears turn hot since he was slowly getting tired of talking with Bomin but he had no choice. Bomin was waiting with anticipation as he rested against the back of his chair as he asked with excitement, "Any new updates?"

Hyunsuk cleared his throat before he responded back with a slight agitation in his tone, "We are not doing anything yet since I don't know about her feelings."

Bomin's facial expression dropped before he placed a fake smile on his face as he asked with one of his eyebrows raised, "Why a sudden tone of anger? Anything bothering you?"

"I just don't know if I have the confidence to..."

"Change her heart? She's a girl. All girls have a thing where they can feel something for a guy. It's natural. She's not a robot. She's also a human being who has feelings in some ways."

Bomin rolled his eyes as he finished speaking since he was feeling the betrayal that Hyunsuk might not get the job done. He grunted under his breathe before he leaned over with a dark expression painting over his eyes and lips, "You will do what I paid you for. You realize that it's just a win-win situation. Why bother even thinking about her when you're doing your best? All you need to do is go on dates and give her a good time."

Hyunsuk's conscience hated the gut feeling of guilt whenever he wanted to do something nice and simple for Mina. He was getting super tired of putting on a show that doesn't even make sense anymore. Who was it really for?

He got up quietly before nodding in response as he made his way towards the door to exit. Bomin commented loudly before Hyunsuk actually left the office, "I got a few surprises for you as well. I hope you enjoy each and every one of them."

He shifted his position to lay comfortably against the back of his seat as his assistant closed the door soon as Hyunsuk made his way down the hall. He was humming to himself as he was curious to whether Mina woke up or not. Deal or not, he was still generally concerned with her since he knows the feeling of distance between the family members. He hoped that she woke up so that he can go into the bathroom without waking her up.

He stood in front of the elevator as he waited for the elevator to approach. Tapping his fingers against his watch, his attention was brought back to the opening doors as he was about to enter. He stopped in his tracks as he realized it was too late for him to leave the area as Lia was staring right at him as he entered. They were both heading down to the lobby, and he wasn't sure whether there would be another elevator approaching the floor once more.

He ignored her presence as he stood quietly in front without glancing at her at all. He really hated this feeling as Lia was staring at him nonstop for the entire ride. She first started to speak up quietly, "What brings you here?"

He doesn't reply at all but Lia knew that as she was expecting this response from him. She spoke up once more in order to get a reaction from Hyunsuk, "I'll be the endorsement model for this hotel. I was given an offer, and I knew I had to grab it since I'm trying to start new in Korea as well. If you're coming here often, I just wanted to let you know that I'll be here often as well."

Hyunsuk took a deep sigh before he responded back coldly, "None of my business."

The elevator arrived to the lobby, and he quickly made his way out of the lobby. But Lia quickly followed as she gently grabbed his wrist so that she can stop her from walking. The obvious clicks from her heels showed that she was uncomfortable walking at a fast pace to follow after him, and it made him uncomfortable to even worry for her. He turned around to look at her as she tried to plead with him quietly, "Can we please talk? Give me just a minute."

"I have to go soon."

Hyunsuk commented as they both sat down in the hotel's coffee shop. She offered to buy them coffee even if he declined to do so. It was least she can do in her mind since she left Hyunsuk without a proper goodbye. He stared outside to the streets where he saw people hugging and laughing as they did. The pedestrians knew nothing of how he wanted to leave the spot immediately. Breathing the same air as her made him feel sick to the bones, and he made sure to drink some coffee to wash it down.

"I know I haven't been a good person. I just wanted to come back to Korea and start fresh since life in America was quite tough. And I really didn't know that you were close with the people working here."

"Is that why you wanted to see me?"

"No, wait. And, Bomin told me that you were with one of the directing managers. I knew that I wanted to wait to see you since it's been forever."

"We aren't exactly in the relationship to talk things over, you know that Jisoo."

Lia's face grimaced as her old Korean name was mentioned as she replied back immediately after, "Jisoo...is not here anymore. My name is Lia. And I'm here to start fresh and hopefully just be on talking terms with you."

Hyunsuk scoffed lightly under his breathe since she was still self-serving about her own opinions. The exact reasons why he didn't actually stop her from leaving. He stood up quickly soon after as he grabbed his coat from the seat next to him as he replied with the same cold tone, "If Jisoo isn't here, then I'm not here. I don't think we can ever get back to regular speaking terms, Lia-shi. Now I must go."

Back then, Jisoo was the one to stand up and leave from Hyunsuk's eyes completely as his eyes were swollen from the tears. Now he was able to leave without any hesitation as Lia was left speechless at his sudden change in character that she was once knew.
