Chapter 16

The ride back was filled with a tense, quiet, awkwardness. You would be able to hear a pin drop with how much silence there was. Sick of the atmosphere, Amatsuki and Mafu tried starting a conversation to cheer them up and get everyone's mind off the awkwardness. Senra and Shima smiled as they caught on to the plan and join their chatter.

Soon the four of them were talking, their noisy and cheerful chatter filled the car. Well almost, three of them were silent as they heard the chatter surround them.

Soraru would sometimes glance at his brother next to him, who was just looking down with a sad look in his eyes. He could see some tear marks on his cheeks, making the older brother's heart break at the sight. I've never seen him this sad, other than that time.

While Soraru was focusing on driving, with some short glances at the younger, Sakata would join the chatter and give small replies when the others asked him something. He was hugging the plushies that Senra had given back to him before the drive started. He didn't want to talk at all but seeing his friends try to act cheerful made his join in just a bit. They really are the nicest people I know.

Urata was sitting next to Mafu, but didn't even bother trying to talk. His thoughts were a mess and he was mentally punching himself for whatever he did to upset the redhead. Soraru is really going to kill me. He grimaced at the thought, well he thought that he deserved it for once. He was hating himself for making someone as cheerful as Sakata upset, even though he didn't really understand how. He was trying to recall the events to see if he had said or done something that might've made the younger become upset. I can't think straight, my mind is a mess. Urata stayed silent during the whole ride, guilt eating him up. They finally made it back to the siblings' house as they had planned to go back to for awhile, but now they weren't sure if that was a good idea.

"We can just go home. I mean it's already late so let's part for the day." Shima said as Soraru just nodded.

The raven-haired looked at his brother practically rush into the house, not even bothering to say goodbye to the others. Soraru had never seen him this upset, usually when he was upset he'd still act happy to not make others worry, but this time there was no trace of happiness.

"Poor Sakata." Mafu mumbled to himself as he felt his heart break a bit at the sight of the redhead.

Just what happened between him and Urata? Mafu was confused because when he saw them together they were smiling but now it's like Sakata is avoiding the brunette. Urata is going to tell what happened even if I have to force him to.

"Well see ya Soraru." Senra waved goodbye to the raven-haired male, who returned the gesture although he barely even tried.

Shima said goodbye as he walked with Senra. Amatsuki was the next to leave.

"Bye bye Soraru. Hope Sakata is okay?" Amatsuki said the last part as a question, he wasn't sure what to say.

"We'll see you another time Soraru." Mafu said as he grabbed Urata's arm and pulled him.

The brunette didn't even bother trying to say goodbye, as if Soraru was going to talk to him, not after what happened. On their walk Mafu let go of Urata's arm and crossed his arms while giving the brunette a serious glare.

"What happened? You two were happy at first."

"........"

"Urata! What happened?! What did you do to make Sakata upset?!" Mafu was practically shouting at the brunette before he snapped back at the albino.

"I DON'T KNOW!"

Mafu was startled at Urata's shouting and shrunk back.

"W-What?"

"I said I don't know."

Urata looked at the ground as he was walking. He really didn't know at all but just thinking about how he hurt the redhead made his heart break into a million pieces. "I just........don't know." Mafu stared at his friend, he didn't know what to do. Is there a way I can help him?

"Did you say anything on the Ferris wheel that might've hurt him?" Mafu grimaced at his idea.

Great idea Mafu, if Urata doesn't even know what caused it then how would he know if it could've been something he said to have upset Sakata.

"..........."

Urata was thinking, trying to pull the grasp of his memory on something, something, that he could've said to hurt the younger. He eventually widened his eyes a bit as he remembered some parts of the events that occurred.

"He was stuttering as he was trying to say something but eventually just said that he's happy he meet us."

"Anything else?"

"........I said that he was great idiotic friend........."

Mafu widened his eyes as he realized why. Sakata was trying to confess and Urata unintentionally friend-zoned him. Sakata probably thinks Urata knew what he was trying to do and lightly turned him down.

The albino was starting to feel bad for Sakata as it seemed like he was rejected without Urata even saying it. Mafu became annoyed at the brunette and shouted again.

"YOU IDIOT!" Now it was Urata who jumped at Mafu's shouting. He got annoyed at being called an idiot.

"Oi! Don't call me idio—"

"Don't even finish that sentence cause right now you're the biggest idiot out there." Mafu's words stopped the brunette from talking as he stared at the albino in shock.

Mafu looked really angry with him, which was the first time he had seem the albino this angry.

"What do you even mean?"

Urata glared at his friend, who scowled at the brunette. He normally wouldn't get angry at his friends but Sakata was innocent and seeing him so upset made Mafu wish he could punch Urata.

"You seriously don't get it do you?"

Urata stared at Mafu's sad expression in confusion. Just what is happening today? Urata didn't know why Mafu was upset with him. They had been talking a lot that they didn't notice they stopped in front of Urata's house.

"Urata do you like Sakata?"

"No I don't. Why are you aski—"

"Stop lying to yourself." Mafu sighed before continuing, "do you ever feel your heart flutter around him? Like your heart is skipping a beat at the sight if him?"

"Well....." Urata's voice trailed off as Mafu continued asking him a question.

"Do you always blush even at the smallest things he does?"

"........."

Urata stood in silence as Mafu looked at him with a pitied expression.

"Urata, you really shouldn't be saying things if you don't even understand how others feel. Once you figure out your feelings and understand the way Sakata has been acting then you'll see why he was upset." Mafu then said goodbye to his friend and headed towards his own house.

Urata was standing in front on his house stunned, eventually he moved to enter his house. As soon as he closed the door, he stopped right in front of it as he was hit with realization. Urata stood there, stunned, shock filling his vein as he started to realize that the redhead was doing the same things Mafu had just asked him.

After being around Senra and Shima he for awhile, the way Sakata was acting was the same as them when they're together.

"S-S-Sakata l-likes me and I called him a friend." As soon as he said that, the very same thought that he kept pushing away finally hit him like a truck.

"And I-I-I........."

Urata choked out as he crouched down onto the floor, arms folded on his knees as he rested his head in them. He was upset with himself as the thought that had been trying to escape his mouth for awhile finally left.

"I like Sakata....."

Soraru entered their home and threw his keys on the counter. He looked up at the stairs leading towards their rooms with a sad look on his face. That goddam tanuki. Just what the fuck did he do?! Soraru was vivid at Urata for hurting his brother and causing him to cry.

But they were happy awhile before......ugh, just what exactly happened to make Sakata sad. He walked upstairs and stood in front of his brother's room. He could hear small sniffles coming from the room. Soraru wanted to do nothing more than open the door and rush to hug his brother, but when he tried the door was locked.

"Sakata?"

There was no response, Soraru felt like someone had just destroyed the only happiness he had. Soraru couldn't do anything about it now so he decided to head towards his own room and go to sleep. I'll try talking to him tomorrow, Soraru thought as he threw himself onto his bed. The night was filled with Sakata's small sobs.

It was the next day, Soraru woke up groggily and rubbed his eyes as he was faced with the summer sunshine. He went to his brother's room, not even bothering to fix his shirt, time to try again. He knocked on the door, and just like last night Sakata didn't reply.

"Sakata?"

"Sakata."

"Open the door."

"I know you're awake." Still no reply from the redhead.

Soraru was starting to get annoyed a bit but he pushed it down, Sakata didn't need to have another reason to become even more upset. An idea suddenly popped in his head. I'm sorry in advance Sakata.

"Looks like I'll leave then since you don't want me around. You probably hate me now so hope you have fun without me."

Soraru had his eyes closed and opened them as he heard the door being flung open, revealing a sad Sakata.

"Don't leave! I-I-I don't hate niichan. I ju—"

Sakata noticed the small smirk on his brother's face and stopped talking.

"Looks like you finally emerged from your tomb." Soraru joked before his smirk turned into a worried expression as he saw his brother's face.

"Are you okay?" His voice was filled with concern.

"You tricked me..." Sakata sadly pouted as he fell for his brother's words.

"You really think I'm going to leave you right now? With the state you're in."

"......no....."

Sakata was looking down, the raven-haired saw the plushie he was hugging with one of his arms, the puppy-like one. So I definitely know the damn tanuki is the cause. He was trying to think of a way to get him to cheer up.

"How about we go out to eat? I'm too lazy to make breakfast."

"......"

"You don't want to spend time with me?"

Soraru was hurt that his brother was rejecting his kindness and sighed as he had a solemn look.

"If that's the case then I'll just go to work and leave you be."

Soraru was about to turn around to get ready when a small, shaking voice stopped him. He turned his head to look at his brother struggling to say something.

"E-E-Eh? B-B-But........" after a long pause Sakata finally spoke again.

"I want to spend time with niichan."

Soraru patted the younger's head, resulting in the younger to look up. A faint smile began to appear on his face.

"Well then get ready so we can go."

Soraru walked to his room to get dressed as Sakata entered back into his, wiping the tear marks off his cheek. They left their house and were heading towards the destination.

"What do you want to eat?" Soraru asked the younger one who was looking down.

"Eh? But niichan wanted to eat so he should decide."

"Nope. Today we're doing what you want." Soraru's voice showed that there was no room to protest as Sakata just smiled at his brother.

Niichan is really worried about me, he's the best. Sakata was glad that he had a brother he could rely on.

They went to the cafe and had a small breakfast buffet consisting of omelette, pancakes and some sweets. Sakata was starting to cheer up as Soraru watched in amusement as his brother devoured the food on the plates.

After they finished their breakfast buffet, they were just walking around the town. Soraru was arguing with himself on whether or not he should ask him what happened. Although he wanted to do it later, he decided to ask. It's now or never.

"So what happened on the Ferris wheel?" Soraru spoke slowly as if his words would damage the younger.

The redhead was looking down at the ground, not saying anything. Soraru just stayed silent, he waited for him to answer. The person in question took a deep breath and finally spoke.

"I-I-I w-was t-t-trying t-to c-c-confess....." that was all Soraru needed to hear to understand.

So the tanuki probably rejected him without knowing and that's why Sakata's sad. Soraru looked at his brother with a sad expression, he felt bad for his brother, but he also somewhat felt bad for the brunette, who's probably beating himself up for it.

"Don't be upset at that."

Sakata stared at his brother, tears were slowly beginning to appear, Soraru continued speaking.

"Look I don't like the tanuki but I don't think he meant any harm. He probably didn't know what you were trying to do."

Sakata continued to stare at his brother before laughing sadly at himself.

"Y-Y-Yeah.....I-I-I'm just being a baby about it."

"I'm sure it's natural to be upset at a rejection. So don't worry about it, if anything it's his loss. Anyone should be glad to have know that you like them. You're perfect."

"Wwww."

Sakata was giggling at Soraru's words, of course niichan would say that. Sakata finally gave his brother his signature bright smile. Soraru was glad that Sakata was back to normal.

"Well let's see what else we can do today."

"I want to go the arcade!"
