(Red String/Soul Mates AU)

(Akko POV)

The red string.

They come out of no where.

They're said to be attached to your soulmate.

Some find their soul mates and live happily with them for the rest of their lives, others never meet theirs.

Mine just appeared last night.

"Akko, is that... A red string?!" Lotte asks, stars in her eyes as Sucy chuckles beside her.

I slowly nod my head, feeling a slight blush creep onto my face at the sudden turn of attention to me.

"Woah, dude! That's awesome!" Amanda says, slapping me roughly on the back with a grin.

"That's easy for you guys to say, you've already found your soulmates!" I groan, guesturing towards Amanda's girlfriend Hanna as well as Lotte and Sucy.

They all blush and turn away, embarrassed that I had called them out.

"Well you only just got It! There's still time to find yours! I know you will!" Lotte says, placing a hand on my shoulder.

I smile at her as she continues, "Who knows, maybe it's someone you already know! That's how it usually works, right?"

I nod, feeling a sense of determination course through me.

"You know what? Yeah! I'm totally gonna find them if it's the last thing I do!" I pump my fist in the air, stumbling back down the stairs into someone.

I rub my aching head, looking up to see Diana Cavendish, the school's top idol, lying next to me at the foot of the stairs.

I jump to my feet, brushing myself off as I hold out a hand to her.

"I am so sorry! Please forgive me!" I say with a facepalm.

She reaches her hand towards me as we both freeze.

There, on Diana's wrist, is a bright red string.

Coincidentally, it was attached to mine.

I blush as Diana and I lock eyes, a blush dusting her cheeks as well.

She clears her throat, taking my hand as I pull her up.

"T-Thank you." she mumbles, quickly walking away.

I stare as she starts running before turning a corner, out of my sight.

I look down to see my string had stopped glowing as I turn to face my friends who were making their way down the stairs.

"Did you just see that..?" I say, glancing back the way Diana had run.

"Yeah. Diana Cavendish, eh?" Amanda says slyly with a smirk, nudging my side with her elbow.

I blush. Of course everyone knew I'd  had a huge crush on Diana for as long as I can remember. But I had never, in a million years, thought she could be my soulmate.

(Diana POV)

I wake up with only one thing on my mind:

Atsuko Kagari.

My soulmate is Atsuko- freaking- Kagari.

I slam my pillow over my face as images of the gorgeous girl danced into my mind.

Why did it have to be her? She probably doesn't even like me, like girls!

I sigh, shoving the pillow deeper into my face.

I had been avoiding her for a few weeks, ever since our string had connected.

I groan, standing to get ready for another day of school with Akko.

I quickly glance around the hallway, making sure Akko was no where near me, as I made a bee line for the cafeteria for lunch.

"Diana!" Akko calls, quickly making her way towards me.

Sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t... I think to myself, quickly running the opposite direction into the courtyard.

I hide in a nearby bush as I wait silently for her to pass.

After a few minutes I slowly peek my head out to see if she's gone.

I'm met face-to-face with Akko standing mere inches away from me.

"Diana." she says sternly, crossing her arms.

"Y-Yes, Akko?" I stutter, fear causing my voice to crack a bit.

"Why are you avoiding me? Are you upset that were soul mates? Am I not good enough for you?" she asks, tears pricking her eyes as she attempts to look angry.

"N-No Akko that's not it at all!" I say, shaking my head violently.

"Then what is it, huh? You must hate me or something! Is that what it is?" she turns her head, tears silently streaming down her face now.

I stand, taking a step towards her and hugging her close.

I feel her tense for a moment before she gives in, sobbing into my shirt.

"Akko..." I begin, stroking her hair gently.

She looks up at me with puffy eyes, silently urging me to continue.

I take a deep breath, turning my face away as I feel myself heat with blush.

"I really really really like you. I thought you would be unhappy that we were soul mates, so I thought it would be better if I stayed out of your way. I didn't know if you felt even remotely the same way. I hope you do.." I finish, shutting my eyes tight as I wait for her to answer.

Suddenly I feel something warm and wet press against my lips.

I open my eyes to see Akko standing on her toes, kissing me deeply.

I wrap my arms tightly around her waist, happily kissing back.

She pulls away, staring deeply into my eyes.

"I love you so much, Diana Cavendish. More than you could ever know. I'm so happy to be your soul mate." she says quietly with a smile.

"I love you too!" I say, kissing her once again.

When we pull away this time we notice our strings glowing brightly, signaling we had found one another.

I pick her up and spin her around, giggling happily at the greatest moment of my life.
