2: Long-Lost

Choco Pie??

Could-?

No, it couldn't be.

But what if..?

It made sense...

But, like, it didn't at the same time.

???

It could've been anybody. You had no reason to think it could be him.

But there was only one person on the face of this planet who called you that.

No, your heart refused to believe it.

Your brain thought differently.

And your stomach growled at the two, telling them to pick a darn side already so you could go home and eat.

"Choco Pie? Is that really you?"

You were going to have to look up, sooner or later. You tore your eyes from the tiles and reluctantly tilted your head upward.

And came face to face with your long-lost brother.

"OH MY GOD!!"

It was all you could say through your sobs. "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my g-"

He cut you off with a big bear hug, and you sobbed into his sweater. Oh my god, your heart is, your heart is, oh my g-

Wait.

"OH MY GOD, YOU FREAKING BUTT!" you exploded and pushed him as hard as you could. He barely even budged under the attack, which made you even angrier.

"What? Aren't you happy to see your favorite big brother again?" He smirked.

"YOU'RE MY ONLY BIG BROTHER, BUT... UGH! YOU COULD'VE BEEN DEAD FOR ALL WE FREAKING KNEW! I CALLED YOU EVERY FREAKING DAY THE FIRST MONTH AFTER YOU DROPPED OFF THE FREAKING MAP AND WE WERE SO- ARRGGHHH!!"

"Y/N, people are staring. You don't want to-"

"EIGHT FREAKING YEARS!" you screeched on, pummeling his chest. "THAT'S HOW LONG I HAVEN'T FREAKING SEEN YOU, PARK JI-FREAKING-MIN! AND WE HAVEN'T HEARD FROM YOU IN EXACTLY THREE YEARS AND SEVEN MONTHS! THAT'S A WHOLE FORTY-THREE FREAKING MONTHS! YES, I FREAKING COUNTED BECAUSE I JUST CARE THAT FREAKING MUCH! WE WERE THIS CLOSE TO PLANNING YOUR FUNERAL ALREADY BUT YOU'VE JUST BEEN CHILLING IN SEOUL THE WHOLE FREAKING TIME LITERALLY LESS THAN A FREAKING HOUR AWAY AND-"

He slammed a hand over your mouth. "Hey, I'm part of the freaking group you're applying for!"

You stopped screaming, but the tears didn't cease their flowing and your eyebrows remained knitted. He better have a good story.

"One, I haven't been 'chilling in Seoul' the entire time. We've gone on world tours, and those take an insane amount of time and effort. Two, we're, like, one of the biggest K-pop groups in the world. That title doesn't come without work, you know. We're working around the clock, hardly getting any sleep, constantly writing, practicing, goddammit Y/N you don't even know how hard it is!" He paused and ran a hand through his cherry-red hair, (even you had to admire how well the color suited him, as angry as you were). "Just... I know there's not really an excuse for not contacting you guys, but I knew you were safe and well, so, for now, I have to put BTS first."

"You've been putting them first for the past eight freaking years," you mumbled, although most of the anger was gone from your voice.

"Park Y/N. Look at me."

You met his eyes, and you suddenly realized how tired they looked. They were the same ones that you remembered, but they were also completely different. Wearier, less of the sparkle that you were so used to.

It kind of broke your heart.

"This is my dream," he whispered, his voice so soft your ears had to strain to hear it. "To become an idol, to have people cheering my name as I step onto the stage. But it needs work. Lots of it."

He straightened up. "So, I'm sorry, but it was virtually impossible for me to contact you."

You sighed. Jimin had won.

You ran your eyes up and down his figure. He had gotten taller since you last saw him, and paler. And much, much leaner, which made you a little concerned, but you guessed that was the standard nowadays.

"Where did your cheeks go?" you couldn't help blurting out.

"I could ask the same about you, Choco Pie." He poked your left cheek.

"Whatever. You sound like a proper Seoulian now, it's weird."

"What? Oh, you mean I have a Seoul accent. Mm, yeah. You still have your Busan accent, though."

"No, duh. I never left." You narrowed your eyes at him. It was so weird to see him like this, it was comparable to driving on the opposite side of the car when visiting other countries. "Are you sure you're the same Park Jimin? Wait, I know."

You took one of his hands and held your own next to it so that your pinkies were next to each other and doubled over, laughing.

"Y/N! Y/N, Y/N, stop it, Y/N!" Jimin hissed, snatching his hand back.

"I'm sorry, but it's so tiny! Ah, my stomach hurts... it's just too funny..." You stood up again and dabbed your eyes with your sleeve, glad that your mascara was waterproof.

"Stop. It grew by 2 millimeters," he sniffed.

"Wow, how impressive! Did you measure every day?" you sniggered.

"Stooop."

"Okay, now I'm sure you're my brother." You couldn't wipe the grin off your face. "I-"

And then it registered.

"You? Work? For BTS?" you asked, unable to hide the incredulity in your voice. His eyebrows shot up.

"You didn't know? Haven't you read the job description or looked at a picture?"

Heat flooded your cheeks. "Well, maybe I didn't get to that part yet. And how did you know I was applying for the job?"

"It's the only position Big Hit has open right now, and I don't think you're here to look for food."

"Oh."

There was a second of awkward silence before something else popped into your head.

"I thought you said you were a member of the Bulletproof Boy Scouts?" you asked, snickering at the name. Jimin rolled his eyes.

"It is, I guess. Bang. Tan. Sonyeondan. B-T-S."

"Ah. It sounds much less, how should I say this-"

"That's enough, Y/N. Good luck though, since we have a lot of girls drooling over us already." He flipped his hair. You scoffed, slapping his shoulder playfully.

"As if I'll ever drool over your little boy scouts."

Jimin's face contorted into a wicked grin that kind of scared you but also made you want to laugh because it looked ridiculous on him. "Oh, you just might."

"Nope. Never. Ever. Not in a million years."

He looked like he was about to say something else, but decided not to. "Well, good luck with that as well. I hope you win, 'cause it'll be nice to have my little sis tailing me like some lost puppy again." He ruffled your hair, causing you to groan.

"If anyone's a puppy, you are. And I spent a full two minutes on that! Ugh. Now you'll have to help me pick my papers up."

"As long as I don't have to do anything harder."

The two of you got the job done in under a minute which you appreciated, since it would've taken you a long time to gather the papers that were scattered everywhere.

"Well, I hope I'll see you around," Jimin said, handing you a stack of papers.

"Yeah. I hope." Wow, you sounded so sad. Let's... "Wait, is Antarctica a stop for your tours?"

He grinned. "I'll pass that on to the boss. There might be something he can do about it."

"If only you could do something about the job," you sighed.

"Yeah. Well, bye-bye, Choco Pie." He pulled you into a hard hug again, making you almost suffocate on the soft cashmere, but you didn't mind. It was something so achingly familiar and warm, the hug, that you wished you could stop the clock for just a minute. It felt almost like you were back in 2012 again, hugging your brother goodbye at the airport...

Like all good things, it was over all too soon.

"Bye, Chim." You waved, biting your lip to keep the tears from further ruining your makeup. You pulled your purse higher, sniffing, and started walking.

But a loud gasp stopped you in your tracks. You turned around to see Jimin running at full speed towards you. He skidded to a stop in front of you and grabbed your arms.

"Oh my god Y/N, I just had the most brilliant idea ever!"

"What, what, what? Tell me." Oh gosh, this is starting to sound a lot like the time that Jimin had "the most brilliant" idea to call the police to "return it to its rightful owner," the 'it' being a 1 won coin. (Your parents were not happy to find a policeman yelling at you through the phone.)

Hopefully, this idea wasn't stupid (you would even settle for wasn't as stupid), but you could never know with Jimin.

"I can write a recommendation letter for you!" He was almost bouncing with excitement. "It'll boost your chances by, like, googolplex. That's a number, right? Anyway, you'll almost be guaranteed to have the job!"

Wow, an actually smart idea!

You told him that. He scoffed softly and shook his head, but the mile-wide grin didn't leave. "What do you think? It's such a good idea! Say yes say yes say-"

"Don't have to say it thrice." You returned the smile, unable to hide it any longer. "Of course! Why didn't I think of that?"

"Because you're not bright enough."

"Oh, shut up." You punched his shoulder again. He stuck out his lower lip.

"Y/NNNNN, that hurrrrrrtt," he wailed, even though you knew very well it did not hurt one bit.

"Stop whining and write the darn letter!" you huffed. "Do you think you can get it done by the day after tomorrow?"

"Procrastination runs in our family, but I'll try," he said, smirking. You almost punched him again, but you remembered that this guy was the ticket to the job, and if you killed him he wouldn't be able to write the letter.

"Ugh, fine. Send it to me beforehand so I can make sure you don't say anything stupid." You added the last part quickly. He rolled his eyes but nodded. "Okay, well, see you around, Chim."

"'Kay, see you later, for sure, unless you messed it up with Haeun." Jimin shot you a smile, ruffled your hair again, (ignoring your squeals of protest) and walked in the opposite direction of where you were headed. You patted down your hair, shared a secret smile with yourself, and walked towards the entrance.

You rolled your eyes even though you knew he couldn't see it and tossed your phone onto your desk. Climbing up the ladder to your loft bed, you flopped onto the soft sheets and sighed contentedly. You now had a huge advantage over the other candidates, and you think you left a good impression on Haeun. You didn't want to celebrate before you even reached the finish line, but it couldn't hurt to hope...

----

"Uhmuhguhh, who'scallingahdishour..." you mumble-groaned, pulling your pillow over your head to muffle the incredibly annoying ringing. Sunlight was streaming through the blinds, but that didn't mean it was time to wake up yet! Your clock told you that it was 7:54 in the morning. A reasonable time for other people to be up, but almost unthinkable for you, now that you were out of college. Plus, it was a Saturday! Ugh.

You yawned and rubbed your eyes, then started to make your way down your ladder. The ground always seemed farther away than usual in the morning. You finally made it down and picked up your phone.

"Unghmm?"

"Did you just crawl out of bed, Choco Pie?" Your brother's teasing voice blasted out of the speakers. You jammed a finger on that lower volume button before answering.

"Chim? Mmyeah." You sounded half-dead, which was what you felt like inside, but you didn't really care. "Now hurry up so I can get back to sleep. It's so early..."

"Eight in the morning is not early, Y/N," Jimin scoffed. "What happened to waking up early to watch TV before Mom or Dad woke up?"

"Um, I just got out of college, so don't even," you nearly growled.

"That was last year, if my math is correct, which is not 'just,' bUT I can totally understand!" He added the last part quickly, which made you chuckle a bit.

"You better understand. Now tell me what's so important or I'm going back to bed."

"Don't go so fast, because I have a feeling you want to know what your job status is."

Ahh! What's going to happen to Y/N? Is she going to get the job? Why didn't she get an email about it? Did Jimin have anything to do with it? Hmm... let's go ask the next chapter when it comes out on Friday!
Thanks for staying with me.
💜 y'all!
