15: A Chance

"OHMYGODJUNGKOOK-"

Jungkook closed his eyes and held up a hand to stop you. "Yes, it's me, now kindly shut your mouth please and thank you."

You stared at him with wide eyes. "W-why are you here?"

"Uh, it's my room? I have a right to be here, don't you think?"

You couldn't think of any snarky comebacks for that one.

Jungkook opened his eyes, which promptly ran up and down your figure.

"Nice outfit, by the way." He smirked, gesturing to the towel wrapped around you. "Blue looks good on you."

Your jaw dropped open and your cheeks burned. Wow. He really went there.

"You-!"

You stopped yourself before you could say unholy things. Making up your mind, you turned around and walked back into the bathroom, then closed the door in his face. Unfortunately, Jungkook stuck in his slipper-clad foot before it could slam shut, blocking you from closing it fully.

"Tsk, tsk." He pinned you with his coffee-colored gaze through the crack of the door. "That's not very nice of you."

You simply slammed the door repeatedly on his foot.

"Okay, Y/N, enough," he said, blocking the door in a way that rendered your efforts useless. You didn't bother to try taking his hands off because you knew your noodle arms stood no chance.

You brushed past him and tried the door to the hallway.

Locked, of course, from somewhere outside.

You turned back to face him, crossing your arms. "Well, what do you want me to do, then? To get out of here?" You glared at him with the most intensity as you could muster. Which wasn't very much, but you tried.

"Nothing. I just want to hang out with you for a day without you freaking out every time I get within a 20-foot radius," he said, flashing a bunny smile.

"Don't we have work today?" you asked.

"It's Saturday."

"Oh."

"Well, settle down, 'cause you'll be in here for a while," he said, walking over to his bed and flopping backward.

"How? There's nothing to do. I don't even have my phone. And I'm only in a towel! I'll... I'll call the other boys!" You tried to sound and look threatening.

"Go ahead," he said, not looking up. "They already know and support because they want you to hate my guts less."

"What about my clothing problem?" you tried.

"Closet's over there." Jungkook gestured vaguely to somewhere behind you, where you found some sliding doors to said closet.

"But... but those are your clothes!"

"Why do you say it like it's the most disgusting thing you've ever heard?" Jungkook asked. "It's not like I'm asking you to wear my dirty clothes. Just take a shirt and shorts or something."

You made a face and sat down on the floor, unwilling to wear his clothes or do anything at all.

It was until you started shivering uncontrollably and your towel felt like it had been dumped in ice water (a.k.a. about half a minute, because you didn't have a very strong will) that you finally trudged to the closet.

"What can I wear?" you mumbled.

He looked up. "What did you say?"

"I said, what can I wear?" you said through gritted teeth.

"Hey, calm down, I didn't do anything," he said, holding up his hands. "And you can take anything that'll fit."

You huffed and turned back to the closet, grabbed a blue t-shirt and a random pair of shorts, and walked into the bathroom to change into them.

You felt much better, now that you were in dry clothing, but it was still uncomfortable because your arms and legs were exposed to the cold air. The too-big clothing comparable to elephant skin wasn't helping, either.

"You look so cute in that!" Jungkook exclaimed as you stepped out of the bathroom. "Looks like you're drowning in fabric. Such a squish, uwu."

"Ugh, stop," you scoffed, rolling your eyes. "And... did you literally say 'uwu' out loud?"

"Yes. It's uwu-worthy."

"I- I'm not gonna even question you anymore." You looked around. "So, what am I supposed to do for the rest of the day? Sit around and wait until you feel like releasing me?"

"Nah, I gotchu."

And the next thing you knew, your phone was flying through the air, heading straight for you.

You reached out and caught it, fumbled and dropped it, then caught it again before it could hit the ground.

"This is expensive, you know!" you huffed, glaring at him.

"You live in the same house as millionaires, Cupcake. There's no need to worry; we've got you covered."

"You sound like you're trying to sell me insurance," you muttered, sitting down on the ground and typing in your PIN.

"Do I? That was totally what I was going fo- aHH NO!"

"Wh-what happened?!" you exclaimed, jumping up and looking around at the alarm in his voice.

"You're sitting on the floor! That's illegal," he said matter-of-factly. "You're gonna catch a cold or something, and that's going to suck for you."

"I... huh?"

"I mean, come over here. It's warm." Jungkook scooted over, patting the space on the bed beside him.

"What? No! I don't care if I'm going to catch a cold; I'm not going anywhere near you." You turned your back to him and crossed your arms.

"Come on, Y/N. You're going to catch a cold. I can see your goosebumps from all the way over here."

"No."

"You'll give in sooner or later anyway, so better be sooner than later."

"No. I'm strong. I can take it."

A minute later, you found yourself sliding in and grumbling under your breath something about only for a minute.

"Knew you'd come around." He grinned and moved over to make more room.

"Only for a minute," you repeated, shivering at the change between the cool air in the room and the toasty blankets. "Why is your room so darn cold?"

"It's the same temperature as the rest of the house," Jungkook said, raising an eyebrow. "Which, may I add, was last adjusted by you?"

"Oh, shut up." You pushed his arm, making him laugh.

His bed was a carbon copy of yours, which you had come to adore, with plush pillows and a cloud-like mattress that practically screamed "GO TO SLEEP NOWW." He'd also added a super-soft pale yellow throw blanket that made you want to snuggle in and sleep for the rest of the season.

You yawned and sighed and flipped through Pinterest for some memes.

You were only a few minutes into it when you felt a weight ease onto your left shoulder. You made a noise that was a cross between "huh" and "what" and looked over.

It was Jungkook, with his eyes closed and his head resting on your shoulder.

"J-Jungkook?" you whispered, half of you wanting to violently shake him off and run to the other side of the room and the other half... really... liking... ???

Akkskajisjejskakajsjhakn.

Without opening his eyes, Jungkook murmured, "Sing for me, Noona."

"What?" you asked, even though you heard what he said.

He didn't respond.

You sighed, looking away, the two halves of you arguing incessantly inside.

You didn't want to do it because of... you know... but he looked so small and vulnerable that you couldn't believe it was the same guy that had stood on the 20XX Prom stage. Was he really the same person, or had he changed?

Or... was he never really that person at all?

"What song?" you asked in a barely audible voice, so soft you could hardly hear yourself. "What song do you want me to sing?"

"Something I'd like," was his reply.

"That's specific." You rolled your eyes, but thought about it anyway.

Maybe... maybe now was your chance.

Every moment you spent awake, you wanted to do something, anything, nice for him, but you were too afraid he might take it the wrong way. Or you, yourself, might take it the wrong way.

Well, now was the time. He probably wouldn't even remember it afterward. He's hardly even awake now, anyway. And it was just a favor, nothing personal, so there was hardly room for you to mess up and do something you'd regret.

Besides, you sucked at singing, and that would probably make him ask you to stop halfway through, so it wouldn't last too long. That made you feel a bit better.

Okay.

You were going to do it.

He butted your cheek with his head and said something that sounded a lot like, "You're a duck," but was probably more along the lines of, "Hurry up."

"I'm thinking," you grumbled. "Give me a few seconds, I'll start soon."

You still had no idea what song he liked.

It was said that people subconsciously block out certain memories, things that were too painful to remember. That's probably why you were at a total blank for what he liked.

Like, you literally could not remember a single thing in the one-ish year you spent together.

You sort of regretted it now, since you knew absolutely nothing about his music preferences. Where could you look? Ah, maybe his room could give some clues!

You glanced around, and the first thing your eyes fell on was a black, rectangular frame containing three pictures.

The first picture was a picture of Jungkook and his older brother Junghyun, standing in front of a silver car and acting all silly. They were in a parking lot, and there seemed to be a lake or ocean of some sort behind all the cars.

The second picture was a dazzling sunset on a beach, red and gold and purple streaking across the sky and bleeding onto the sparkling waves. If you looked closely, there were two tiny specks of black in the water that looked somewhat humanoid. Probably Jungkook and his brother again.

The last picture was set inside what looked like a bedroom, with a large window with an enormous moon nearly filing up the inky sky in the background. In it was Jungkook, Junghyun, and... you?

Huh?

Jungkook's face was huge and took up most of the photo, implying that he was the one taking it. Junghyun was sitting in an armchair, holding two ring-shaped chips over his eyes like glasses. You were holding a banana in one hand and seemed to be caught mid-jump. All of you were sporting hideous rainbow bathrobes, complete with dripping hair and huge grins.

Oh.

My.

God.

"PEPERO! Peperopeperopeperopepero!"

"What is it?" You rolled your eyes but beamed, turning around to face him. Jungkook was racing towards you, but seemed hardly out of breath when he arrived. "And why must you scream your pet name for me every time you want my attention?"

"Because you're even cuter when you blush." He grinned, then leaned down and pecked your cheek. That just made you blush even harder.

"What's so important that you had to run down the hallway screeching at the top of your lungs, though?" you said. "Next period is in a few minutes so hurry, please."

"Okay, okay! So, I just had the most BRILLIANT idea of taking you to... you'll never guess... Jeju Island! Over the long weekend. Super romantic, right? We've never actually gone on a honeymoon yet, you know, so it'll be super fun!"

"But we're not married, Kook."

"I think you mean 'But we're not married YET, Kook,'" he said, raising his voice to a high-pitched squeal to impersonate you. You rolled your eyes and lightly hit him with your shoulder.

"Ah, Pepero! Anyway, yeah, but we'll be married soon anyway, and I want to take an early honeymoon with the bunch of money I got for winning that one singing contest. So, what do you say? Just you and me... and Junghyun hyung. Just in case we get attacked, so he can protect us with his awesome karate skills. Hurry up and say yes before I spend it on snacks or something."

"Really? Jeju Island?" You'd never been outside of Busan, and your friends were raving about how beautiful the island was. But you still weren't sure. "I dunno, Kook..."

His excited expression fell and your heart shattered into a million pieces.

"Ahh, jk, JK! Alright, look." You took his head in your hands and stood on your toes to give him a tiny kiss on the nose. "I'll ask my parents."

"You will?" Jungkook brightened up a tiny bit.

"Of course. They'll probably say yes, since they've been telling me that I've turned into a light-despising vampire and are trying to get me out of the house." You smiled gently and kissed his nose again, mostly because your heart hurt to see him sad. "Anything to make you happy, Kook."

"Ah! That's so awesome!" He beamed, clapping his hands excitedly, and the pieces of your heart melted together again. "We can bring your camera and take really cool pictures! And hyung's new car, you know, the super shiny silver one? We can take that too, because I feel cool not having to take a bus everywhere and the ferry fees for cars aren't too bad. And we can bring snacks and eat on the beach and wear matching bathrobes from discount stores..."

"Y/N?"

"Oh, sorry," you said, a little disoriented from your sudden push back to reality. "What was that?"

He half-opened an eye. "Really?"

"Ah, okay." You tore your eyes away from the pictures and looked around for something less painful and more helpful as to what Jungkook wanted to listen to.

There. A large poster of Jungkook's celebrity crush that he would never get over, ever, in his entire life.

"You can stop me if I sound too bad," you said helpfully. He didn't make a move, so you took that as your cue to start.

You swallowed and cleared your throat, suddenly nervous, and began to sing.

Happy late Thanksgiving boos! And happy Black Friday! I hope y'all got that giant TV you were waiting all year for haha. I actually didn't do any shopping today (unless you count a smoothie but yeah).

But omggg. Y/N's in they same room as JK. Alone 👀 So far, all they've done is get in the same bed together.

bUT THAT'S ALL I CAN REALLY SHOW WITHOUT UHH THIS IS PG-13 HEHEHE

What'll happen next? What's JK trying to do now? Who is this mysterious "celebrity crush?" Will Y/N cause JK to lose his hearing with her singing??
