Something Like Normal. VIII.

I knew Jocelyn wanted to talk about it. She had been keeping her distance from me but looked confused and like something on her mind because she was mumbling and barley paid attentions to the movie.

We waited on my host parents porch for someone to pick her up and she still hasn't a said a words to me. I sighed heavily and jumped off the banister, ''Okay, Jocelyn, say something. I know you want to.''

She got up from the swing, ''Why'd you kiss me?"

''I always kiss you.'' I shrugged.

She scoffed, ''On the cheek, never my mouth. You were acting weird back there to.''

''I. . .'' I didn't know really how to answer that. I could tell her so many excuses, but she'll never believe me. I knew it was stupid, but I didn't know what else to do. I couldn't let her see my father on the screen. ''I just wanted to see what it felt like.''

''Felt like?" she questioned and I nodded. ''Feel what?"

''I don't know. . .Just to feel what kissing you like. It didn't mean anything.'' I said and she looker hurt. I quickly regretted saying and wished I could take it back, but I didn't excuse myself why I said it. I can't let her know my feelings.

''Oh.'' she said, looking away for a moment. ''You had to do it there? With people around?''

''There wasn't allot.'' I shrugged. ''I'm sorry I did it, it won't happen again.''

''Good.'' she said. ''It made things awkward.''

I used that to my advantage and stepped towards her, ''It did make it awkward and I don't want that. I want us to stay same goofy friends we are. I don't want anything to change and ruin our friendship.''

She gave me a confused look, ''Yuri? Relax,'' she smiled and put her hands on my arms. ''It was just a kiss, we can forget about it. Nothing can make me stop being friends with you, no matter what.''

I smiled down at her and she hugged me. I wrapped my arms around her and felt this bad feeling in my chest.

''So,'' she said as she pulled back. ''How was it anyways?'

I gave her a confused look, ''How was what?"

''The kiss." she said, blushing. ''You said you wanted to know what it felt like. How was it?"

''Oh,'' I said. ''Uh. . .let's not make things awkward talking about it.''

She raised an eyebrow, ''How is it a awkward, you're the only one that knows the answer.'' she shrugged. She looked worrier now, ''Oh, my God, you hated it? My kisses sucks?''

''What? No.'' I said quickly shaking my head. It wasn't bad, the bad thing was that I like it. Jocelyn has full nice soft lips that she prides herself in using chap sticks all the time even though her lips aren't dry.''Jocelyn, it doesn't matter.''

''It does to me because if I'm a bad kisser, I'll never want to kiss another guy. Buck kissed me, but I never asked so I probably sucked for him to.'' she said.

''What? Jocelyn, it wasn't even kissing. Just more like a long peck.'' I said and reached out to touch her, but she stepped back. Why is she freaking out so much about it? I heard a car coming up, so I turned an saw her mom car. I quickly looked back at Jocelyn, ''Are you really mad at me because I won't answer that question?"

''Yes.'' she said quickly walking away and I hit my head and cursed at myself as I heard the car door to open and slam close. Why couldn't I just answer?

. . .

This morning when I checked my phone, I saw the date on my calendar. Only a good friend--even though I really wished I didn't know this about Jocelyn--will know his female friend time of the month. No wonder Jocelyn was so paranoid and moody last night.

I knocked on Jocelyn parents house and held the box of cupcakes in my other hand. The door opened and Jocelyn mom answered. Lynn was a nice women. She was plump around the stomach a little and Jocelyn got her warm brown eyes from her. I remember when I came here and I met her parents at the airport, she quickly hugged me and welcomed me. I quickly knew she liked me.

Her dad was another story. I was after all very close to his daughter. What father would like that?

''Yuri!'' she excitedly and I hugged her.

I smiled, ''Jocelyn home?''

''Yeah.'' she said and opened the door wider for me to come in.

I walked in and Jocelyn quickly covered her face that was peeking from the quilt blanket as she laid on the couch. I walked over and sat on the coffee table. I reached out and grabbed the blanket, tugging at it. She moaned angrily and I sighed as I stopped.

''I bring cupcake.'' I said and she stayed quiet. I rolled my eyes, ''Chocolate with peanut butter icing.''

She hesitated, but threw the blanket off and snatched the box from me. She sat up and crossed her legs. She had on sweats, a T-shirt, and her brown hair was in a bun. Her skin was blotchy a little and she looked grumpy.

''I would like a thank you.'' I said and she gave me a look.

She looked behind me and groaned since her mom was behind me, ''Thank you, Yuri.'' she said and gave me a fake smile.

I chuckled as her mom walked into the kitchen and I moved beside her. When I felt like her mother was being noisy when I heard the sink water go on, I looked at Jocelyn who was liking the icing off.

''I'm sorry about last night.'' I said and she stopped, hesitated, and looked up at me. ''I was being a jerk. I was just nervous last time.'' I whispered to her.

''Nervous?'' she questioned. ''Why?''

I shrugged, ''I freak out when it comes to stuff like that. If I told you the kiss was not that bad, I did not want to risk anything.''

Her mean look disappeared and she smiled, then brought the cupcake back to her mouth, ''I knew I wasn't horrible.'' she said and I chuckled.

''So you're not mad at anymore?'' I asked her and she shook her head, giving me a real smile. '"Good.'' I reached into the box and she smacked my hand away, ''Ow? What?"

''You got them for me, they're mine.'' she said.

''You can't eat all four.'' I told her. She scoffed, but held the box out and let me have one. ''Thank you.'' I said sarcastically and she stuck her tongue out.

. . .

''So what do you miss about home right now?'' Jocelyn asked as we walked threw the cornfields. It was still warm, so the corn stocks were still high and alive. Jocelyn likes to walk threw them  in the summer and since it was still warm, the sun gleamed down on her, making her look pretty even know she feels like crap.

''Um, I think just speaking the language.'' I said and she gave me a confused look. ''I'm speaking so much more English than Russian. I swear I'm forgetting my language.'' I said as I chuckled.

''You mumble allot in Russian.'' she said. ''I wish I could speak as many languages as you do. I barley managed Italian, which is why I'm glad I met you. I would not have made it.'' she chuckled. ''You're really smart, Yuri.''

''You are saying that as if you just learned that.'' I said and she rolled her eyes. I took her hand and brought up to my chest, ''What do you miss about Rome?''

''Hmmm, the pizza.'' she chuckled. ''The Colosseum, the buildings, just everything. It's why I've always wanted to go there. So much history there, so much happened in Rome--in Italy. Moscow next.'' she said as placed her head on my shoulder.

I stopped and turned to face her, ''Remember when we first met and I took you to that fountain?'' I asked and nodded. ''What did you wish for?'

She smiled and chuckled, ''Why does it matter?''

''Just a question.'' I said.

"Well. . .that I could see you again as cheesy as it sounds.'' she said. ''I thought at the time that we would never see each other again. Then I saw you at the academy and well, the wish came true I guess.'' she chuckled. ''I kind of hope you wouldn't see me though, I thought you would try and embarrass me in front of your friends for the soda. But no, you came up and started talking to me as if you knew me forever.''

I grinned, ''So I am not cursed after all. I have long completed that wish.'' I chuckled and she rolled her eyes, smiling. I took her hand and we continued our walk.
