~21~
A month had gone by since Paisley Park was turned upside down and all of Prince's camp was put through some type of turmoil. Prince opened his home to all who sustained an injury and accommodated for whoever needed it. Rene who was shot in the back was lucky to walk with a cane temporarily. The bullet missed her spine by less than an inch and Andre was her saving grace. Finding her when he did and getting her help was the best thing he was able to do to save her life. Cat was healing from her stab wounds. She had been stitched up for a while and as of two weeks ago she was able to get her sutures removed and could as she would complain about soak in a epsom salt bath and drown out the world for a few hours. Regan was happy to offer her help around the house with whatever everyone needed. Morris, Andre, Dez, and Jerome were helping Tre put the final touches on the renovated nursery which was now equipped with 24 hour surveillance cameras both inside the room and just outside of the door. There was even a small desk out in the hall next to the doorway where security can sit during the night if Prince saw it necessary. Carlyn felt as though it was all a bit much but Prince was more than willing to make sure that his new love of his life was going to be protected at all costs.
"Daddy seriously! Tre and I can keep her with us in our bedroom! To be honest we should be at home." Carlyn stayed as she followed behind her dad walking away from the nursery.
"Carlyn I don't want to hear it. You arent leaving outside of these gates until I know that all of this is completely over." Prince scolded.
"Dad I'm fully grown with a whole husband now. Im not 16 anymore! You don't have to treat me like a child!" Carlyn scolded back.
"I don't care! You are staying here and that's final!"
The scowl on his face was no match for Carlyn and her views on life anymore. She was determined to make her dad well aware of what she wanted and how she wanted it. She was becoming more and more headstrong just like he his and he knew it. The two had a two minute long stare down in the hall as Regan finally was growing annoyed with how Prince was acting towards his only daughter.
"Alright now Skipper you've made your point now get over it and let's go worry about something else." She said as she raced by and grabbed him by the arm nearly taking him off balance.
"Stay out of this woman! Hey where are you taking me?!?!? Let me go this conversation isn't over young lady!" He shouted as he was still being dragged away against his will.
"Let it go Prince!" Regan shouted at him.
"No! Let it go my left arm! Seriously let go of my arm you are hurting me! How strong are you?!?!?"
Carlyn giggled as she watched as Prince made Regan his target of his faux anger.
"Thanks mom!" She shouted to them happily.
"Thanks mom nothing!" Prince griped our loud.
Carlyn shook her head and made her way down to the kitchen where she found Cat eating a bowl of what looked to be cereal. She graced her way around the counter and sat down. Cat looked up at her and flashed her a quick smile before shoving a spoonful of Cheerios in her mouth.
"Hey mommy! What are you doing down here I though you'd be on your way to the hospital by down. Doesn't Princess get released today?" She asked.
"Not for another few days. Her blood work is still coming back crazy. For some reason she's still jaundice and they may have to do another blood transfusion."
Carlyn was beginning to fear the worst for her daughter. She had watched her baby girl go through so much in such a short period of time. Carlyn was beginning to lose hope.
"What if I can never bring her home Auntie Cat?"
Cat put her spoon back into her bowl and pushed it away. She could tell that she had to give Carlyn some type of comfort but wasn't sure which was the best way to do that. Letting out a deep sigh and stood up from her seat and went over to Carlyn on the other side of the counter and sat down beside her.
"Listen. I know I'm not a mom so I can't say that I know what you're going through but I can tell you this. That little girl is a fighter just like you. I know that because.....even though things look like it's only getting worse she knows that if mommy won't give up then I can't either. Be strong for her Carly. She'll be even stronger. And pray. Pray that things get better. Which in the end they always do. Princess is going to grow up happy and healthy and the only people who would know what she's been through would be her family. We're all rooting for her and you. You never know you just might get a call any minute and you and your man will be flying to the hospital so fast you won't know what happened."
Cat managed to get a smile out of Carlyn. It was a good thing too. Cat could feel herself tearing up and she was never one to show emotion of the feminine kind.
"Alright enough with all this mushy stuff. Have you heard from Erin?"
"Oh yeah! She starts her therapy session today. She's trying to get out of it so I'm true Nali fashion she's been doing research on legal crap that nobody seems to care about but her."
"I heard that!" A voice called from the doorway.
Erinalia made her way to the kitchen in her new wheelchair. It was odd to Carlyn and Cat to see her so content about not being able to walk.
"Uhh....don't you have somewhere to be bookworm?" Cat snarked at her.
"Yeah in my room. But I got hungry."
"So you're not going to therapy?!?!? Daddy is going to lose his mind if he finds out." Carlyn said stunned
"Well let him. I don't wanna go."
"I thought you wanted to walk again-" Cat interjected.
"I said I don't want to go! Stop pressing me about it! Damn!" Erinalia snapped.
Cat and Carlyn stared at her quietly as they watched her wipe her frustrated tears away. Carlyn walked up to her and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Is it because you don't want to be alone?"
Erin lowered her head and didn't respond.
"Nali if you want to I can go with you. It will give me something to do instead of worrying about the baby. Please? I want you to walk again. Who else am I gonna take trips to the mall with? Cat?"
"Really? I'm still in the damn room." Cat hissed.
Carlyn smiled and gave a wink. It also made Erinalia feel a little better.
"I guess. I'm just worried that I could do all the work and never walk again." She said sadly.
"Well we won't know until we try right? C'mon I'll give you a ride."
"I didn't say yes girl."
"I know! I said it for you!" Carlyn joked.
"Fine but I expect breakfast."
Carlyn helped push Erinalia out of the kitchen and to the lobby to leave. Cat sat back down and continued to eat her now soggy cereal when her cell phone began to ring. She looked at the caller ID puzzled. There was no number. Just the word UNKNOWN. Not thinking much of it. She declined the call and attempted to eat when her phone rang again. It was that same UNKNOWN caller. Rolling her eyes she pushed accept and threw the phone up to her ear angrily.
"Listen whoever this is I don't know you I don't owe you anything and I don't want any bullshit subscription to what you're selling so stop calling me!"
Before she could end the call she heard a deep voice on the other end letting out an ominous chuckle.
"Oh Catherine. When I'm done with you you'll be wishing it was a bullshit subscription I was selling."
The deep voice laughed again. Cat's eyes widened fearfully as she felt as though she recognized the voice.
"Aaron?!?!?" She asked just as the call ended.
Dropping her phone on the counter she quickly darted from the kitchen to look for Prince.
She didn't think to take her phone with her. A text message of a photo came through of a small baby that looked as if it was just born. The tiny child in the picture was Princess.
