Prince and Regan sat silent in the waiting room with only the distant sounds of the intercom calls from down the hall. The room was dim and very secluded. Prince insisted that it'd be this way because he didn't was to draw any extra attention to himself or his messy situation.
"The press if going to have a field day with this when it gets out." He sighed as he dropped his head and covered his face with sadness.
"Don't worry about that. What we should be worried about now is getting things back to normal. With all that happened the press can piss off." Regan said with a giggle.
She was hoping to get Prince to smile but it didn't work. He didn't even care to notice that she swore in front of him and didn't make her pay the dollar for the jar at his home. She knew that Prince was trapped deep inside his troubled thoughts and didn't know how he or his family were ever going to pull through this horrific ordeal.
"Regan what have done?" He asked in a deep low voice.
"What are you talking about?" She replied.
"I'm talking about Tori.....McKenzie......this fake marriage.......all of it. What have I done to deserve all of this. Was it because I fornicated with multiple women in my youth? Is this my punishment for disgracing God? In my early days I embellished in the rock star road life so much that I did unspeakable things that I hope my children never find out about. Now I'm a grandfather. What am I going to tell my granddaughter when she starts asking questions about my younger life? Joey follows in my footsteps. If I disappoint my son it will kill me. He looks at me like I'm invincible. And Carlyn......Carlyn is my greatest joy. I almost broke her heart once. I don't want to do it again. I should have listened to her from the beginning."
Regan could feel his pain in her own heart and tears began to fall from her eyes. She put her right arm around him and pulled him close.
"Prince? I've known you my whole life. You are a good man and a great father. Your kids are going to love you regardless. You are only human. You make mistakes you make bad choices. Then.....you learn from them. It's just how God made us. If everyone was perfect then there wouldn't be so many problems in the world. And none of this is a punishment from God. It's a lesson. Not everyone is who they say they are. We just have to be careful when bringing people in our lives. It's like.....trying on a new suit."
"My suits are custom made Mouse." Prince chimes in with a grin.
"I know that you ass!" Regan shot back with a laugh.
The two couldn't stop giggling like children and it was good that Prince was finally smiling. He looked up at Regan as her smiled lived on her face. He noticed that her short bob was starting to go back to its original curly state.
"You shouldn't have cut it." He said as he ran his hand through her hair.
"It was a change for the better I think." She said.
"I bet Jackson was a real catch."
"Are you jealous?"
"Not at all! I'm sure he's the marrying type."
"I'm sure he is! Nosy!"
The two broke out in laughter once more as the tension in the room was finally dying down. The doctor came to them and the anxiously stood to their feet. The looked on the middle aged mans face was very nervous.
"Please say you have some much needed good news Dr. Strauss." Prince said in hopes that he would approve of his request.
"Well I do have a little bit of good news but it's only going to be followed with not so good news."
"Which is what....exactly?" Regan asked as she took Prince by the hand.
The doctor took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
"Well the good news is Catherine is stable but she's lost a great deal of blood. We're in the process of finding a match for her to begin a transfusion."
"And now the bad news?" Regan replied.
"The bad news is.....Erinalia is in serious condition."
The two looked stunned and very confused.
"Erin?!?!? Why is she here????" Prince asked worried.
"She was caught in the crossfire of whatever shootout happened at her apartment. Someone met her at her front door and attempted to shoot her at point blank range. She managed to get away from that but the man followed her and shot her three times from behind. Two of the bullets only grazed her but one came dangerously close to her vital organs. It ever hit her in her spine."
Prince could feel his knees buckling beneath him and his heart was seconds away from stopping. Regan could feel his body leaning more and more onto her.
"I think I need to be alone." Prince managed to get out just before collapsing in the waiting room chair.
Erin was like a daughter to him. In fact Erin was his first encounter years back while touring in Toronto. He was so stricken by the wonder and curiosity in her eyes that he decided to take her under his wing and keep her close at all times. He felt like he was slowly losing everything he had worked so hard for. His family. His friends. Even his children.
"I'll give you two some time." Dr. Strauss said as he placed a consoling hand on Prince's shoulder.
"What have I done?" He said in a mere whisper.
"We will figure this out Skipper. I can promise you that. We will figure all of this out." Regan said to him in an attempt to give him some type of reason to hold on to hope.
"I need to get to her. I need to see Erinalia." Prince begged.
"That wouldn't be wise right now. Let's just get your thoughts together and when the time is right you can see her. I don't need you falling completely apart. We all need you. I......need....you."
The two gazed in each other's eyes and fell into a tight embrace. It nothing like they had ever done before and it was as good of a time as any for it to happen. Prince felt as if he was broken and Regan was going to be the one to hold him together through his time of confusion and darkness. She was going to be the guiding light he's been looking for.
