Regan stood just a few feet away from Karen. All she could do was stand and watch this woman cry her heart out while constantly apologizing for her sisters horrible actions. All Regan could think of was turning a blind eye and have security escort her out and find Tori and take her with them. However, the much softer and loving side of Regan couldn't just dismiss Karen and her plea to find Tori. The only thing she knew how to do was lend a hand when it was desperately needed.
"Karen? Stand up. Sitting here crying and having a pity party isn't going to help you find Tor- McKenzie.....is it?" Regan said.
Karen dropped her hands from her face and with puffy red eyes looked up at Regan.
"I know you think that I'm just as bad as she is.....but I'm not. I graduated top of my class from NYU for the arts. I had dreams of being a film director but McKenzie killed that for me years ago when she somehow checked herself out of the mental hospital under a new name. Her husband wasn't much help either. His love for money and greed was what drove they to go to that concert. Prince was just a helpless target and somehow got caught up in this by falling in love with her. Kenzie took this lie and ran with it because Aaron wanted her to. She's willing to do anything for that man. Including not take her antipsychotics. He was always the one who believed that it was me who was the crazy one and needed to take pills. Mama was much too sick to deal with all the stress. So I promised to take over after graduation. Shortly after that mama passed away. You think Kenz came to the funeral? I was the only one there to bury mama. And now I'm afraid that if I don't find McKenzie......I'll be burying her to."
The shakiness in Karen's voice rocked Regan to her soul. She didn't know what it was like to lose a sibling because of the fact that she was an only child, but she definitely understood what it was like to be the only one to bury a parent. Losing her own mother gave her something that she could relate to Karen and it didn't take long for her to quickly sympathize with her. Regan took a few steps and finally was close enough to place a gentle hand on Karen.
"Stand up Karen." She said to her in a much softer tone.
Karen looked up at Regan and notice that the anger in her face was gone and a warm small snails began to grow fro her cheeks. Karen took Regan by her hand and rose to her feet.
"Please. I don't mean any harm and I don't want to cause anymore turmoil. I just want to take my sister home. Will you help me?" Karen begged once more
Regan smiled and gave a silent nod. It was very relieving for Karen to know that she finally had an ally on her side and not turning her away because of her sister.
"Just know I'm only helping you on the strength of my friend. Not for you. Or.....for McKenzie." Regan huffed.
"I......I understand." Karen replied sadly.
Regan realized that she was being more harsh than caring and apologized for her words being so mean.
"It's ok." Karen said with a grin.
"My sister was never an easy person to deal with. I knew what the consequences of all of this would be if I stepped in to help her. I don't have any ill will towards anyone. I just.....don't have that in me."
"Yeah well if it's all the same to you security will be with us at all times. Sister or not." Regan answered back.
"I think that would be best for both of us. McKenzie can be very dangerous in her state of mind. When she's not on her medications consistently she gets irate and harmful rather quickly than expected. I'm the only one that can talk her off the ledge."
"You sure about that? Last time I checked she was all goo goo eyed for Prince. Not you. Not that your not attractive or anything. Not saying that I'm attracted to you and all......you get what I mean."
Regan's banter got Karen to finally smile and giggle a little to ease her out of being so fearful of getting hurt.
"No I get it. I'm not into relationships anyway. I don't have the time." Karen replied getting sad again.
"Well why not? You're still young! Life is way to short to be single. Especially at your age. How old did you say you were again?"
"I didn't......but I'm 27."
Something soon struck a chord in Regan.
"Wait! That's impossible! Tori said she's 27! How are you and her the same age if you are older than her?!?!?"
The look on Karen's face was nothing short of confused.
"What do you mean? McKenzie isn't 27 at all! She just turned 22 in February. Wait......you're telling me that she's been lying about her age this whole time?"
Regan was now once again filled with anger as she let out a loud huff from her nose.
"This just keeps getting better and better doesn't it?" Regan asked sarcastically.
"I'm almost afraid to ask what she's been telling everyone. I know she has to be making herself appear to be someone she's not but to lie about her age is something even I didn't think she would do."
Just as Regan was about to speak the sound of a loud crash came from the living quarters of the third floor.
"What was that?!?!?" Regan asked as she looked towards the security guards on stand by.
"Stay here miss Regan!" One of the men said and they race up the steps.
"My sister!" Karen shouted as she ran after them.
"Karen! Karen wait!" Regan yelled and out of instinct chased after her up the steps.
One after the other they all made their way up to the top floor when the sound of glass shattering stopped them all where they stood.
"McKenzie!" Karen shouted and darted down the hall passed the two guards.
"Stop! It's too dangerous!" One guard said.
Karen didn't stop she kept going until she followed the sound of yet another crash that came from Carlyn's bedroom.
"Oh no." Regan said to herself.
Running ahead to see what was going on she made it to Carlyn's bedroom door to find the room in complete disarray and McKenzie holding a gun to Karen's head.
