It was time to celebrate the union of Tremaine and Carlyn Adkins at last. There was a vast display of foods and pastries cascading the tables on the far side of the room and a fountain that displayed an ora of Purple as its waters flowed majestically. Everyone was in good spirits. There wasn't a sad face in the entire crowd. Family and friends came to bid party at Paisley. As the cake was being brought out by the catering staff Morris stood and gently tapped on his champagne glass.
"May I have your attention everyone!" He shouted over the crowd.
The guests began to silence themselves and gave Morris his undivided attention.
"Good evening family and friends! Thank you for coming to my nieces wedding tonight! I just wanted to really quickly make a toast to her because......well....not everything came easy for her....or her brother. But with a father like my man Skip in her corner she went from being an over protective pit bull to a sweet tea cup yorkie with a napoleon complex."
The room filled with laughter and Carly swatted at her uncle as she giggled.
"Uncle Morris! Seriously?" Carlyn laughed.
"Alright all jokes aside. Carlyn my dear, I'm glad you and Prince crossed paths. You have made him as well as myself better men and I have nothing but love for my sweet niece! To Carlyn!"
The room raised the glass to Carlyn and took a sip of their drink. Tre took immediate notice that Carly had an empty glass sitting in front of her and when the waiting staff offered to pour her glass she happily refused.
"Are you alright baby girl? You drank nothing but water the whole night." Tre asked.
"Oh! I'm fine I just had a little upset stomach earlier and didn't want to take anything to chance that's all." Carlyn replied with a smile.
Out of the corner of her eye she saw her father was watching her as she waved down a young girl from the wait staff.
"Anything you need ma'am?" The young girl asked.
"Just some sparkling cider nothing with extra flavoring." Carlyn replied as she handed they young girl her empty glass.
Prince came up to the table with worry written on his face.
"Something's wrong my dear. What is it?" Prince asked as he rubbed his daughters shoulder.
"Nothing daddy really!" She said trying to remain as calm as possible.
"You can't hide anything from me mama. Come on let's hear it." Prince said trying to coax Carlyn to say what was on her mind.
Regan had caught sight of the two from her end of the table and tapped Rene on her shoulder.
"We better get down there." She said worried.
"You think he knows?" Rene asked.
"Not sure but I have a feeling he might have a clue."
The two got up from their seats and made their way to the bride and groom.
"Hey guys! Everything ok?" Regan asked.
"Everything's fine daddy's just being concerned as usual." Carlyn replied to her mom.
"He had good reason to babe you have a glow today." Tre said.
"We'll because we just got married! Why wouldn't I?"
"Not that kind of glow love." Tre said with a wink.
The secret was bursting at the seems at this point. Prince got down on one knee next to his daughter and placed a hand on her growing belly.
"Mouse is it true? Is my little girl having a baby?" Prince asked trying to hold back his smile.
"Hey don't ask me it's not my body or my news to give." Regan laughed.
Carlyn looked at her dad and took her husbands hand with a big smile.
"Yes daddy. I'm pregnant." She said trying to keep her happy tears at bay.
"Well I guess I really have no choice to let my little dove leave the nest." Prince said in a broken but happy voice as he hugged his daughter.
Afterwards he shook Tre's hand.
"She's officially all yours sir." Prince said.
"Don't worry she's in excellent hands. You can believe that." Tre smiled.
"I'm counting on you to take care of my babies now. Don't make me have to send my guys." Prince joked with his son in law.
"No need for that I swear."
The two men shared a hug as Prince officially welcomed his new son into the family. Regan and Cat smiled and hugged each other as they watched. Prince grabbed a glass full of champagne from the table as the wait staff brought Carlyn her glass of sparkling cider. He tapped on the glass gently grabbing the attention of the waiting crowd.
"Thank you for coming everybody. Sorry to stop the party by this will only take a moment. I have so exciting news and with my daughter and her husbands permission I hope I that I can share it now rather than wait until later."
Carlyn and Tre smiled and raised their glasses giving their approval. Prince then turned to the crowd and with a big smile on his face he proudly said
"I'm going to be a grandfather!"
The guests roared with cheers and whistles as Prince raised his glass toasting to his daughter, son in law and another new chapter beginning in his life. The part went on non stop for hours after the toast. Prince and Carlyn had their father daughter dance to one of his songs from his catalog that she picked herself. The very same song that inspired her dress. Diamonds and pearls. Prince had his grown daughter dance on his shoes and held her close to his body. He silently let his tears fall as he danced with his daughter and his growing grandchild in her womb. Carlyn knew her dad's tears from from being so happy that she didn't want to spoil the moment. She just kept her head on his shoulder and smiled as see danced in her father's arms. She too let a tear or two fall down her cheeks because she was happy to see her dad so happy. When their dance came to an end Prince kissed the bride on the forehead and looked at how beautiful she was.
"My little girl. I love you so much." He whispered to her.
"I love you more daddy." Carlyn whispered back to him with a smile.
"I love you most. My sweet beautiful one."
Prince touched her belly one more time before leaving the dance floor as Tre took Carlyn by the hand. It made both Carlyn and Tre smile as they saw how excited Prince was. The DJ announced the first dance as bride and groom as Phyllis Hyman's Meet Me On The Moon began to play. The couple danced to a second song Stevie Wonder's Ribbon In The Sky per choice of Carlyn's father. Prince stood off to the side of the dance floor and looked on and watched the smile on his daughter's face grow bigger and bigger. Regan came up behind Prince and tapped his left arm.
"Hey old man!" Regan giggled as they locked eyes.
"I'm not old. If I'm old what does that make you?" Prince retorted.
"Fabulous!" Regan shot back.
"Yeah right! Me and you are both old if we raised her together."
"Not really. We coparented sure but we were physically together."
"That could have happened if you weren't so hellbent on you job."
Regan looked at Prince as the verbal sting began to set in.
"It wasn't by much choice Prince. You know that. Bringing her mother's killer to justice was what she wanted me to do. You know that. I had to do what was best for her and you. If I didn't then we wouldn't be standing here right now embellishing in her happiness. Don't make this just about me. It wasn't an easy job but I went and got it done because I love her just as much as you do."
Prince let out a sign and looked into Regan's eyes knowing that she was never wrong about any decisions she made that were only meant to keep his daughter safe.
"I know Regan. I'm......I'm sorry. My only wish is that.....this could have been us." He said with a sad grin.
The two broke their gaze and watched and Tremaine and Carlyn danced.
"You know I still have the ring in my office. I keep it in my desk drawer. Along with some pictures of us from when we were kids."
Regan looked at the man's left side of his face and wanted to ask why but she knew she'd be opening a new can of worms. She just smiled and watched Carlyn dance with her husband. As they both watched Regan felt a hand creep inside of hers and warm soft fingers lace in between them. Out of the corner of her eye she watched Prince smile without looking her direction.
"You know you're fraud girlfriend is watching." Regan hissed to him about Tori.
"Hey be nice. Besides she knows that we raised these kids together without incident. She's been assured that nothing is going on between us."
"Oh! She's threatened by me is she?"
"I'll let you be the judge of that my dear."
Prince gave Regan's hand a gentle squeeze before letting go and placing his hand on her shoulder.
"Treat my lady well mama." He whispered before heading back to the table.
Regan smiled and shook her head as all the thoughts of plotting against Tori began to cloud her mind but she quickly brushed them to the side because of Carlyn's wedding day. As time passed Carlyn made her way to the bathroom to freshen up her makeup. As she began to fix her crooked tiara from her falling curls she heard the sound of clicking heals at a fast pace coming towards the door but never making their way inside. Carlyn's curiosity rose for the first time in three years as she slowly inched her way to the door and listened to hear a voice on the other side. The voice she heard was Tori. Was she out there talking to herself? Carlyn cracked the door and peeked outside to see what was going on. Tori was standing against the wall on her cell phone having a rather juicy and unsettling conversation with a stranger on the other end.
"Yeah I'm at a wedding right now at Prince's house. His daughter got married today. Not his real daughter she's adopted I guess. Please she's not my problem she's married now I just have the son to deal with. Hell nah! I ain't got time for no kids! I'm trying to get married and go on vacations! Please! With a body looking this good I'm not letting a baby ruin it. Can't say the same for his stuck up little princess. Good luck getting her body back. Girl! Ain't nobody around to hear me. Everybody is too busy getting drunk. Hopefully if Prince is tipsy off the Red Bull and patrón he can make me scream a few times. If I give it to him good enough he just might leave me a nice chuck of change and not his kids."
Carlyn backed away from the door with her mouth hung open. Just because this was her wedding night didn't mean she wasn't going to defend her family even if it meant going toe to toe with the newly awaken Tori.
"Not today.....bitch." Carlyn said to herself.
Carlyn took her heels off and once the close was clear charged from the bathroom to find her father and let him know that his angel isn't what he was expecting. The devil wasn't the only one wearing the vail over their eyes tonight.
