It was the night before Carlyn was to marry the love of her life and everyone was on the most exciting high of a beautiful spring wedding. A full year and a few moths have passed since Toni and Prince's encounter at the hotel and their relationship was growing stronger by the day. Prince and Tori seemed happy together and things were going smoothly. For Carlyn however her thoughts on Tori were nothing but nice and sweet. She had longed for her father to find love from another but he never wanted it to be with Tori. Out of love and respect for her dad she was willing to tolerate Tori for as long as they were dating but once she was gone she wasn't going to hold no punches. She had hopes of her father marrying an old flame named Regan ever since her first year of proclaiming herself to be a Nelson just a few months after her adoption. Now that she was a little older she was better at holding her tongue when it came to certain situations. She had her husband to be Tremaine to thank for that. He was her rock and he wanted Carlyn to be a better person not just for him but for herself. The two had agreed to do marriage counseling before they were to marry so they can begin working on their communication. They dated since high school and although Tremaine loved her raw and uncut honesty he wanted her to not have such a tough skin. Carlyn had always had a wall built around her heart ever since she was left all alone at a young age. She had a father an brother who loved her but it still wasn't enough to soften her up just a little bit more. It was that moment when she had finally opened up to Tremaine about her deep and dark past as well as how she felt about the bad that had transpired throughout her life she was ready to let it all go. It was a weight off of her shoulders and the communication between the young couple was much better. They both agreed to not have a bachelor or bachelorette party the night before the wedding. Tremaine didn't like the idea but if it was going to make his young bride happy than he was all in. As the night went on Carlyn was making the final preparations for her big day where there was a knock on her bedroom door.
"Tre you know it's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding." She giggled as she went to answer the door.
On the other side was her father and her younger brother.
"Hey Carly! How's it going? Are you nervous?" Joey asked as he plopped down on his sister's bed.
"Well it's....going I guess. I'm very nervous and shouldn't you be with the old man working on that guitar solo for the wedding?"
"We just wrapped not too long ago. You look.....ummmm....." Prince tried to think of how to describe his daughters demeanor at the moment.
"A frazzled mess is what I look like. Daddy what happens if something goes wrong tomorrow? What if Tre gets sick or something? What if I get sick?"
"Calm down my love. You have nothing to stress about. Everything will be fine. I'll make sure of that. All you have to do is clear you mind get some rest and be ready to walk down that aisle with me."
Prince kissed his daughter on the cheek and gave her a warm embrace.
"Don't worry Carlz my solo will be perfect. Dad won't let me blow it anyway. Then I'll never leave studio C for the rest of my life." Joey said as he hugged his sister good night.
"Then you better be on it tomorrow." She joked back.
"Good night Carlyn. See you in the morning." Prince said as he was heading out the door.
Carly was just about to rest her tired and over worked mind when she suddenly was plagued with two burning questions.
"Daddy wait!"
Prince stopped and turned back to his baby girl.
"Have you heard from mom yet?"
"Regan is in town but she had to make a stop before coming here. If you want to wait for her-"
"No it's ok I just didn't want her to miss the wedding."
"You know she wouldn't miss it for the world."
"And Tori?"
The looked on Prince's face soon turned pale as he knew where this conversation was going. He knew that Carlyn and Tori didn't mix for whatever reason but tonight wasn't the time to discuss why.
"I will make sure that she keeps her distance. You just be nice."
"When am I not nice dad?" She giggled.
"Now. Get some sleep." Prince said with a smile closing the door behind him.
Carlyn had always felt that Tori was not the one for her father. She was quick to catch on that Tori was a young woman who's beauty was blinding to her father and without those extra set of eyes she would take all of his hard earned fortune and squander it away for her own personal gain. Prince has tried reassuring his daughter that nothing of the sort would happen but Carly refuses to let down her guard in this case. She was never given that vibe from Regan. She took to Prince's old flame rather quickly and she was hoping that they would marry after all the history they have. She didn't take to Tori the same way. The day Prince had introduced Tori to his children both Joey and Carlyn felt something was off about her. She was pretty sure but could she be faithful? They both knew that the signs were there they just had to wait for them to shine through. For Prince Tori was perfect. Too perfect. No woman could be more flawless than their father and not have a bad past to go with all of that beauty. All things that glittered weren't always gold was the motto Prince had taught his children to live by when he was raising them. Now that they are of enough to apply that saying to the real world they got an immediate red flag when it came to Tori. Joey would call his sister and ask her how to handle it and up until now they were both nearly exhausting all options. They knew that it wouldn't be wise to go against their father or his happiness but at the same time they were only looking out for him and his best interest. That night Carlyn had went to bed with a smile on her face but she was still worried that this Tori character was going to try to sabotage any chances she had of getting her father and his true love Regan back together.
Morning approached and from the moment the sun peaked over the horizon Prince was wide awake busying himself and calming his nerves by helping with the catering but to his dismay was kicked out of the kitchen for being too overbearing. He was then trying to help with the decorating but Carlyn's wedding planner shooed him away. Prince wanted to make sure that his daughters wedding was nothing short of amazing for her. As he was trying to find something to do just above him upstairs in the living suite of Paisley Park was a sleeping Carlyn who was awaken by the sound of her cell phone ringing. She opened on tired eye and grabbed her phone from under her pillow.
"Hello?" She answered with a gurgling and tired voice.
"Well rise and shine beautiful." Said the deep voice on the phone.
Carlyn had a smile on her face that could light up the pyramids of Paisley without electricity.
"Well good morning to you too handsome." She replied happily.
"Are you ready to walk down the aisle as a Nelson and leave the alter an Adkins?"
"You know I would t want it any other way."
"Good. Because I would be very heartbroken if you didn't. You know how long I've waited for this day? There was nothing I ever wanted than to make you my wife. I'm so proud of you."
The love Tremaine had for Carly was endless. He would take a bullet for her without a second thought. He was willing to make sure that his loving wife shed no tears for as long as he was alive.
"You always have to be so sweet to me?" She asked him with a giggle.
"Yes I do. You're my everything and I have to make sure your happy."
"Well just being with you makes me happy."
"And that's how it's gonna stay. Now. Get off this phone and get ready to be my wife."
Carlyn giggled at his joke as she pulled her comforter over her face hiding her blushing eyes from an empty room.
"Alright you sly devil. Don't get cocky before the wedding." She grinned.
"That's the honeymoon." He said with a laugh.
They said Thor I love you's for the final time before the wedding and hung up the phone. Carlyn was very excited to finally get to the altar and see Tremaine again for the first time in twenty four hours.
"I'm getting married." Carlyn whispered to herself happily.
She couldn't wait to put on that dress and say I do. Her dad couldn't wait either.
