The blaring sound of the hotel phone by the bedside rang in the sleeping musicians ear. It rang loud enough to stir him from his covers and reach for the phone. He rubbed his weary eyes and cleared his threat before speaking into the receiver.
"Hello?" He said before letting out a silent yawn.
"Good afternoon Mr. Nelson. Please forgive me for disturbing your rest but I was instructed by your assistant to give you a wake up call? You're flight leaves at 6PM sharp and she's waiting for you to come and have brunch before check out." A young voice said on the other end of the phone.
The artist cleared the sleep from his right eye and ran the very same hand through his hair.
"Ok. I'll be right down. Thank you." He said in a deep raspy voice.
He hung up the phone and rolled himself out of the white comforter and out of bed catching his balance before falling to the floor. The man stood tall and stretched his arms as high as he could go as his bones popped and shifted. With a scrunching up of his face the last pop sound was displeasing to him.
"Oh fountain of youth," he began as he turned on the small light next to his bed "where can I find you?"
Prince looked over to the mirror just across the room and looked himself over with a smile.
"I'm still good looking I'm just missing something." He said to his reflection in hopes that it would respond back to him.
He shook his head of his clouded thoughts and grabbed his personal belongings sleepily carrying them to the bathroom. The artist showered and dressed then did his makeup. Though without it he looked like a work of art he felt that he would be out of his element if he didn't. Once he was ready h called to his head of security and asked to come take his things to a waiting car before meeting with his assistant to go over the days itinerary. Just as the musical mastermind slipped into a pair or crimson red heeled shoes that matched his suit and fedora there was a knock on the door. He zipped them up quickly and went to let in his security.
"Afternoon boss!" Tony said happily as he stepped inside of the room.
"How's it going Tony?" The artist asked as he patted his long time friend on his back.
"Everything is ready to go and we have the tickets to your flight for first class ready." Tony explained.
As Tony took a seat at a small table in the the corner of the room he noticed the look on his employers face was perplexed.
"What's going on P?" Tony questioned.
Prince took a seat across from Tony at the table and filed his hands.
"If women love me so much why can't I get one to stay? Am I not doing something right?" He asked.
Tony took his friend by the wrist and sighed.
"It's not you man. The right one will come. Just hold on."
"Yeah but when. I'm not getting any younger Tony. I want to be loved too. I want to marry and be happy just like anyone. This time I want to stay married."
"You will man. Just don't try to rush these things. I know how hopelessly in love you can be sometimes. That's why the last two didn't work out. Honestly you're best fit was with Regan. She may have been a little rough around the edges but she was your one."
The artist laughed and began to blush at the thought that he might be right.
"You also said the same about Vanity. Look how that turned out." Prince replied
"You know that kind of young love was bound to go wrong somewhere." Tony joked.
The artist and his friend shared a few good laughs before getting up from the table. Tony began to round up the bags and just as he was about to reach for the smooth black guitar case prince quickly reached for it.
"You know how I feel about my baby." He said as he gripped the handle.
"Oh yeah! I know. I was there the day it was stolen." Tony said to the man beside him with a wink.
Prince recalled the day when he met his daughter and his smile enlarged taking up his face.
"My sweet girl. A lot has changed since then. Now she's getting married." Prince said as they headed out of the room.
"I can't believe it either. My little girl is three years older than yours and she's not even considering it." Tony laughed as he spoke about his only child.
"She'll come around one day." Prince reminded him.
The two men found an elevator and waited for it to open. Suddenly Prince was struck with a feeling of forgetfulness.
"Tony take my guitar with you I think I left something back in the room." He said as he sat down his Teley.
"No problem. And I'll be extra careful." Tony said as the artist headed back to his room.
Prince slipped the card key in the door and it clicked giving him permission to go back inside. He pushed the door open and went inside. He stood in the doorway for a moment as he tried to remember what he left behind. Once he took a step closer he looked in the bathroom and saw a small violet velvet pouch sitting next to the sink.
"There you are! Carlyn wouldn't be happy with me if I left you behind." The man said thinking about the disappointment that would show in his only daughter's eyes if he had forgotten the special gift she had requested on his tour.
He tucked the tiny tote bag inside of his left pocket and left out of the room. Hurrying back to the elevators hoping to find Tony had waited for him, to his surprise he was already gone.
"You sly dog you left me." He thought to himself with a smile on his face.
Prince pushed the button to go to the lobby and waited. He stood silent until the doors opened and he stepped inside. He pushed the the button for the doors to close and he descended down to the main floor of the hotel. The doors open and he was met with a small crowd of occupants and staff running to and fro one end of the lobby to the other. Prince stepped out of the elevator and headed for the desk and greeted the young man behind it with a simple nod.
"Good afternoon Mr. Nelson sir! I hope your stay with us was a pleasant one! Is there anything we can do for you to complete you stay?" The young man asked trying his best to maintain his star struck demeanor.
"Everything was just perfect thank you. And please you don't have to call me Mr. Nelson. Prince will do." He smiled.
"Oh no I wouldn't want to do that sir. It wouldn't feel......natural. Plus if my supervisor found out-"
"I insist. Please. It will be our little secret." The artist said with a wink as he extended his key to the young man.
The concierge took the key and with a swift motion Prince silently instructed him to flip the card key over with his finger. To the young mans' surprise he found a fifty dollar tip taped to the back.
"Oh wow! Than-"
Prince stopped him from his gratuitous gesture by placing a finger to his own lips.
"Thank you for everything." He whispered to the young man.
He tapped the desk three times with his knuckles and began to walk away to the ballroom when he had accidentally bumped into a woman.
"Oh my! I'm so sorry my dear! Are you alright?" He said sweetly to the young lady.
When he got a good look at her his memories of the show the night before took over his mind. He saw that same beautiful brown skinned face in the front row with her dark hair swaying freely as she danced. His heart pounded furiously behind his ribs as he studied her body as well has her captivating brown green eyes. By chance he had found her and was standing face to face with the woman who haunted his dreams before his phone rang.
"I found her!" He thought as his smile grew immensely.
The woman finally smiled back as she looked at the artist she saw perform before her just hours ago.
"I'm fine thank you! I'm so sorry I can be a real clutz sometimes. Especially when I'm around royalty." She stammered out in excitement.
"There's nothing royal about me at all my love." He said in a deep seductive voice.
Prince put out his hand to her and looked her up and down pleased at what he saw. This petite and perfect figured beauty in front of him caused his senses to go insane inside of his body. Every inch of him tingled with lust for a moment but he had to keep in mind that he just met her. He had to play it cool if he wanted to win her over.
"I'm sorry......I didn't catch your name." He said in his cool and suave voice.
"Oh! Forgive me! Tori! Tori Monroe. Pleased to meet you Prince. I've.....been a fan since Parade! I was too young for the Purple Rain phase." She said shyly.
"Aww age ain't nothing. So I see you know who I am. Why don't I get to know you. I'm about to have a late breakfast. Care to join me?"
The romantic musician extended his hand to her and at first she didn't want to oblige but the pouty face he made insisted she have a small meal with him. She gave him a shy grin and took his hand. He led the way to the ballroom with his new beauty just inches away.
"At last I found her. I have to make her mine." He kept thinking as they went to get to know each other.
This was the beginning of their story. The Lemonade may be sweet but if you don't have enough sugar it can leave a sour taste in Your mouth.
