~18~

Tori sat at the edge of the bed as Prince walked up to her slowly eyeing the engagement ring that sparkled in the light in the room. He looked at her soft features and closed his eyes hoping that the conversation he was about to have with his future wife would ease his mind and comfort his soul with the answer he was looking for. Tori took his hand and pulled him to sit beside him on the bed.

"What is it baby? You've looked so upset and have been so withdrawn from the world these days. Talk to me. I'm sure whatever it is we can fix it." She said to him leaving a warm kiss behind on his face.

Tori's eyes had finally managed to catch his attention when he let out a sigh and let her hand go.

"I want you to be honest with me Tori." He started with turning to face her.

"Ok sure! About what?" She asked with a nervous smile.

  "Do you really love me?"

The question had hit her like a ton of bricks as she sat with a puzzled look on her face. Prince was trying to find the answer in her eyes but he wasn't sure if he was really seeing it. Tori got her thoughts together before she spoke and gave as good of an answer that she could.

"Prince....of course I do! Why would you even ask me a silly question like that?" She asked trying to make light out of what was turning into an awkward situation.

She didn't know how heavy the first question was going to be until Prince asked her the next question.

"And what about my children? Do you love them?"

  "Well....I'd like to....but-"

"But what? If you love me there should be no problem loving them the same way right?"

Tori was trying to figure out where this sudden interrogation was coming from but she kept her cool and answered the next question.

"Baby you know I love them but I wouldn't say that it's reached that kind of love yet. At least....not between me and Carly. I mean....at least not yet. I've had the chance to spend time with Joey and get to know him a little more and build that kind of relationship but Carlyn had done nothing but shut me out since I've met her and....I don't know how to get through to her."

"So what you said about my daughter being a brat and how you wanted to send my son away so we can go on vacations wasn't true?"

Tori wasn't sure where this was coming from but she wasn't going to let this conversation break her.

"Baby.....what's this really about?" Tori asked as she was beginning to get more agitated.

"Tori I heard what you said about my kids! You can't act like I don't know! You're trying to send them away? What woman would do something like that to the man she claims she loves?"

"Ok but Prince. I don't know what your talking about. What do you mean you heard?" She snapped.

"Oh! Well in that case come with me." Prince snapped back angrily.

He stood up from the bed and ran out of the room with Tori at his heels. They went down to the studio and Prince pushed the door opened and went up to his soundboard and ran the playback of the night of the wedding reception. Prince crossed his arms across his chest as he leaned against his soundboard and watched as Tori's face changed while hearing her own words hitting her eardrums. The shock on her face was over the top emotional and she covered her mouth. Her eyes popped wide as she continued to listen to herself. Prince was becoming more and more annoyed and stopped the playback.

"So I'll ask you again. Do you really love me? Or my money?" Prince asked in a stern voice.

Tori didn't say anything. She just stood there covering the shock on her lips.

"What's even more troubling is.....you know how much my children mean to me. And yet you say that my daughter is spoiled and you want to send my son away just so you can reap the benefits of my hard work. Tori......why? That right there? What I just heard? That isn't you loving me honestly."

"Oh baby." She began to cry as she ran over to him.

"Please don't.....I had a lot to drink that night. I said all kinds of things that I probably don't know about. I really do love you! I wouldn't never hurt you ever Prince. You know that. Don't you?"

Prince was always a sucker for a pretty girl in tears. Though his mind was telling her that he needed to let her go his heart was ripping apart at the seams. He could barely watch his daughter cry let alone the woman he swore he was in love with. As she continued to plead for his forgiveness Prince couldn't harden his heart enough to do what he knew was right.

"Tori.....I need you to listen to me very carefully. I'm really not one for a second chance after this but.....for you I will grant you that.....because I love you."

Tori's excitement took over and she hugged him tightly taking him a little off balance. Prince smiled on the outside but on the inside he was beginning to question his decision.

"Prince baby I'm so sorry. It will never happen again I promise. I love you so much and I would never want to hurt you ever. I love you and Joey. And I especially love Carlyn. I don't know where all of that came from." She said to him.

Her act was convincing indeed. All it took was a few tears and a good story and he was putty in her dainty hand. He kissed her passionately and led her back to the bedroom. Once he closed the door he began to slowly walk towards her. Tori began to blush as her Emmy award winning tears rolled down her cheeks. He wiped her cheeks with his thumbs and kissed her softly. Soon he was taking her out of her dress and leading her to the bed. She sprawled out and let him kiss her body from head to toe. Her soft moans began to turn him on and he was ready to make love to her but was more reluctant than ever. When their eyes met Tori noticed his eyes were sad.

"Please forgive me baby." She whispered to him.

"It's going to take some time my love."

"I understand. Is there anything you want me to do to make it up to you?"

Prince thought for a moment. At the time he wasn't paying his brain any attention with all the red flags it was showing him. He was listening to his love sick heart.

"Let's get married." He said to her deeply as he slowly kissed her neck.

Tori was very confused.

"But we are getting married."

"No. Let's get married tomorrow."

"Tomorrow? Why so soon?"

"I can't wait anymore. Let's go to Hawaii and make it happen."

Tori smiled like a child on Christmas morning who had just opened the gift she had asked for.

"Ok. Let's do it." She whispered before pulling him in for a kiss.

The rash decision was definitely going to send some negative opinions his way. Especially from the two woman that protect him the most. His old flame and his daughter.
