~15~

Prince hurried through the corridors of Paisley Park and looked everywhere for Regan. He couldn't find her inside and was worried that she may have left after their argument the night before and went to stay at her childhood home for the night to cool down. Tony was sitting in the hall at the back security desk playing Tetris on his phone when Prince approached him.

"Hey Tony how ya doin'?" Prince had asked him with a smile.

Tony quickly dropped his phone and gave Prince his full attention.

"Morning boss! Sorry about that. I was just...." Tony started before Prince flashed him a smile and stopped him.

"It's ok. I know you've been here all night long and need to keep busy. Listen have you seen Regan anywhere?"

"Oh yeah! She's out by the lake out back. She hasn't been out there long. Maybe fifteen minutes. She said she made you breakfast and that you should eat something before you start working yourself to death."

Prince's smile grew even bigger and he knew that he couldn't hide his happiness.

"Huh! She made me breakfast after our little fight?" He thought to himself as his face began to hurt.

Tony was nervous to see his boss so still.

"Uhhh boss? You ok?" Tony asked as he waved a hand in front of his face.

Prince soon snapped out of his mental fantasy and remembered that she was standing next to Tony.

"Sorry man. Take a break. I'll see you later." Prince said patting Tony on the shoulders.

Tony was never more confused. He couldn't tell if he was in love or sleep deprived. As much as he wanted to investigate the situation he let it go and headed down the kitchen to heat up some leftovers his wife packed him and relaxed for a little while. Prince quickly made his way out the back door to the Refuge Lake and stopped at the top of the hill at the sight that he saw sitting on the grass.

"Oh! My....." he said stopping mid sentence looking at the silhouette just below him.

Regan was sitting on a blanket in the morning spring sunlight as the breeze blew flew her curly hair. She looked so peaceful as she sat deep in her thoughts.

"I wonder what's she's thinking about?" Prince thought to himself as he looked on.

He couldn't feel his legs or his face. Prince was all smiles and felt a little flustered but couldn't seem to place why. Was it the way she was sitting so peacefully? Could it be how her soft brown curls blew sweetly in the spring air?  Maybe it's the way the sun kissed her body. All the feeling that he began to feel in their younger days were flowing through him like a wave crashing against the sand. Prince could tell his heart was racing non stop. He made his way slowly down the hill and quietly snuck up behind her as she sat reading her book.

"Mind if I join you pretty lady?" Prince said to her startling her out of her story.

"God! Skipper! You scared the hell out of me! Next time make a noise when you wanna greet me!" She shrieked.

"I'm sorry my dear I didn't mean to scare you. Well actually I did but.....may I take this empty spot or are you saving it for someone?"

"Ya know I actually am! He should be here any minute!"

  "Oh? May I ask who?"

"Oh I don't know he's cute, tall, and blond but he's a little young for me."

  "So you're seeing my son?"

"I'm kidding nerd. He's not here he's at school. I took him this morning so Tony can get a little rest. I.....hope I didn't overstep or anything."

"No! Never! I'm actually glad that after last night you didn't leave."

Regan could tell that something was on Prince's mind and she was preparing herself for a very long and extensive conversation. She placed her bookmark in her book and sat it off to the side.

"Alright! Spill it. What's bothering you?"

Prince knew that it was time to talk but he wasn't expecting her to make him come clean so soon. He let out a soft sigh and took Regan by the hand.

"I saw him last night." He said to Regan softly.

Regan tilted her head in a perplexed fashion. She was curious to know who he saw.

"Should I worry about your mental state sir?" Regan asked out of confusion.

Prince let out a chuckle and squeezed her hand a little.

"Mouse my mental state is fine I promise! But in all seriousness......Ahmir came to me last night."

Prince looked in Regan's eyes and could see her eyes welling up with tears. She knew how it pained him to lose his only son and he wall willing to trade his own life for his baby to live a normal life. She went back to all the days of countless phone calls to her in the middle of the night crying to her about how he wished his son had lived so he could pass on his legacy and that how he had always wanted someone who would love him back just as much if not more than him.

"What was he like?" Regan asked in a broken voice.

"Like me. Only smaller. And very wise for a child I see!" Prince giggled.

It made Regan smile a little to see Prince talk about his deceased child so casually as if he were alive.

"At least he was happy when he came to you right?"

"Yeah....but.....he said something to me that.....isn't sitting well with me.....I kinda don't know if it's......good or bad. It came off more as a warning really."

"Well what did he say? What was the warning about?"

Prince's reluctantly shook his head before giving his reply in hopes that Regan wouldn't jump up and rub her possibly being right in his face.

"It was about Tori.....and how she's not so nice."

  "Not.....so....nice like how?"

"I don't know.....I wanted to get more detail on that but.....before he left he told me to give Joey a high five and tell Carlyn that he loved her. I guess maybe......he's looking out for me. Like you're doing. And.....I'm......sorry.....about last night. I know that you're just doing what a good friend does. I shouldn't have lashed out at you like I did and it was childish of me to behave that way."

Regan smiled and shook her head.

"Well you're right about one thing."

  "What's that?"

"That you're childish!" Regan giggled as she pinched him on the cheek.

Prince tried his best to pull away from her but he couldn't seem to do so because he was smitten by her eyes and how the sun hit them just right to make them a lighter brown. Prince was beginning to fall for the woman who stole his heart years ago. But why? He was to be married by the end of the year. As the two laughed at their playfulness Prince had pulled himself together and stood up from the ground.

"Well.....I guess I should get inside."

"What? Don't want the misses to suspect you're up to no good with me?" Regan joked.

Prince smiled at her and waved a finger at her.

"You're wrong about her mama." He tried convincing himself.

"Are you sure?" Regan asked looking back at him.

Prince never answered. He just held on to his smile and tipped his fedora at her.

  "Thanks for breakfast Mouse."

She smiled back and picked up her book opening it to where she left off.

"No problem. Enjoy that." She said while she watched him walk back up the hill.

Prince was still left with that same burning question that has been eating at him for days. Did he really want to know the truth about who he was marrying or did he simply not care?
