Ch. 57 The First Task
Want a hint as to what he's guilty about? It isn't Cho. Sorry for any grammar mistakes, I've been very busy and this was written over a short period of time.
Also, while searching for Hinny Fanfictions, I saw that my story made it to the 8th spot! On a rate from 1 to Ron seeing a platter of chicken, how excited do you think I got?
Harry stood back from the rest of his rivals. His gloved hands shook as he looked at his clothes, which had been enchanted by Hermione. They would keep him from getting burned on his body, but his exposed face was an exception. Ginny was behind the tent, he could feel her, but he didn't move from his spot. The guilt was still there.
He'd already established that this might ruin their somewhat fragile relationship, and was scared. He didn't know what his Bond Mate would think about it. Quickly, he shook his head and walked to the back of the tent, moving the cloth out of the way and was met with his girlfriend's beautiful eyes.
"Harry, are you ready?" Ginny whispered, reaching into the tent and lacing her fingers with his. Harry nodded, glad she was here lending him support that only she could give. Like every time he was with her, he felt whole again. He wondered if she felt the same.
"Yeah, I am. I'm worried though." Ginny smiled softly, glancing at the ground while biting her lip. Suddenly, she kissed him. Harry smiled against her mouth, reveling in her minty taste.
"You'll be fine. I promise. I'll take care of that dragon myself if something happens to you." Harry laughed and wrapped her in his arms. Suddenly, he was aware of a new voice in the room and turned to see a woman with blonde hair and weird glasses staring him and Ginny down.
"Perfect! Harry Potter, The Chosen One, and his girlfriend, Ginny Weasley, share a compromising kiss before he marches to his likely death!" The woman giggled, waving to a camera "Say Pumpkin Pasty!"
Harry covered the camera with his hand, blinking against the flash of light. "Who're you?" Harry asked, glancing her up and down before motioning to Ginny to get out of there before she was caught. To his surprise, she had already gone.
"Who else? Rita Skeeter! Writer for the Daily Prophet. I must say, my readers will gobble up this report..." Rita squinted, making her face look very bug like. "Oooh, enchanted clothing. I wonder who did that for you, was it your girlfriend? Well, one of them?"
"One of them? I'm only dating Ginny!" Harry protested, heat rising up his neck in anger. He didn't like this woman, she reminded him too much of Gilderoy Lockhart who'd been his teacher in 2nd year.
"I dare say you're lying. Anywho, I must be off. I've collected all needed information for this week's article. Best of luck!" And she swanned off to harass the other competitors.
She finally gone? Ginny asked. Harry felt her presence was towards the stands, as she was probably getting her seat. Your mum and dad are here. They didn't bring Cara, probably thought she might not like all the yelling.
Harry sighed, disappointed at that news. He sat heavily onto the wooden bench beside him and gazed through a crack in the cloth of the tent.

Ginny was sitting in the stands beside James and Lily, her parents off to the side talking to the twins about who knows what. She was slightly worried for her Bond Mate, and subconsciously chewed on her thumbnail as the Task began. Almost every contestant did moderately well, Fleur almost completely failed, but that was good news to Ginny. Maybe Harry could have a chance.
When Harry stepped out, a Hungarian Horntail in his path, Ginny's heart thudded out of her chest. His green eyes sparkled when he saw her, and she sent him silent strength and encouragement. James and Lily had their arms wrapped around each other, and by the time the cheering stopped, the dragon was sniffing around for Harry.
Ginny tried again, and felt slightly weaker as she sent strength. So far, it was working. Harry looked more energized, and she could hear his thoughts go by faster than she could catch them. He counted under his breath, and suddenly sprung up, leaping over the rock he'd been hiding behind, and shot a spell.
It hit the dragon straight on the nose, jarring it backwards. It looked dazed, and while Harry still had the chance, he sprinted forward and grabbed the egg, a roar came from the crowd.
The next few minutes were blurry for Ginny as the judges rated him. Beard Dude was apparently being chewed out for something by Dumbledore and What's Her Face. Ginny hadn't really paid much attention to the names, she had been too preoccupied at the moment.
Lily turned to Ginny with wide eyes. "Did he get burned?" She asked. Ginny shook her head, checking Harry's emotions quickly. Lily sighed, smiling softly at the girl.
"That's my boy!" Yelled James, as he had been for the past ten minutes. Apparently, he was excited that Harry most likely won.
At the end of the arguing, the judges voted. Harry got a ten from Dumbledore, nine from Tall Lady, and a seven from Mean Beard Dude.
Anger roared in Ginny's ears, and she wasn't sure if it was from her or Harry. James let out a strangled cry, putting his hand on his chest.
The cold was brutal, so as Ginny made her way towards Harry, her eyes closed right and hands clutching her arms, she didn't expect anyone to still be outside. With a loud 'oomph' Ginny almost fell to the ground. In front of her was a girl with long black hair, all falling in her grey eyes. She wore a Hufflepuff scarf and glared Ginny up and down before standing.
"Who're you?" She spat. Ginny was surprised at this outburst, and quickly glanced around for Harry. With her lips pressed in a thin line, she narrowed her eyes.
"I'm sorry for running into you, but you don't have to be so rude." Ginny glared. The girl huffed, her scarf falling over one shoulder. She fixed it easily.
"I'm in a hurry, thank you. Now, who are you?" The Hufflepuff asked. Ginny was about to fire back a response, but she then felt hands on her shoulders.
"I'm Harry, she's Ginny, who are you?" Ginny glanced over her shoulders to see green eyes giving her a stern look.
"I'm Katrin. Katrin Boyle." Katrin glared at Harry extra long, with more fire than before, and swished away.
"That little bi-" Harry laughed, cutting off Ginny's insulting sentence as he smiled down at her.
"Come on, Gin, let's go to the Common Room before you start upsetting innocent bystanders again." Ginny rolled her eyes, but glanced over Harry's outfit appreciatively. The shirt was slightly tight, and had a blackened tint to it from the smoke, and the redhead had to say, it made her boyfriend look very... Nice.
Harry slung his arm over Ginny's shoulders and she automatically snuggled into his warmth. Sighing, she gave in and let him guide her to the common room.
Passing a Gryffindor boy with brown hair, Harry almost bumped in to him. The boy paled, darting off into the other direction. Harry scrunched his eyebrows together, but didn't mention it to Ginny.
The fire was warm in the hearth as Harry and Ginny slouched onto a chair, Ginny sitting in Harry's lap, her feet dangling over the edge of the seat. Harry was trying to block out the partying around him, completely content to just sit there with Ginny, but people still came up to him and asked questions or asked to see the Golden Egg.
Harry had found out the hard way that the egg screeched worse than Aunt Marge as she flew off into the sunset. Harry shivered at the thought. Ginny burrowed closer though, and any disturbing thought of Marge's undergarments faded away.
"We need to talk." She reminded him. Harry sighed, knowing she meant about the guilt he felt. He took a deep breath.
"Let's go to the clearing, yeah?"

Harry sat down heavily, Ginny sitting in front of him. She looked hurt almost, glancing over him as he tried to push all thoughts from his head and just speak.
"I know you've felt it. The guilt..." Ginny nodded, urging him to go on. Harry swallowed. "And it... It's because... I'm the reason..."
Ginny looked shocked, and he felt her quickly scan over his emotions and his facial features, hoping to see evidence of him lying.
"You... Have you... Been with another girl, or something?" Ginny asked, her face clearly displaying her hurt.
"No no no!" Harry interjected, practically falling over at the prospect. There was no doubt he wanted to grow up and be with Ginny for the rest of his life, but there was something else. "It's just... You keep getting hurt and it's my fault. If I didn't Bond with you, you wouldn't have to suffer..." Ginny looked surprised, then laughed with relief.
"Harry... That's all?" She asked. Harry nodded, expecting to get scolded, but all he got was her lips on his. "Merlin, I thought you were cheating on me." Harry shook his head again, pitching forward to kiss her again. When they pulled away, Ginny looked into his eyes delicately. "There's nothing we can do about that, Harry. As long as I stay with you, he can't hurt me."
Harry knew she was right, and that helped. But it was the feelings inside of him that also made him feel queasy. A feeling of what he considered to be love. But what would he say? When would he say it? Would she love him back?
All he knew was that he'd throw all caution to the wind, just so that he could tell her. But it had to be at the right time.
