Ch. 37 Baby Potter
Harry lounged on the plastic chair, wrapping his arm around Ginny, who had fallen asleep around a hour before. She insisted that she needed to come with him, since whenever he wasn't there she started coughing her lungs up. Besides, he needed her. Mrs Weasley had said that she could wait with them at the Burrow, but James insisted she was just as much a part of the family as Harry was, since they were practically engaged.
Harry's mother had gone into labor that morning, been rushed to the hospital, and was now giving birth to a baby. Harry wasn't sure whether it was a boy or girl, but hoped he'd get a little brother to play with. A sister would be great, and he didn't mind either way, but he kinda wanted to have a brotherly bond with the baby.
Ginny stirred, looking up towards Harry. He was tapping his foot on the floor in rhythm as he waited. Nervous energy coming off him in waves. She wiped some hair out of his eyes and he looked down at her, pressing a kiss on her forehead.
"Any news?" She stretched, glancing at the clock. It was 3:40, Lily had been in labor for a hour. Harry shook his head and Ginny nestled back into his chest, tucking her knees up to her chest. James had disappeared into Lily's room when she got there, then was kicked out. After another few minutes Lily wanted him again and he went back in the room.
Ginny wasn't sure whether she wanted Harry's new sibling to be a boy or girl. She thought it'd be adorable for another little Potter boy to be born, but she also wanted a little girl so they'd be able to tease Ginny's Bond Mate and have a sort of sisterly relationship. Ginny didn't have any sisters, and wanted to know what it was like to have another little girl around.
She knew Harry wanted a boy, his thoughts kept leaking into her mind while he wasn't paying attention. She wanted him to be happy, but had a feeling that he'd actually like a little sister more.
Another ten minutes went by and Ginny stood, starting to feel the potions her mum gave her sink in. She still felt bad when Harry let go of her, but she was well enough to stand and walk around without getting sick all over the floor.
Suddenly, the chattering down the hall stopped and Harry stood beside Ginny as James walked outside with a shocked look. He glanced over at them.
"Harry, Ginny, come meet our newest addition." He beamed. Harry practically pulled Ginny into the room, wanting to see his new sibling. Lily was sitting on the bed, holding a bundle in her arms.
Harry stopped short at the sight of a light pink blanket. A tuft of red hair could be seen on the top of a soft, pale head. He stumbled over to the bedside and looked down at the small being in his mum's arms. Ginny stood beside him. The baby was small, smaller than Harry thought babies were, and she was sleeping soundly.
"Meet Cara Alexandra Potter." Lily said softly. Harry reached out tentatively and brushed his fingers across her cheek. Ginny smiled. Her boyfriend was already wrapped around the little girl's finger.
Cara made a little sound of communication, twisting in her blankets. Lily bobbed her up and down and the baby calmed slightly, yawning, though her eyes were still closed. James had come and sat beside Lily, wrapping his arm around her and stroking Cara's cheek.
Ginny watched the Potters with a small smile. Then a realization came to her. Just as James had said, she was part of their family. She pretty much was a Potter. Even though she and Harry weren't married, they had the Bond. For the first time in a while, she thought of the Prophecy, and was scared.
Two souls sewn together by Fate, ripped apart by Death
////
Fate was watching over them that day. The entire family was. Death had been paying close attention to these two, and had been out of the house more often. His twin brother, Choice, didn't know what he was doing, but they all knew that this year was going to be unlike any other. There would be consequences.
