Ch. 33
Ginny stretched as she sat up, her bones lightly popping. It was morning, the sun streaming through her window as she glanced around her room. A huge poster of the Hollyhead Harpies covered her door now, stretching from the floor to the ceiling with racing green cloaks and bludgers seemingly bouncing off the paper.
She tried to send Harry waves of encouragement from where he was. Nervous energy was coming off him, though she couldn't imagine why. He blocked her immediately, but not before as sensed his panic. It hurt that he was blocking her off, since they had made a habit of talking through emotions every morning. He's probably just grumpy from being up so early, she reasoned, even though she couldn't quite convince herself that she was speaking the truth.
She shrugged off her duvet and got to her feet, the boards creaking as she made her way to the bathroom. She didn't take long to dress in some jeans and a green tee shirt, along with her shoes of course, since she only had one pair. A faded gray pair of converse, their soles rubbing off. It wasn't like her family was rich.
Ginny slowly made her way downstairs where her brothers were talking to her dad. Her mother had her back turned, making breakfast, a heaping of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and sausage that would make Ron pass out.
She sat at the table, helping herself to toast and orange juice. No one noticed her entrance, as they were all caught up with talking.
"I hear that the Ministry hasn't got a clue who has done it!"
"George, we won't talk about this at the table!"
"I'm hungry"
"I betcha Fudge is having a cow right about now!"
"Fredrick Weasley!"
"When's the food going to be ready?"
"Sorry Mum"
"I'm hungry"
"We'll have you packed yet?"
"No mum"
"Then get your behind up there and pack! Breakfast won't be ready for another ten minutes and I do not want to hear your whining!"
"But muum!"
"Would you rather de-gnome the garden?"
"Ronnikens is in trouble!"
"George!"
"Sorry mum"
"Have they said anything about who did it, dad?"
"Who did what?" Everyone's head turned to Ginny who was sitting with her hand halfway in the air. Their eyes became clouded, all except Fred whose eyes brightened as he started to form a sentence.
"Gin! Hap-"
"Nothing that concerns us sweetie, these boys are just nosy" Fred looked appalled, as did George as they started to rebuke their mothers sentence. They didn't get to, as Ginny interrupted.
"Did what" Ginny repeated, looking at her mum. Molly Weasley went silent. Her daughter gritted her teeth and stood.
"Mum, no matter how much you dislike it, both Harry and I are more involved in this mess than you could ever be and in not going to sit around like a child when I could help. Who did what?" She repeated. Everyone in the room was silent as Ginny fumed. Why did they have to treat her like a five year old? Her eyes drifted to the calendar and her heart dropped. 11th of August.
"Now, no matter what Dumbledore says, you are still twelve years old in body. Even if you are still seventeen in mind-"
"I'm thirteen" with that short sentence, Ginny ran out of the house. The sound of her footsteps were the only thing that kept her from crying
Right, left, right, left
Just keep running
Right, left, right, left
She eventually made it to the orange tree, where she was suddenly warmed to the bone as she sank down and hugged her knees. A butterfly fluttered over and landed beside her foot as she shook lightly.
Ginny heard footsteps lightly making her way to her and whipped out her wand, casting a spell at random. Fred dived over, narrowly avoiding the spell.
"You aren't supposed to do that" He panted, though he had a grin on his face.
"Doesn't apply to me" She sniffed, looking down at her hands and leaning against the thin trunk of the tree. "Not since the Bond, we're too well protected" Fred settled beside her, looking out at the distance.
"They didn't mean to forget, they're just old nutters they are" He reasoned, looking over at his baby sister. "Is it true?"
"Is what true?" She asked quietly, looking at where the butterfly had landed on a small flower a few feet away.
"That you're actually older" He said. This made her snap.
"Of course I'm older! It's my birthday!" She felt like crying as she looked over at her brother. Fred was always the one who comforted her and made her feel okay again, and now he's forgotten her birthday like everyone else. Even Harry forgot and he knew her better than she knew herself.
"Oh Merlin no! I remembered!" He announced proudly, pulling at his suspenders. Ginny couldn't help but laugh. He pulled out a box from his pocket, which he handed to her. "From me and George, knock yourself out" He smiled.
She opened the case to find a stash of Honeydukes, which she smiled at and turned to hug Fred. He returned it as she opened a Every Flavor Beans box and set it between them.
"I meant, that you're older in the head" He said, tapping his temple to prove his point. Ginny nodded, popping a jelly bean in her mouth.
"That's true" She confirmed, smiling slightly as she got watermelon. Or was it green apple?
"Does it feel different?" Fred asked, taking a yellow jelly bean for himself. Ginny paused for a second, rolling a red bean between her fingers. She felt different, yes, like she was a large puzzle that had lost a piece and when Harry came she was complete. If she didn't feel Harry's presence in the back of her mind constantly, be able to determine if he was okay or not, or if he was hurt, she would be a nervous wreck. For her boyfriends sake, she told him he could block her only when it was necessary, the same for her. His blocking her off was part of the reason why she was so upset. Even her Bond Mate forgot her birthday...
Ginny silently nodded her head to answer Fred's question and zoned out, watching the sun rise against the Potter house.
