Their Mother
Chi walked down the halls of the school the next day. The others seemed to have all gone home but she and Yui had stayed behind to do some studying. Chi had just put the books back in the room there were told to put them back in by the teacher and was on her way to rejoin Yui. She had manages to hide the large wounds she had on her right arm from Yui. There were times when Yui patted her on the shoulder and she thought she was going to scream but she hadn't and Yui didn't suspect anything was wrong. Chi suddenly stopped and put a hand over her mouth. The top of her gums were suddenly really sore. It was like pain she had never experienced before, it gave her a sharp headache. She felt warm liquid trickle down her throat, it had a metallic taste to it. Blood, thought Chi. Her gums were bleeding but why? Chi put two finger in her mouth and touched her sore gums. She pulled then back out and there were covered in red blood. She wiped it off and sighed. What was happening? The pain stopped and she continued to move when she saw Kanato come out of a door.
"Kanato, your still here?"
"I am but I want to go home now. Take me home."
"But I need to wait for Yui."
"She will be a long time. Teddy and I had to punish here for not being considerate." Chi immediately thought to the wound in her arm. She knew what Kanato's punishments were like.
"How did you punish here?" She asked as anger began to rise up inside her.
"We only placed her bag on the roof. We knew Chi would be angry if we did anything else so we didn't harm her, but we could not let her go unpunished."
"So how was she being inconsiderate?" Chi asked.
"I told her I was thirsty so she when to get me coffee. I hate coffee and everything with a bitter after taste. I only like sweet things."
"You didn't bite her?"
"No but I am still thirst and I want to drink only your blood." He said moving closer to her with a madden look on his face. Chi moved backwards and Kanato looked like he was confused. "You not scared of me because of yesterday are you?"
"No...I'm just feeling a little faint."
"Did you drink your cranberry juice today?" Kanato asked coming closer.
"Yeah I did but that doesn't change anything."
"But I'm thirsty and it is your job to quench that thirst." He said moving forward. "Teddy is getting impatient."
"Alright." Said Chi. Kanato moved closer and smiled at her.
"For being such a good girl I'll make it pleasurable for you." He said as he sang his fangs into her neck. It really didn't hurt like it had yesterday, it sent electricity down her spine. "You should see the dirty face your making." Said Kanato against her skin. He continued to suck her blood, he stopped and pulled away after a little while. "You'r blood tastes a little different."
"Different? Different in a good way?"
"Well I think it and Teddy does too. We like a lot of things about you." Chi eyes widened at his comment.
"Really? Like what?" She asked and Kanato laughed.
"Ahh, your so cute. Looking for compliments like that." He ruffled up her hair with his free hand, the other one was still holding onto Teddy. "I want to visit Mother before we go home." He said walking past her.
"Your Mother?" Chi repeated hurrying to catch up. Kanato didn't answer her and continued to walk. Chi followed him in silence, not sure where they were going. Kanato stopped walking after a little while. They were stood at the gate of a dark looking graveyard. He was looking in with a hand on the gate.
"Mother's in there." He said pushing the gate open.
"I wasn't aware that your Mother had passed away." Said Chi following him into the graveyard.
"She died a little while ago."
"Oh...I'm sorry to hear that."
"Why? You weren't the one to kill her I was." Chi felt her heart stop a little as she gasped in shock and stopped walking. Kanato walked forward a little and then turned around to see why she wasn't beside him.
"Y-you killed you own Mother?"
"Well I can't take all the credit. Ayato and Laito helped too."
"W-why? W-what happened?"
"There were many reasons why we did. Ayato was the one to deliver the first blow, then Mother went seeking protection from Laito who pushed her off that balcony. Teddy and I warmed Mother up. Her heart was missing and she was cold."
"What do you mean you warmed her up?" She asked.
"We set fire to her body." Chi felt like she was going to be sick, how could someone kill their own Mother? That was beyond disgusting. "Come Mother is waiting to meet you Chi." He said leading her through the graves up until they came to the grave of the triplets Mother. "Mother this is Chi." Said Kanato to the stone as if his Mother were standing right there, alive and well.
"Um, it's a please to meet you." Said Chi feeling a little weird. Kanato's cold laugh filled the grave yard.
"Mother can't hear you."
"Right...of course." Chi said feeling a little confused at what exactly was happening. She looked at the grave and saw the name 'Cordelia Sakamaki' on it. That was the name of their Mother, it was a pretty name.
"I love grave yards. It is a place were the living are not welcome." Kanato smiled as he looked at Chi. "I can see your soul glistening in this place." He lifted his hand up and gently stroked the side of her face. "Yet you seem to fit in well here. The dead are not rejecting you, it is almost as if they are welcoming you home. Isn't that strange?"
"Yes."
"Perhaps it is your hair. Black is the colour of sin after all but it is a colour both Teddy and I are fond of." There was silence as Chi didn't know how to respond. Kanato pulled his hand away from her face and Chi looked at the floor. She was still a little creeped out after finding out that they had killed their Mother. What kind of monster would do such a thing? It was then that Kanato began to sing. It was soft, beautiful but it also sent chills down Chi's spine. He was singing a song she knew, it was Scarborough fair. She had listened to the song a few times and she had liked it but it always had creeped her out a little. The way Kanato was singing it made it even more creepy but at the same time Chi's found herself thinking that he had the voice of an angel. She stood in silence watching him sing to his dead Mother, hypnotised by the beauty if it. When Kanato finished the grave yard become deadly silent once again and Kanato hugged Teddy closer and smiled.
"I never knew you could sing like that."
"That's because you haven't really got to know me." He replied. Get to know him? It was impossible to get to know someone like Kanato. He was too unpredictable, to quick to shut himself up. How was she meant to get to know him? "Mother liked it when I sang to her. It was the only time she really paid attention to me. She used to called me her little songbird, it annoyed me greatly. She only loved me when I sang."
"If you didn't like it then why do you still sing to her?"
"Because it made her happy." Kanato turned and began to walk away. "Let's go home now..."
