Kanato's dolls and Subaru's knife
Kanato and Chi walked side by side. They hadn't spoken since they left the graveyard. Chi didn't really know what to say or what to do. She just found out that Kanato murdered his own Mother, if he could do that then he would easily be able to kill her and Yui. Not that she really thought that he wouldn't do it before.
"Chi would you like to come and see my dolls?" He asked suddenly.
"O-okay." Said Chi. She knew that she was becoming scared of Kanato, he was insane and there was no way of knowing what he was going to do next but he seemed to have a very childish attitude. With the fact that he clings to Teddy and now he had dolls too. He wasn't the youngest of the 6 brothers but if you didn't know better then you would have thought that he was. Kanato smiled, happy to hear that she wanted too and he lead her through the house and into a room she had never been in before. Kanato walked in without turning the lights on. The room was pitch black and Chi couldn't really see anything. She could only see out lines of what looked like figures of many women.
"I often come here. I like this place."
"Um Kanato may I turn the lights on?" She asked.
"Why? Does the dark inconvenience you?"
"It's not that it's just that I can't see them very well without the light. My eyesight is not as good as yours."
"I see. Mortals truly are pathetic creatures. If you need it then you can turn the light on, right Teddy?" He asked. Despite his harsh tongue Chi felt her heart warm a little. He was letting her turn the light on after all, he wasn't doing that for himself. He was doing it because she asked him too. She weirded herself out a little with this way of thinking but turned the lights on never the less. The room instantly lit up and Chi gasped a little when she saw the beautiful life size figures. They were all in wedding dresses with pale skin. Kanato laughed. "Do you like them?" He asked her. Chi looked closer, they were very realistic. A bit too realistic for comfort.
"I do. They are beautiful but they have a rather eery feeling to them. Don't you think?"
"No I don't but that might be because I have spent so much time in here. I suppose you get used to it."
"So what are they made from? Wax?" She asked.
"Do you think we should tell her the truth Teddy?" Chi's eyes widened. That was a no, they weren't made from wax. What were they made from? Chi wasn't so sure she wanted that answer now. "Teddy says that the truth might scare you, is that true?"
"It depends on what the truth is."
"These dolls were sacrificial brides." Chi felt fear rise in her throat, she was going to be sick.
"S-so these dolls are...actually corpses?"
"That's right."
"You killed all of these people?"
"Yes, like you these mortals were my prey and when I finished with them I gave them a special place here. I made them look beautiful, is that not what you want Chi? Do you not want to become one of my dolls? Teddy would enjoy the company and you and I could be together forever."
"I don't think it really counts as being with someone forever if your dead." Said Chi backing up a little.
"You look so scared right now. I must say your scared face is wonderful, I can't believe you would hide such a wonderful look from me."
"I don't want to become one of your dolls."
"But Teddy and I promise to take good care of you. You can see that we have for all the others. You don't need to be scared of me Chi."
"That's where your wrong. I think the only way I can stay alive is to fear you." Kanato looked like he was going to cry and hugged Teddy closer to him.
"Chi is scared of us Teddy, what shall we do now? I don't want her to fear me, I want her to love me." Chi stopped moving backwards.
"T-to love you?"
"Yes. Teddy and I know that you are different from everyone else. You are something more than a mortal but we cannot work it out. What are you Chi?"
"I-I don't know. I believed that I was human but I'm starting to doubt that, there are things my Father kept from me...and Yui." Chi paused and her mind travelled back to what he had said before. "If you want me to love you then why treat me the way you do?"
"Don't you see? The things I do I do out of love. I do them because I want for you too stay by my side forever. Is that not love?"
"No, the only reason you want me by your side is too keep yourself fed. The moment you have had enough of me I will become just a doll. I will be dead and displayed like all these other people. To love someone is too want to protect them, not kill then and treat their corpses as toys."
"Like you and Yui?"
"Yes exactly, or like you and Teddy. You don't want Teddy to come to any harm because you love him, that's what love is."
"Maybe you are right. I don't love you in that way, perhaps I do not love you at all." She didn't really understand why but Chi felt her heart sink at his words. He didn't love her at all, why did that hurt so much more than any psychical pain he had caused her. His words cut through her heart like knives, they made we want to cry. What was this feeling? Why did it hurt so much? All Kanato had done was torture her so why did his words hurt her so much?
"That's probably the case." Chi said. Kanato tilted his head to the side and looked at her closely.
"Does it upset you that I do not love you?"
"No...no it doesn't."
"You lie so easily. Do you take pleasure in deceiving others?"
"No I don't. Okay the truth...it does a little."
"What does it mean if my words hurt you like that?"
"Your guess is as good as mine. I honestly don't know. I'm used to harsh words like that. I mean I was picked on at school for years because I was a little weird. People hated the way I seemed to appear out of nowhere. No one ever seemed to notice me, even when I had been in the room the whole time. It freaked people out and they didn't like it. They used to call me names, their favourite was ghost girl. It was a reference to my invisibility and my pale skin. I went through all that but I don't understand why hearing the words I don't love you hurt so much more than all of that. Then again perhaps it's the person saying it."
"Are you saying that you love me?"
"I don't really know what I'm saying. I've only known you two days so that can't be true."
"I have heard many times that mortals are creatures that feel a lot of emotions. You fall in love as quickly as you fall out of it. Therefore if you are telling me that you love me then your words mean nothing without proof."
"What do you mean proof?" Kanato walked past her and stopped by her side. He gave her a gentle smile.
"If I told you that it would take away the fun..."
Chi walked back to the house through the gardens alone. Kanato left after their conversation and she didn't know where he went. She kept thinking about what he had said. What did he mean by proof? What exactly did a guy like Kanato want as proof? Why was she even thinking about it? She didn't love him, she couldn't. He was a class A psychopath, what kind of weirdo would fall on love with someone like that? Chi stopped walking and sighed. She didn't know anything anyone, she didn't even know her own past. Was it even possible for someone that doesn't even know who or what they are to fall in love with someone else? Something about that just didn't seem to make a lot of sense. Chi looked up at the moon, it was full tonight and gleaming with a silvery glow that Chi found inviting. She always had been fond of the moon, she found it beautiful and amazing.
"What are you doing out here?" Chi whipped around to see who had spoken. She found Subaru stood not to far behind her with a scowl on his face. She was beginning to think that the wind had changed direction one day and that his face was now stuck in a perm permanent scowl.
"Nothing really." Said Chi. Subaru notice instantly that something was wrong. The girl that had stood up so bravely for her sister yesterday seemed to be gone. Instead she had been left with a love sick puppy that seemed to be deep in thought. He was a little tempted to ask her what the matter was but then he a attached the idea.
"If your not doing anything then get lost." He said coldly.
"You know I believe that it was you that told us yesterday that if we tried up escape we would be killed."
"So what if it was? Why would I care if you were dead or alive?" Chi glared at him. There was something about this guy that seemed to really get under her skin.
"So what is the deal with you? Is it that because your the youngest you feel the need to like prove to the world how manly you are?" Subaru hissed at her.
"Something like that is none of you concern."
"No of course not, I was just wondering if maybe you were compensating for something." Subaru hissed again and in a flash he was right in front of her.
"You know on a full moon vampires get particularly thirsty and we need to really quench it, so if you want to survive this night I suggest you stop running that big mouth of yours."
"I've got a big mouth? Do you listen to the stuff that comes out of your own?"
"You've taken this too far and now I want you're blood. Consider it an apology."
"Yeah no can do. Kanato will get really mad if I let you do that."
"You have no right to refuse me and the little manic isn't even here yet."
"Kanato is not a manic, given he is a little strange but I wouldn't call anyone in you family normal so just leave him alone."
"Just shut up and let my fangs sink into your neck." He did it without wanting for another word from her. His fangs pierced her neck and he felt the warm blood trickle onto his tongue. It was incredibly, he felt power surge inside him but it was so hot. If felt him lava running down his throat. It was sweet and delicious, he could understand why Kanato wanted to keep it all to himself. Chi sighed and looked up at the moon. Kanato would find out, one way or another and he would punish her again. She wondered what it would be like this time. Would he take he back down to the torture room? Or would he just decide that he had had enough of her and kill her on the spot. The worrying this was that Shuu and Reji still hadn't drank her blood. She was sure that they, like their brothers would come for it. Just to try it if anything. If Kanato didn't kill her after this he probably would if those two really did drink her blood. Subaru detached himself from Chi's neck and backed away from her. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a silver knife. Was that to kill her with? Chi thought. "I want you too take this." He said holding it out to her.
"Why would I accept that?"
"Because this is a very powerful weapon. It can kill vampires, one blow to the heart and that's it. The vampire disintegrates."
"Why would you be giving me a weapon could kill you with?"
"For that exact reason. If the time comes I want you to be the one to use this knife to stab. If you can't do that then you have to stab yourself in the heart instead.'
"What's led you think I would agree to something like that?"
"The fact that I know you would do anything to protect Yui."
"Why don't you just give it to her? She needs it more than I do."
"Maybe but if the time came I don't think Yui would be able to kill me where as I know you would."
"I don't know what have you that impression but I can't kill someone, even if they are annoying, rude vampire such as yourself."
"If that times comes I could put Yui in danger. Would you be able to kill to protect her?"
"Yes I would do anything for her." Subaru held the knife closer to her. She sighed and took it. "Alright fine I accept your terms but I have one condition of my own."
"And what would that be?"
"If that time does come I will stick to the agreement and kill you but until that day this knife remains with Yui. I understand that you vampires can kill us at any moment. I would be more at ease if I knew she had a weapon she could use to fight back with."
"Alright fine, you can give it to her. As long as you stick to the agreement."
"You have my word and I am not one to go back on my word..."
