Twenty Nine
It didn't take it long enough for me to handle the ins and out of the business industry.
DMBC Law Firm has indeed a lot to offer. Hindi siya simple o puchu-puchung kompanya lang.
I never thought that my biological parents have this company. It has several branches across the country.
I may have not that much knowledge on the law but I somehow know the basics of it. Well, thanks to our family lawyer, Atty. Dylan Bragancio.
For months, I have been living alone and am back in my house. Away from Romeo who happened to be living beside and is a neighbor of Amanda.
So far, what Amy and I have now is a recovering friendship.
She is that kind enough to let me explain everything to her and be rational about it.
It was one of the reasons why I loved her back then.
Now, I have the luxury of time to visit Romeo where our grandmother Lilibeth is currently staying.
Just as I entered his home, I heard him waking up Lola. And for some reason, I felt a weird and familiar presence of someone around. So, I kept silent as I observed.
"Lola, kain ka na muna." Romeo said in a gentle voice. "Dala ko paborito mong siomai!"
"Saan ba kayo nanggaling, mga apo?" nanghihinang sambit ni lola. "Akala ko ay kayo na ang dumating kanina. Wala ngang nasagot eh. Akala ko, nagbibiro na naman kayo."
That confirms my hunch.
Our grandmother has a way of knowing things beforehand.
"Aah, baka pusa lang na naligaw yun, 'la." Romeo said while darting a quick glance at me and opened the food container. "Tara na, upo ka na 'la para makakain ka na."
Inalalayan ni Romeo si Lola Lilibeth na umupo sa kama at sinubuan ito ng pagkain.
I nodded in acknowledgment and put myself on alert mode, rounding up the room. I quietly checked the restroom inside our grandma's room and peeked at the window to see if someone was scurrying out the fence.
I shook my head at Romeo and the latter nodded.
"Inom ka na ng tubig, 'la. Tapos magpahinga ka na ulet." Sabi ni Romeo sa malambing na tinig.
My eyes roamed around the room and caught the latch door unevenly closed.
I surely sensed someone was there but remained calm and alert.
"La, gusto mo magpahangin muna?" I spoke to divert her attention.
"Ay, gusto ko yan!" masayang wika ng kanilang lola.
"Sasamahan po kayo ni Romeo sa labas, 'la. Ako na po mag-aayos ng pinagkainan nyo at maglinis ng kwarto nyo." I smiled triumphantly at our grandma's happy smile.
"Pambihira. Siya yung nagsuggest, ako gagawa." Romeo muttered and held their grandmother's arms to assist her out of the room.
I chuckled and helped Romeo walked our grandma out of the room. "Go lang, brad."
As soon as the two were out of earshot, I closed the door and silently made his way to the secret room.
Nobody dared to come inside the room, let alone our grandmother's. That's why it was eeriely weird and puzzling who would know about this.
Armed with the extra cane of their grandma, I took a deep breath and pulled out the door latch.
Amanda, on the other hand, crept farther away from the door latch as soon as she heard Romeo's and their grandmother's footsteps went away. I know whoever it was, was well aware that I have left to look around for a possible trespasser.
There is a massive amount of firearms stored in there, and I prepared myself for it. I just hope the trespasser haven't discovered about the long cane beside the firearms cabinet.
I quietly crept inside the secret room with the cane on his grasp leading his way.
Still on my knees and chest, I craned my neck to see who's the perpetrator who has entered their base and my eyes grew wide when the long end of the cane met my gaze.
Amanda's eyes widened as well when she pointed the end of the cane at my neck.
The secret of the cane has been revealed.
It was not a simple cane. It was actually a cane sword which my late father prohibited him to use.
One swift move of Amanda would lead to her slitting my throat.
