Chapter Nineteen
It has been two months since I found out about my "special" powers, and things for me were only getting weirder. Draco seemed like he was terrified to come around me, and would turn the other way when I was around, especially in potions where we were partners. It wasn't as if I wanted him to talk to me or anything, I was still angry about the things he said about me to his friends, but I didn't want him to think I threw him across the room on purpose. The Slytherins were even being weird around me, and it was like the parting of the red sea when I walked down a corridor, with the exception of my brother of course.
Students in other houses were acting just as weird, and I found people were either frightened to be around me, or they thought I was some sort of freak. I was just ready to get this school year over with, and stay home with my family where I knew I would be ok. But there was still the one small issue of the final task that was happening today, and something inside of me was telling me this would not have a happy ending. Harry and I were tied for first place, and it wasn't as if either of us were playing to win, we both just wanted to walk away unscathed.
My powers seemed to have been manifesting or something, because whenever my emotions got out of control the things around me seemed to be affected. Fred and George made me laugh really hard one day at lunch, and that caused the windows in the great hall to shatter. Draco had spilled some potion into my lap by accident in class which angered me and all of the vials in the classroom had broken. If i wasn't paying attention a lot of the time, objects would start flying at my head, like I was summoning them without knowing.
Although it did come in handy sometimes when i needed something and didn't have my wand, I just looked across the room and my quill or my jacket would come flying into my hands. Hermione had been trying to help me control them the best she could, but with so much going on right now it wasn't exactly the top thing on my mind these days. I hadn't dared to control any other people since the day i controlled Moody, it seemed completely wrong and i promised myself I would never do it unless it was necessary. My friends and family were completely supportive of my newly found powers, and somehow I felt like it brought me and Harry closer together.
I had just finished tying my hair halfway up, when Harry had walked up beside me. We were all in the tent on the quiditch pitch just like the first task. My hands were shaking and I have never felt nerves like this in my life.I was completely terrified of this task, and i didn't have a clue what it was unlike the other two. "I'm scared Harry" I whispered turning to look at my raven haired friend. Harry looked at my through his round glasses and through his green eyes I could see fear as well. "Me too" He told me. Looking at Harry i couldn't control myself anymore, and through my arms around his neck and buried my face in his neck. I felt Harry stiffen before I felt his arms go around my waist and hug me tightly.
"It's time" I heard someone say from the tent's entrance. I let go of Harry to see Dumbledore along with Moody standing by the opening to the field. I grabbed Harry's hand in mine before following behind Fleur and Krum out onto the field, Cedric followed behind us. The second we walked out onto the field I could hear the cheers of the students along with a band that was playing some upbeat song. Harry's hand was becoming slick with sweat, but I held on tightly as it was making me feel better. Dumbledore was making some announcements to the crowd but I couldn't hear what he was saying as I was busy looking up at the gigantic hedge maze that was sitting in front of me.
It was probably fifteen feet tall, deep green with vines growing randomly along the top. There were five entrances along the semi circle, each with the crests or colors of our school. Three Hogwarts crests, two red and one yellow. One blood red crest of Durmstrang and one baby blue crest from Beauxbatons.I heard the crowds cheers die down as Harry and i were asked to walk up to our places in front of the two red crests. I let go of his hand at the last second before holding my hand steady and walking through the opening to the over grown maze. I turned back to see the students in the stands, Dumbledore and professor Moody, but then they all disappeared as the maze overgrew itself and i was closed in.
I shivered and rubbed my arms with my hands before making my way down the pathway into darkness. I illuminated my wand and stepped over some downed roots, I knew we were supposed to look for the cup that was supposedly in the center of all of this, but all i was seeing was dark, and all I would hear was the occasional movement in the maze around me. I walked the slowest I have in my life, terrified something would jump out at me at any second. I came to my first turn, left or right?
I shrugged and walked down the pathway to my right, and it was just as dark and creepy as the path I was on before. I heard a loud scream sound from up ahead "Fleur" I whispered before taking off running in that direction, the more I picked up speed the busier the shrubs around me became. I leaped over some branches that stretched out on the ground trying to trip me. I heard her scream again only this time it sounded louder and closer than before. "Fleur!" I shouted this time, trying to help her even though she was my competition. But I found myself at another crossroads, and a choice of which direction to choose.
I stood bouncing on my toes as I waited for her to scream again, and she did, it came from my left. I ran quicker than before hoping that something or someone wasn't in here trying to harm her. But when I came around another corner I ran right into something hard. I expected to fall backwards from the impact and hit the ground, but it never came, instead two large hands wrapped themselves around my arms holding me up. I was so on edge I almost screamed the second they touched me, but stopped myself when I saw it was just Viktor.
"Sorry Viktor, I'm looking for Fleur" I said quickly trying to remove his tight hands from my arms. "You can let me go now" I said with a nervous chuckle, looking up into his eyes. I gasped realizing something was wrong with him, this wasn't the Viktor I had grown accustomed to over these months. His eyes were glazed over and completely white, and a snarl was evident on his tanned face. Viktor removed his hands from arms, and i rubbed them slightly, I went to walk past him but instead found myself pushed against the mazed wall with Viktors hands at my throat.
I gasped for air and gripped his tight hands that were cutting off my air."Viktor please" I whimpered out in ragged breaths. I couldn't breath, I could feel myself growing light headed with every breath I tried to take. Viktors face was stoic as he cut off my wind pipe, and my toes were just barely grazing the ground. I didn't even have the energy to try and stop him mentally with my new found powers, instead I just closed my eyes. "Stupefy" I heard someone shout, and soon Viktor was shot backwards and I crumpled to the ground gasping for air.
I held onto my neck, wincing at the sensitivity of the skin, and coughed loudly and violently. Someone's arms wrapped around me and lifted me gently to a standing position. I looked up into the bright green eyes that were Harry's. I cried and threw my arms around him thankful he saved me from Viktor. "Harry, thank you!" i cried into his ear and tightly held my arms around his neck. "Are you ok?" he whispered in my ear. I pulled away and gently nodded my head and grabbing my wand that had fallen to the ground. "He's bewitched, I had to keep Cedric from killing him not too long ago" Harry told me as we turned around to head back into the maze.
Suddenly the wind picked up and i felt my hair flying rapidly behind me. Behind us I saw the maze started to close in on us. "Harry run!" i shouted and grabbed his arm for us to keep running before we got sucked into the abyss of the maze. We ran for what felt like forever before the wind finally stopped and we could catch our breath. I held my knees gasping for air, but something to my right caught my eye, it was the cup....large and glowing blue just sitting on a platform waiting for one of us to claim it. But someone else had the same idea, as Cedric was standing in front of me, looking wide eyed from the cup to Harry and I.
The wind picked up and the three of us took off running towards our prize, shoving each other purposefully and accidentally every few seconds. A branch came out and tripped me, causing me to fall forward onto Cedric, bringing him down onto the ground with me. Several more branches had come out and were holding Cedric and I to the ground. I groaned and tried hard to get off of the ground, but the two of us were stuck. Cedric was calling out for Harry who had run towards the cup. "Harry!" I called out for him. Harry turned around quickly and his eyes went wide seeing me struggling on the ground beside out classmate.
For a moment I thought Harry was going to turn around and leave us laying here, but I knew better than that. Harry shot a spell at the plants and then quickly ran to our aid. Cedric and I helped each other off the ground before the wind started to slow down again. Harry ran over to help me and all three of us stood wondering what to do seeing as the end was sitting right beside us. "Lets all grab it" I said finally over the quiet. Harry and Cedric nodded before all three of us latched onto the Tr-Wizard cup.
I felt myself being whisked away to someplace knew, the familiar feeling of using a port key. I looked around at our new surroundings and frowned knowing this place was no friend to us, and we were all in deep trouble...
