Chapter 6. Childhood Crush

Aya.

Michael Jackson has been apart of my life ever since I was a little girl, I adored him and the Jackson 5. When I first saw the Jackson 5 I came back from school very angry because I got in trouble for something I didn't do. A classmate of mine who sat beside me in class stole the teacher's notebook, when the teacher came back from the toilet she notice that her notebook was gone, she was very annoyed and yelled at the top of her lungs when everyone giggled. She demanded to know who stole her notebook but no one would fess up, she searched everyone's bags and desks. When it came to search my bag nothing was there she looked around my desk, as she was under my desk she grabbed something that seemed to be her notebook. Once she got up she glared at me dead in the eye, I knew I was in deep trouble. She grabbed my ear, pulled it really hard and dragged me to the principal's office were I got scowled really bad.

I came home pissed, I turned on the TV nothing good was on, as I kept flicking through the channels I stumbled upon American bandstand and saw these five boys performing a song I've never heard before, the song was very catchy so catchy that I tried to sing along. They were so amazing and the kid that was singing lead was incredible just look at the way he moved. I was hypnotized by the magic that was playing right before me.

After that one moment I immediately became a fan, as the Jackson 5's fame grew and grew my love for them grew more and more. I bought all their albums including the albums that weren't as great like skywriter, I had posters of them all over my bedroom wall, I bought the alpha bits cereal just because they were in the commercial. My whole life was devoted to the Jackson 5, I became this crazy obsessive fan girl .

The first time I heard Michael's first solo album got to be there  I instantly fell in love with Michael, that soft voice, his charms and his charisma, he was just breathtaking. When I realized I had this celebrity crush on Michael, all the posters in my room that had Michael on it had a love heart drawn around his head with red magic marker.

When the Jackson 5 became the Jacksons I was still this crazy fan, but I was truly heartbroken when Jermaine left the band and stayed with Motown. I remember myself and Ephie went to new York to see the Jacksons live in concert when they were on their Destiny tour, we sat in the middle row, once they came out we all lost our minds. The moment I saw Michael I almost had a heart attack, he was so sexy and remarkable. My dreams came true, my childhood crush on stage singing his heart out nothing could top this moment (or so I thought). It was the best concert ever.

When I started college and got a part time job in the art building, I had saved up enough money to by  Michael's new album off the wall , once I bought it, I danced out of the store and skipped down the street as I was skipping down the street with a huge smile on my face, the people walking past stared at me like I was some sort of maniac, but I didn't care I just bought Michael Jackson's off the wall album. When I got home the first thing I did was put on the album on my record player, once don't stop 'till you get enough played I danced around my apartment like there was no tomorrow.

It was my second week in the art building and I got along with the kids pretty quickly. We were in the classroom drawing our imaginations the room got too quiet, so I decided to add a little music, I turned on the radio coincidentally Michael's song from off the wall played, it was workin' day and night . We danced all around the place until Johnny came in and saw us dancing, as soon as he laughed we all stopped in embarrassment. Johnny came to give Cecil his lunch, then Cecil said something that caught my attention.

"My dad use to be the drummer for the Jackson 5 back in the day". I stared at Johnny with happiness while smiling with delight.

"Really", I added.

"Yes", Johnny replied.

Afterward I started asking Johnny these fan girl questions, like what's Michael's favorite color and what did Michael eat for dinner. I was piling him up with random questions which eventually made him feel uncomfortable, but I couldn't help it, I was a big fan for years and I've never met anyone who worked with them. There I was bugging Johnny for some answers not knowing that I will meet Michael Jackson face to face in years to come.
