Kendall was freaking out, like, badly. After patting her armpits with tissues and putting on many layers of deodorant, she felt the best she was gonna get. The butterflies in her stomach were driving her insane, but at least she looked good.

Wearing her hair in a ponytail, Kendall wore a black, short sleeve, flowy dress with a yellow belt around her waist. She couldn't forget jewelry, so she opted for yellow earrings and a yellow necklace that she "borrowed" from her mother. Unfortunately she didn't have yellow shoes to top it all off, so she was stuck with her black Doc Martens that made her just a bit more taller than she already was.

"You look beautiful." Her mother said out of nowhere as Kendall looked at herself in the mirror to put on lip gloss, which made her jump a little.

"Geez, mom." Kendall turned to face her. "You scared me."

"Is that my jewelry?" She pointed, feeling as if the earrings and necklace looked familiar. Remember, "borrowed".

"What? No." Kendall lied.

"If you say so. When's the lucky girl coming?" Her mom asked in excitement. She genuinely was happy for her daughter. She had always been supportive of her journey, and finding love even if it was just a date to the dance was the cherry on top of it all.

Kendall grabbed her purse for the night and pulled out her phone, the time reading a quarter after seven. "She should be here in about fifteen minutes. At least that's what she told me."

"You seem nervous." Her mom pointed out, which she wasn't wrong about. Mother's do know best, after all.

"Nervous is an understatement." Kendall nervously laughed.

"Need a pep talk?" She offered.

"Shockingly, no." Kendall replied. "I have a motto to follow."

"And that is?" Her mother questioned.

"Go for it and never look back." She smiled. Yes, it was the same advice Michelle gave her all the way back in D.C., and she would let it follow her for a very long time.

"Well, I'll be downstairs waiting for your date." Her mother said, being a bit of a tease at the mention of the word date.

"Alright." Kendall sighed.

"Love you."

"Love you too." And with that, Kendall's mom left the room, leaving the door cracked enough so she could hear whenever she would be called down.

Kendall sat on her bed, playing with her phone as she waited for her mom to say that Michelle was here. She genuinely couldn't wait to see her dress, but she also couldn't wait for Michelle to see what she was wearing too. She also prayed that she wouldn't outshine her, but Michelle was already beautiful, so there was no competition there.

As Kendall waited, multiple thoughts flooded through her head at the worst possible timing. What if she gets stood up? What if this was all a joke? These were the last things she wanted to think about when Michelle was minutes away from arriving at her house.

Kendall forced herself up and took some deep breaths, looking at herself in the mirror in a last minute attempt to motivate herself. "You got this, Kendall. You landed this date and you're gonna have the time of your life. You-"

"Honey! Your date's here!" Kendall's mom yelled from downstairs, interrupting her little self pep talk.

"Why did she have to call me honey in front of her?" She groaned. "Here goes nothing, I guess."

Kendall grabbed her purse, checked herself one last time then exited her room, shutting the door behind her. Right around the corner and down the stairs was Michelle standing at the front door with her mom, and Kendall wasn't quite sure if she could do this without fucking up.

She took a deep breath and went down the stairs, not even daring to make eye contact as she was way too focused on trying to not fall down the stairs. Once she made it down the stairs without falling, Kendall adjusted herself then looked up to see Michelle in a yellow floral dress and black converse to top it all off. She notably had her hair in a ponytail like she always does, but Kendall wasn't complaining one bit.

Kendall walked up to her while trying to keep her cool, feeling her cheeks burn bright red as she stood next to her mom. Her mom took out her phone to take a picture, as all moms would do.

"Why don't I take a picture of you two?" She asked, and Kendall immediately had to deny the offer as she was already embarrassed enough by how hard she was blushing by the sight of Michelle.

"Actually, we have to go, so-"

"What? But-"

Kendall took Michelle's hand without thinking and began to walk out the door, even though her mother tried stopping her. "We'll take pictures at the dance, bye!"

"Ken-" She got interrupted by the door slamming her in face, and she gave in that there was no use insisting on a picture. She could never win with those types of things. Besides, she knew the feeling of a mother forcing pictures upon her children, even if she couldn't resist a good photo.

Kendall took a deep breath after closing the door, and all Michelle could do was laugh at the interaction that just happened. Still holding onto her hand, Kendall realizes that she was in fact holding Michelle's hand and quickly let go to spare herself more embarrassment. Way to fuck up already, huh?

"I'm sorry, I-" She began, but Michelle quickly cut her off and assured her that it was okay.

"No worries." Michelle said. "I don't mind."

"Oh, uh-" Kendall stuttered. "Where's your car?"

"That beauty right there." Michelle replied, pointing over to a busted up, gold Chevy Lumina that looked like it had been through the ringer. Kendall noticed that there was absolutely no one in the driver's seat, which would make sense as to why Michelle didn't text her at all on the way here.

"You drive?" She questioned. "How?"

"I have my permit and my mom trusts me to drive her car." Michelle shrugged. "It's a tad bit illegal, but I haven't crashed yet, so. I definitely don't recommend it though."

"Oh, well, I trust you to not kill us before we even make it to the dance." Kendall joked.

"Good. Let's go." Michelle said then took Kendall's hand, the roles now being reversed. Kendall wasn't sure whether this was a platonic thing or not, but she craved every second of it.

The two girls headed over to Michelle's car, and Michelle, trying to be nice, opens the passenger door for Kendall, who gladly thanks her with a smile. She then gets in to the drivers seat, not forgetting to put on her seat belt. If she was gonna drive illegally she might as well do it safely.

Michelle turns on the ignition, which was louder than Kendall expected. It was a pretty old car, probably at least 15 years old, so it didn't run like a newer car would. "You ready?"

"Ready as I'll ever be." Kendall replied, holding her purse in her lap and silently praying in her head. Michelle then prepares "for blastoff" as she just called it, then drove off, heading over to the school.

In all honesty, Kendall expected Michelle to be a chaotic driver, but she was surprisingly a calm and responsible driver. She kept her eyes on the road, she didn't speed, and she didn't have to slam the brakes at every stop. It was definitely better than being in the car with her dad, so she would take this over that any day.

"I forgot to mention." Michelle said out of nowhere, still focusing on the road. "You look great tonight."

"Thanks." Kendall blushed. "You too."

Luckily Kendall's house wasn't too far from the school, so they made it to the dance fairly quickly. Finding a parking spot was more of a challenge as the parking lot was quite literally flooded with cars, but they managed to find a spot somewhere in the middle of everything.

They got out of the car, and Kendall realized something now that they were actually at the school. "You realize people are going to look at you weird cause we're together, right?"

"So?" She shrugged. "Let them stare"

"Well, it's just because I'm-"

"Look, I said yes for a reason." Michelle interrupted. "Remember what I told you? Ya know, back in D.C.?"

"Go for it and never look back." Kendall recited.

"Exactly." She said then took Kendall's hand once more. "Let's go."
