Let Me Go, Rock and Roll
This is it. I'm actually here. My very first KISS concert! Whoa, this place is packed! Wait, what am I saying? It's stinkin' KISS for crying out loud! Of course it's packed! "Don't worry, Little Caesar. You're definitely getting some foxy love tonight." I say to myself, as I browse the multitude of merchandise and food displays. Naturally, it's a massive makeup mixer; I'm in full Fox makeup myself, and apparently I'm not the only one. I see a solid handful of Foxes and Vixens, and even a few Fox kits. Even the kids get it. Sweet! To my surprise, I even spot a decent number of Ankh Warrior fans. Not my cup of Egyptian tea, but hey, to each their own! Whether they're a member of the Fox Den, the Space Force, or even the Star Soldiers, the KISS Army has many ranks; there's room for everyone.
I slowly wandered the stalls, chatting with other fans and taking pictures. Suddenly, someone bumped into me from behind, sending me sprawling. "Whoa, I got you!" a voice said. I looked up, straight into the eyes of none other than the Starchild himself: Paul Stanley. I hadn't even realized that I was so close to the VIP area. Sweet Detroit Rock City! "Are you ok?" he asked kindly as he helped me get my footing. "Yes, I'm ok. Just a little shaky." I said, giving him a weak smile. "Well, why don't we find you a place to chill out for a while? We don't hit the stage for another couple of hours." he said with a grin, as he led me to the private area where the band was getting ready before the concert. "I don't believe we've been properly introduced, darlin. I'm Paul Stanley, a.k.a. Starchild, the KISS Casanova." Paul said with a romantic pout. "I'm S-Suzy." I stammered, blushing like mad. "Nice to meet you, Suzy. I bet the guys would love to meet you. Hey, fellas! Get your rockstar butts in here! I've got somebody I want ya to meet!" he yelled out into the hallway.
There was the sound of three doors opening and three pairs of platform boots coming down the hall as Gene, Eric and Tommy filed into the room. "Guys, this is Suzy. She totally fell for me." Paul joked. "Of course she did, Mr. Casanova." Gene smirked, rolling his eyes and tongue at the same time. "No, I really did! Somebody bumped into me from behind and he just happened to be around to catch me. I'm a grade-A klutz sometimes." I said quietly, hoping they wouldn't think I was some wimpy little girl. "Don't sweat it, tiger. We're all like that sometimes. Honestly, it's a miracle we haven't broken our necks with all the walking and dancing around we do in these giant platform nightmares!" Eric smiled, lifting one of his famous boots off the floor. "I see we've got a little vixenette on our hands, boys." Gene mused, noticing my makeup. Oh boy. I was afraid of this. Please, please, please don't be mad! "Nice makeup!" Tommy said, smiling kindly at me. "Thanks, Tommy. You don't mind, do you, Eric? You two might not be the O.G. Catman and Spaceman, but you're MY Catman and Spaceman. And Eric C. will always be my Fox, even though I never knew him..." I whispered to myself. "That means a lot, Suzy. And I know Eric would have loved to meet you too." Eric said with a smile.
"Yeah, you seem like a sweet kid. Little Caesar would've loved ya." Gene added. "That was a really sweet nickname you gave him, Gene." I said, looking knowingly at him. "You know, it's kinda funny how I became a member of the KISS Army. I had heard "Detroit Rock City", "Shout It Out Loud" and "Rock N' Roll All Nite" before, but it wasn't until I happened to watch "Scooby-Doo and KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery" that I realized that you guys had some major musical chops! Modern Day Delilah is one of my top 3 favorite songs, next to "Beth" and "Psycho Circus". Tommy, your solo is out of this world! It's my favorite part." I said happily, smiling sheepishly at him. "Aw, thanks, hon. It's one of my favorites, too!" he said graciously. "I actually wrote an essay on your evolution for my first semester of college English. I had a lot of fun writing it and it was very informative. I barely knew anything about you guys before, and now I'm in the KISS Army! I hope you guys don't mind." I finished quickly. "Of course we don't mind, darlin! We're honored to have inspired your essay." Paul said. "How would you like to watch the show from the pit? No fans have ever had access to it. You wanna be the first?" he asked. "I'd love to! But you don't have to go all out for me, I'm just another fan!" I exclaimed, now feeling kind of embarrassed. "Anything for the gal who immortalized us in college-level prose!" Eric laughed.
The pit was amazing. Amazingly loud, that is! Thank goodness for heavy-duty headphones! Just before they wrapped up the concert with "Rock N' Roll All Nite", I caught Tommy's eye and he winked as they launched into "Modern Day Delilah". Best concert ever. Tommy had just started his solo when I felt something hit the side of my head. Hard. I didn't even have time to react before I collapsed on the ground. And this time, nobody was here to catch me.
