Saved,
The welcome back party was awesome. Everyone in town was invited, and everyone in the town came. Even Pacifica was there, and spent the whole time pretending to not enjoy herself.
Pacifica was sitting on the edge of the crowd, tapping her foot and trying to look bored. She was also trying to not notice McGucket, who was jigging around, practically flaunting his ownership of her house. A scowl contorted her face, and she glared at everyone in the crowd. Of course it was harder to scowl when she had a party popper shoved into her mouth, by the hand of Mabel.
"Pacificaaaaa! Hey girl, I made you a sweater. Do you like it?" Mabel said while holding up a sky blue sweater with silver swirls all around a llama in the middle.
"Wow Mabel!" Pacifica said, turning a bit pink with embarrassment. "Thank you! It's so pretty."
"OooOooOohhhh.... it looks like the dress you're wearing! How cray cray is that?!" Mabel handed the sweater to her, and spun on her heel to join a forming Congo line.
Why was Mabel being so nice? After all, Pacifica had bullied her last summer, and now all she needed was a friend that wasn't just there for her when she was rich. No one wanted to be with her anymore. They all looked down on her and her family, and she didn't want to act fake and mean anymore, but didn't know how to do it. Pacifica decided to ask Mabel if she wanted to hang out during the summer. She seemed nice. Pacifica was pretty sure Mabel would still like her if she wasn't rich.
Then Pacifica saw someone she hadn't seen in this town before. She was standing to the side of the party, fiddling with her hair, and squirming in her clothes. Forget Mabel! Pacifica thought, I can make a friend that doesn't know who I used to be! I can start with a clean slate, and discover the new me.
So she approached the girl and said,
"Are you new here?" The girl looked startled, and stepped back.
"Yeah, I just got here." She mumbled.
Pacifica grinned. This would be perfect. "I'm Pacifica Northwest, pleased to meet you. I was wondering if you wanted to me to show you around town?" She wavered near the end of her sentence.
"Yeah, I guess....." the other girl's voice also trailed off, matching the way Pacifica said her words.
"Great! I'll pick you up at, let's say 1:00 tomorrow. Oh, what is your name?"
"Cassiopeia. I know it's long and stuff but you can call me by a nickname if you want to."
"Sounds great, I'll just call you..." Pacifica paused, trying to think of an appropriate name for this girl. "Cass."
The two talked about the party, with Pacifica pointing out people, giving Cassiopeia a rude rundown of the people in the town. Soon the party was over, and both girls felt a large amount of satisfaction that they had made a new friend.
As they parted, Pacifica realized she didn't know where the other girl lived.
"Hey, where am I picking you up from?" Her mouth dropped open when she heard the response.
"The big house on the hill. I'm staying with my Great Uncle Fiddleford."
