Crack. Crack. Pop.

"Have a good evening!!" Your coworker Sasha said.

"Thanks, I will!!" You reply, waving.

You step out of the tech support block, and make your way over to the large double doors that act as an exit in this place. Smiling, you finally reached them and push them open, stepping out into a cold winter world. You pull on your pea coat and gloves, then walk out, savoring the crisp fresh air. It's a little dry though.

Just how you like it.

With a sigh, you stepped down the steps and onto the neighboring sidewalk. You smile, the thought of going home and cuddling under a massive pile of blankets and pillows pleasing you.

You absentmindedly walk down the sidewalk, each step bringing you closer to a warm and cozy sleep. You hear footsteps follow close behind you. Thinking nothing of it, you merely continued walking, turning down a street that only you use at this time of day. But the footsteps follow you. You turn back, yet find nothing.

"Ha ha, very funny Sasha.", You spoke, chuckling. After all, Sasha was the prankster at your work, so something like this seemed like something she would do. " You can come out now."

No response.

"Come on Sasha, joke's over."

More silence. You were starting to get worried at this point.

"Sasha? Hey, this isn't funny anymore!!" You spoke, your voice rising in pitch.

After standing there for another couple of minutes, you gathered the courage and turn back, walking away. You still feel uneasy, though.

You could feel your heart pounding. In fact, you were sure that it was pounding so hard, that if you looked down at your chest, you would see a small bump rise up and down cartoonishly for every single heartbeat.

You shiver again, but this time not because of the cold. As you make my way farther down the empty street, it becomes darker. Finally, the street lights switch on, illuminating the path before you, but not fully. Your pace quickens.

You wanted get home, and fast.

Though, a small part of you was still paranoid that you were being followed. Your paranoia only increases as you continue walking, then you eventually break, and peer behind yourself to look and see if someone was indeed following you.

Oh, how you wished you hadn't.

For, standing underneath the light of the street lamp behind you, was a figure, it's head cocked to the side in an unsettling way. It's whole body, in fact, was slumped to the side. It's eyes were shadowed over, only leaving black, void-like holes instead.

But one thing stood out the most about the figure.

It was staring right at you.

You shivered, afraid and confused of the figure. 'Maybe it's someone new who moved here, and they're going home, just like you!' You told yourself in an attempt to make yourself feel better.

It wasn't working very well. You still shook at the thought of what the figure might want with a person like yourself.

A sound rings out.

A very sickening sound.

The sound of bones being snapped.

Crikk!! Crikk!! Pop!!

You looked around yourself, praying that the source of the noise was not the figure. But alas, you find nothing, and had no choice but to turn back towards the figure.

But this time.... Something about it looks... How do you say... Different....?

You can't quite put your finger on it though...

You squint, closely examining said figure, searching for any differences.... Stance, postu-

Wait! There!

It's head is now cocked to the other side, and it's arm appears to be... reaching for you??? You blink, and the figure reverts back to normal.

... Or did it? Was the figure ever different in the first place??

'No no, of course not, it's just your mind playing tricks on you, that's all.' You reasoned with yourself. You gave one last wary look at the figure. It was still in its static position.

Finally, you turn back, walking about a foot or so, then stop. That horrid noise rang out once more, making you want to gag.

Crikk!! Crikk!! Pop!!

This time, you turned back towards the figure immediately, not taking the time to question whether or not that really was the figure, for you already knew it was.

Facing the figure, you noticed that its arm was reaching towards you, and with it's head cocked to the opposite side... You blinked, but this time....

The figure did not revert back to normal.

No, instead, it was.... Closer!?

You blink once again, and the figure loomed ever closer.

You stepped back and looked behind yourself quickly, checking for any possible obstacles that may hinder you.

When you turned back, the figure was even closer. The street lamp the illuminated it flickered off, and as did the one you were standing under. Trembling, you run to the next light, only running faster when you heard rapid footsteps trail closley behind you.

You could hear the footsteps growing closer to yourself, and you were growing slower. You spotted the street you lived on, and put on a burst of speed. You quickly reached your house, pulling out your keys, whilst checking on the figure behind yourself. It was around 20 feet away from you.

You fumbled around with your keys, trying to find the one that belonged to your house. The figure was now around 15 feet away.

You were on the verge of tears, focusing on unlocking the door. The door to safety.

10 feet.

In a panic, you accidentally drop your keys, a feeling of horror crashing down on you as you feel them slip from out of your fingers.

8 feet.

You quickly reach down, thankfully grabbing the key that belonged to the lock in front of you.

5 feet.

You quickly slide it into the lock and open the door, slamming it shut behind yourself, which resulted in a loud 'thump!' as the figure crashed into the door.

You fall to the floor in front of the door in exhaustion, the adrenaline fading from your system as you pant heavily, all of your body feeling as though it were on fire. But you were happy that you were still alive.

You freeze as you hear a creak, signaling that the door was being opened.

You lay there as you make a horrifying realization.

You forgot to lock the door behind you.

You let out a shrill, short lived scream as everything fades black, and you become silent, never to make a noise again.

This is what happens when I'm given free time and am told to write some suspense.

Funny thing is, I'm going to be reading this to my class sometime this week.

Do you guys think that this is good enough to scare a classroom consisting mostly of 13 year old boys and 5 13 year old girls???

Comment what you think!!!
