The Way Things Are

She never meant to live this life. It just sort of happened. She got so tangled up in it all, and she felt like she had no other choice.

But, of course, the secrets she held threatened to conflict with her life with the Winchesters. After the ghoul attack, Sam and Dean were all she had. And she'd do anything to protect them.

She'd do anything to protect them from her secrets.

It wasn't the nightmares. They knew of her nightmares. The nightmares that caused her to thrash and flail in her sleep. She always says she dreamt of her family being torn apart.

It's all a lie. A big web of unavoidable lies. For she knew the truth would be hard to swallow. That's just the way things are. Impossible to stomach.

"So get this," Sam spoke up after endless deafening silence. "Osborn, Mississippi. A string of deaths that sound suspiciously like vampires. Three vics, drained of all their blood. There were bite marks on their necks, and this all adds up to vamps."

"Awesome, let's hit the road." Dean declared.

They all jumped in the Impala and made for Osborn, the location of all sorts of hellish nightmares just waiting to be discovered.

They arrived in Osborn. They checked into a motel and left their belongings there. They decided to check out the most recent death, Victoria Winters. Her mangled corpse was found in an abandoned warehouse on Baker Street.

Felicity was never comfortable around blood. She used to be able to handle it, but now she tries to avoid it. And not for the reasons you might think.

Sam, Dean, and Felicity approached one of the officers. "Hello, my name is Agent Plant. These are my partners Agent Page and Agent Bonham." Sam introduced, the three of them showing the officer their fake IDs.

"Aren't you a bit young to be an agent, Miss Bonham?" The officer asked Felicity.

"Yes, yes I am. I'm what you might call a child prodigy. Graduated early, and I thought I'd put this brain to good use."

The officer nodded in understanding. "Well, good for you. You're here about the recent string of murders, I assume?"

"Yes," Sam confirmed. "There have been three murders, correct?"

"Yes. But none of them have turned out quite like this. That poor girl. There's hardly any of her left."

"Any connection between the victims?" Dean asked.

"None so far. But we are doing our best."

"I'm sure you are," Felicity spoke softly. "Do you have any leads, any indication of what might have happened here?"

"Not a clue. Although, there was a passerby who said she heard something."

This was definitely enough to intrigue the three even further. "And who was this passerby?" Dean asked.

"Donna Reed. She happened to be walking nearby when she thought she heard a scream. She came in here to investigate, and, well, I'm sure you can piece it all together."

"Did she happen to see anything?" Felicity asked.

"I, I don't know. She isn't making a lick of sense. She keeps talking about... eyes."

"Eyes?" Sam repeated. "What kind of eyes?"

"It's rather unclear. She's going through a bit of trauma. She keeps saying, 'I saw his eyes'. That's all we can get out of her."

"Where is she now?" Felicity asked. "Perhaps we can get her talking sensical."

"We have her in an interrogation room over at the station. It's a quick drive, five to ten minutes tops."

"Alright, then. Let's go."

Dean, Sam, and Felicity were discussing their theories on this Donna character.

"His eyes. She was talking about his eyes. Maybe they were black. Could've been a demon." Felicity suggested.

"Yeah, but demons and vamps working together? Sounds a bit farfetched." Dean said.

"What else could she mean? 'I saw his eyes'?"

"We'll just have to talk to her and find out." Sam concluded.

They all went into the interrogation room to meet Donna. She kept mumbling to herself like a nutcase.

"Donna Reed?" Sam asked. She didn't even look up at him. "My name is Agent Plant. These are my partners, Agent Page and Agent Bonham. Do you mind if we ask you a few questions about the murder of Victoria Winters?"

"Sam, I think the problem here is actually getting answers." Dean muttered, Sam shooting him a bitchface.

"What do you expect from a civilian?" Felicity glanced over at them. "She's in shock. She just witnessed a brutal murder, possibly by... unnatural means."

"I saw his eyes." Donna muttered.

Felicity approached her and spoke with a soothing voice. "Donna, what did his eyes look like?"

"His eyes. I saw his eyes." Her voice broke.

Felicity stooped to Donna's eye level. "Donna, I know it scared you. I know it did. But you've got to cooperate with us. Can you tell us about his eyes?"

Donna looked to her with wild eyes. "Glowing."

"Glowing? Can you describe the glowing?"

"Blue. Glowing, blue eyes. They lit up. He dragged him away."

"Dragged him away? Who dragged who away?"

"The blue eyed man dragged the body away. And he left the sharp toothed girl dead. Cut off her head, first thing he did. Then he... mangled her up, like he was... hiding something. Didn't want nobody to... find her like that. Head cut clean off. First thing he did. Her teeth was sharp. Mighty sharp. Like steak knives. I may look like some crazy southerner, but I knows what I saw. You believe me, don't ya?"

The three of them exchanged glances with one another. "Ms. Reed. Can you tell us where this blue eyed man went?"

"I-I dunno. Like he disappeared."

"Okay. Thank you for your time."
