The End Is Nigh

._.__.~Castiel~.__._.

Under the tree were an assortment of gifts. The only ones that were decently wrapped were the ones from Felicity. Dean, Sam, and I had no idea how to wrap these things.

I didn't really know what the boys would want, so I "winged it". For Felicity, however, I tried my very best. It had to be something special, a gift she'd not easily forget.

We were all opening the gifts, and I patiently awaited her opening mine. As I waited, I opened my own presents.

From Sam, I got a strange cube. On it's six sides, there were different colored stickers. One side would have red, one would have white, and so on. The cube consisted of smaller cubes, all stacked up to form it's shape.

"It's a Rubix cube," He tried to explain. "It's like a puzzle cube. You rearrange the sides so the colors get mixed up, then you have to put it back together."

I twisted the top of the cube, which was white, and aligned the sides so the colors were slightly mismatched. I didn't really see the point in this "puzzle cube".

Felicity took the cube and quickly twisted all the sides around, the colors becoming completely mixed. There were an assortment of colors on all the sides.

She handed it back to me. "Now match up all the colors." She grinned.

I stared down at the cube for a while, until I opened my present from Dean. He got me a "movie set". It was a trilogy known as Back To The Future.

"Are they enjoyable?" I asked him.

"Yeah, they're friggin awesome!" He chuckled.

"And it is about a man who travels back in time and tears the fabric of the time/space continuum?"

He nodded. "Pretty much, yeah. He gets in the way of his parents meeting, and he has to hook them up before he disappears. That's the first one. In the sequel, he goes the the year 2015 and sees his own future. I don't really remember that one very well, but the third one! It's the definition of awesome! It's a bit hard to explain unless you've seen the second one, but Marty and Doc go to the old west! It's a great set of movies!"

I half smiled at his enthusiasm. I admired his passion for human culture. Movies, music, all the things he adored, I admired him for that. "I look forward to watching them."

Felicity handed me a present. "This one's from me." She smiled.

I ripped off the wrapping paper and opened the small box. Inside were two necklaces. One had a small key; the other had a heart with the shape of the key carved out of the side, so it could be inserted, and engraved in the heart was "Only The Key Holder Can Unlock My Heart". It was beautiful.

"Do you like it?" Felicity asked.

I smiled brightly and looked to her. "I love it. I... I don't know what to say."

She pressed her lips to mine, her hand at the back of my neck. I returned the kiss, cupping her face in my hand that wasn't holding the necklaces.

After a few moments, we were interrupted by the sound of Dean clearing his throat loudly. We separated, looking around awkwardly. Soon our eyes met, and we smiled.

"Let me help you with your necklace, key holder." Felicity grinned.

She took the necklace with the key and helped me put it on. The small charm fell just below the knot in my tie.

I studied the heart carefully before looking back to Felicity. "And this one? Would you like me to... help you with it?"

She smiled and nodded. She pulled her hair back as I put the necklace on her. The charm fell just below her clavicle. It looked exquisite on her. It didn't surprise me.

I looked into her eyes. "You look... beautiful." I smiled.

She smiled back. She glanced over at the gifts under the tree. "Which one's mine?"

I leaned forward and picked up the gift I automatically knew was hers. There was much more tape on it than I'd care to admit. I felt anxious as she opened it.

"It's not nearly as touching as your gift to me, I'm ashamed to say."

"Don't be ridiculous." She chuckled. She unwrapped it, and opened the box. She gaped at the gift, and I wasn't sure if that was good or bad.

"Do you like it?" I asked nervously.

She looked at me ever so happily. "Castiel... I love it."

I smiled. "Really?"

"Absolutely. It's... beautiful."

"I just... I saw it, and immediately thought of you."

She admired the swan necklace in her hand. There were two golden swans facing one another, their foreheads touching, creating a heart shape with their necks; one swan was bigger than the other. They both had a cubic zirconia embedded in their bodies. It reminded me of her swan brooch, and I knew she must have it.

She pecked my cheek. "You are the sweetest, Castiel."

I looked down shyly, unsure how to respond. My smile was, as one might say in a metaphorical sense, glued to my face. The mere sound of Felicity's voice made me happy, and whenever she was happy, I felt like my life was made complete.

I looked back at her, into her soft, kind grey eyes. "Um... shall I help you put it on?"

Her smile grew a bit. "Sure."

I got the necklace on her, which looked lovely with the necklace she already wore. It fell just below the heart shaped charm. It looked absolutely perfect.

I stroked my thumb over her brooch, which was pinned to her red leather jacket that she wore over her red plaid shirt with the tears that were caused by her wings. I wanted to see those wings again. They were so beautiful, just like her.

For some reason, she started blushing. Perhaps she read my thoughts. This came to mind, and I blushed as well. Of course she could read minds.

"Wanna go upstairs?" She asked using telepathy.

I smiled and thought back, "Wherever you want to go, I'll be there."

She smiled and looked to Sam and Dean. "Boys, we're gonna go upstairs. I think we've had enough Christmas cheer for one day." She looked back at me as she said the last part.

"C'mon," Dean picked up the present I'd gotten him. "Haven't even opened the presents we got from Cas. This should be good."

I blushed even more, remembering what I'd gotten them. "Um...-"

Dean unwrapped the box and opened it. He seemed both confused and amused by its contents.

"Wow," He chuckled. "This is... really something, Cas. Really."

"You're disappointed, aren't you?" I muttered.

"No, man, of course not. It's just... well, unexpected."

I sighed. "You're disappointed."

"No, Cas, I'm not disappointed. Really, I'm not. I... I love it. I really do. I mean, what could I do without... a candle and Axe?"

I hesitated. "Um... is that a rhetorical question? Because I am not sure what Axe is."

He chuckled. "C'mon, Sammy, open your box." He patted Sam on the shoulder.

Sam got his present and opened it. He chuckled a bit. "Wow, Cas. Um... a beach towel and... shaving cream. Uh, thanks. I think."

"Yeah, man. Thanks." Dean smiled. I loved to make him smile. A grin or a smirk is one thing, but an actual, proper smile? It was certainly rare.

I couldn't help but smile back. "I... I'm glad you like it. I know nothing of gift giving."

"Oh, I don't know about that," Felicity smiled. "I think you did and excellent job of finding me a gift. Thank you for that, by the way."

"And did I thank you for the key to your heart?" I smiled and pressed my lips to hers. I loved this girl, and while I couldn't bring myself to say it, I knew it to be true. I just hoped she knew.

We separated. "C'mon, lover. Let's go upstairs now." Felicity murmured.

I nodded slightly. "Yes, let's."

We flew upstairs, into our bedroom, sitting on the bed. Echo was resting by the door, unaware of our arrival.

Felicity removed her jacket, letting her wings show. Rather than the light baby blue they were when they first appeared, over time they had become a radiant, shimmering shade of ultramarine, that mesmerized me every time I saw them.

I ran my fingers through them, taking in their sleek, glossy texture. Now that her wings had "matured", there would be subtle differences in texture, color, size, etcetera. Rather than three feet, her wings now extended to five and a half feet; almost as big as my own.

She smiled as I felt her feathers. She reached forward and felt mine, sending a tingle and a shiver throughout my entire body. It was clearly noticeable, since her smile grew a bit.

My eyes slid closed as she bunched a handful of feathers in her fist. It was rough, but in a good way. In a pretty damn good way. It caused me to clench my fist in her feathers as well, but she didn't seem to care; she didn't object to it, anyway.

Our sudden kiss was chaste and lustful, as my chapped lips connected with her soft ones. My hands moved down the length of her wings, my own wings beginning to flutter. They hadn't done that in a long time. They stretched out, flapping and throbbing, most of the black feathers molting. We were surrounded by a pile of my disgraceful feathers.

My wings began to feel a bit sore, causing me to pull back, the wings going limp.

"You okay?" Felicity asked.

My breathing was heavy, and I felt weak. "I'm fine. My... my wings, they're just... just a bit sore. It's nothing."

She placed her palm on my forehead. "Castiel, you're burning up. What's wrong?"

"Nothing." I insisted. Though I knew it was definitely something. It must've been my stolen grace.

"You should get some rest, okay?" She held my face in her hands.

I placed my hands on hers, looking into her grey eyes. I nodded, laying down on the bed. She laid down with me, cuddling close to me.

I wanted to embrace this time with her, because I knew that there would come a day when this grace became the death of me. I knew I was dying, but in all my pride, I chose not to find help. I was nothing but a fool.

"Just go to sleep, Castiel." Felicity whispered.

I sighed. "I can't. I feel like... well, I don't know what I feel like."

She wrapped her wings around me, and I started to relax. I let the warmth of her wings lull me into sleep.

._.__.~A Few Hours Later~.__._.

I awoke, unsure of what awoke me. I looked down at Felicity, who was asleep in my arms. I smiled down at her, running my fingers through her hair.

I glanced up at the door, where I saw the silhouette of a man. It was difficult to discern in the shadows, but it was clearly there. I quickly sat up, causing Felicity to awaken.

"Who are you?" I asked the figure.

"Castiel?" Felicity mumbled.

"Hello again, Castiel," The man greeted. "Felicity. Ah, such a lovely pair. Just perfect for each other."

"Django?" Felicity sneered. I suddenly remembered the dream I had when I drank too much eggnog. It was Django.

I realized he had Sam and Dean by the collars of their shirts. They were gagged so they couldn't speak. "What are you doing with them?" I asked, an angered tone to my voice.

"Nothing I won't do with you." I could see his smile as the dull light reflected off his white teeth.

"What're you doing here?" Felicity asked anxiously.

"I think you know why I'm here." He retorted.

I grabbed Felicity's hand. "No. I won't let you take her."

He chuckled. "That's cute. But I'm not talking about her."

The reality of this situation started to sink in, and I didn't like it at all. "You mean-"

"That's right, Cassie. Now, enough chitchat," He snapped his fingers and I was suddenly at his side, gagged. "Time to go."

And we were gone, leaving Felicity behind.
