"You're also good in the electric guitar?" I asked Brandy.
"I'm good with all," he answered as he smirked at me.
I rolled my eyes.
It was a warm Sunday morning and we were at Will's house alone with Rey who didn't seem to be interested in anything we were doing.
Will's house was a double story and it looked like a palace. I now understood why mom said he was helping financially, he was stinking rich. Almost every room had white tiles and chandeliers. The kitchen had golden tiles stuck on the wall and white tiles on the floor. A beautiful chandelier with diamonds stuck on it, hanged from the ceiling.
My favorite room of all was the music studio. It was much smaller than the school's but there were a lot of instruments. Brandy had started playing a song and the electric guitar, trying to show off to me.
"Isn't there a room where I can also be free?"Rey asked looking around at the room.
"She does art," I said to Brandy.
"There's an art room just across the corridor," Brandy said putting down the guitar.
"Great," Rey smiled and left.
"What song should we play?" Brandy asked.
I walked over to the white grand piano and sat down on the chair.
"Duet with me for Say Something," I said as I started playing.
"Say something, I'm giving up on you,"he sang.
"I'll be the one if you want me to. Anywhere I would have followed you. Say something I'm giving up on you."
Then we sang together for the verse.
We spent an hour singing different songs that involved piano. We exchanged instruments and I soon ended up playing the violin. One of the most peaceful instruments I knew.
"I think we should check on Rey now," I said as I walked out playing the guitar.
Brandy laughed and caught up with me.
We got into the art room to find Rey painting with eyes closed.
It was an art of a wildlife safari with different animals that usually roam about the tall dry grass.
"Africa," I whispered.
Africa was my home. My roots came from there. A long time ago, people from mostly the Northern Africa were made as slaves and taken across the world. It hurts to just think of all the torture they went through and the torture some of them still face. Blacks have been suffering for a long time and even though a lot of people with humanity tried to stop the racism, it still continues. And the amount of racism rises uncontrollably.
"You're super talented," Brandy said as he sat down at the nearest chair.
"Thank you," Renee smiled and turned back to her painting.
I also sat down at a chair and began to play a song on the guitar. It always helped Rey focus on her art and understand what she was doing. I remembered at a young age, she'd sketch and I'd play my guitar. Un-awkward silence always took over and we'd get lost in what we were doing. It always had been the two of us but now we weren't that close anymore. But I now had Brandy. He wouldn't be able to fill the gap and wound Rey left in my heart when she said she wasn't my sister anymore but at least he'd make it heal and fill the gap with what he had.
Brandon took out his phone and started clicking pictures. Yesterday night I had checked my Instagram and saw pictures he had taken when we were watching the movie. We had only met that same day and he was letting the world know that I was his sister.
I looked over to Brandon who was taking a video now. I smiled at the camera. "I'm with my brother," I cheered and he laughed.
"Where do you learn?" Rey asked as she finished her painting and carried it gingerly out.
We followed behind and I was still playing a song. "So will I" by Hillsong Worship.
"Lincoln High."
"What?" Rey gasped as she led the way to outside.
"How come we never saw you?" I said.
"You never knew me and I never knew you. We could have came across each other but not known each other."
"I don't remember that," Rey said as she placed the the painting on the lawn.
Brandon shrugged.
After a while of talking, even when Rey always brushed me off because she didn't want to talk to me, I intentionally pushed Brandy into the pool and he glared at me with steaming eyes. I laughed my heart out and Rey grinned. Before I knew it, I felt hands around my legs and I was pulled into the pool. Rey started laughing and Brandy smirked. I knitted the brow and splashed him with water and he splashed back.
"I like Brandon," I said to mom and Rey as we prepared the table.
"Of course you would. I'm likeable," he said as he came in.
I smiled, threw my arms around his arms and squeezed him hard.
"Raven," he gasped.
Mom smiled and Renee rolled his eyes.
"Are you two back forever this time?" I asked as we ate our meal.
Mom and Will exchanged looks and Rey scowled. Clearly it showed that she didn't want them to be together. Rey had completely changed. It wasn't only my fault she had become this kind of person, she too had allowed herself to change and I wasn't going to trouble myself. I had Brandon now.
"Maybe," the both said returning to their meal.
"Come on," Brandon said.
"You and Raven will become the death of us one day," Will said as he pointed his fork at the two of us.
"They have become an unbreakable team," mom said laughing.
"I've lost my appetite," Rey said and stood up. "Excuse me."
Everyone looked at each other confused.
"If y'all need me, I'll be in the art room."
I resumed to my eating and Brandon stared at me. I looked at him and he shrugged and shook his head.
"Jealousy?" he asked.
I smiled at him and pulled his cheeks.
"I'm glad this time, you aren't running away from me," I said as I sat down at the piano.
"I never ran away from you," he replied strumming his electric guitar.
It was evening and Will had refused for mom to go because it was completely dark. Rey was still in the art room and mom was watching television with Will.
"How are you capable to survive all the humiliation you get at school."
I stopped playing the piano and he quickly apologized.
"No, don't," I said.
"I don't know how I'm still able to handle this but I try. I realized that crying over spilt milk wouldn't help me. I just stayed true to myself and never let anything they said get to me."
"Wow, you're a brave girl aren't you," he said.
"More like a sore loser," Rey said.
"A backstabber, a pretender, a female dog."
I guess she was scared to say the actual word in front of Brandy but children of these days, know a lot of things.
"Uhm…"
"I don't know how you like her. Maybe she might hurt you too."
"Well at least she's not self centered like you."
"Ohhh. Is that so. So this is what you're teaching him."
"I didn't do anything Renee."
"Its rather you stick to me Brandon. In that way you won't be hurt."
"Well the first day I came to your house, you weren't there. And I guess you didn't want to see me. I got to know her first. So I'm sticking to her. And I'm certain, she's a much more better sister than you."
Brandon was really the best
