Chapter Seven
The next day during math Courtney was about to lose it.
"Duncan. You need to do the math right now before I STAB YOU!"
"But I don't wanna do it! It's boring."
"Well if you don't do it, your life's gonna be boring, because you'll end up on the streets!"
"Cool! I can be a savage looking for food, stealing wallets! Sounds fun!"
"Ugh!"
"Chill Princess. Hey, whaddya say we ditch class to hit the Seven Eleven?"
"I don't know what's so wrong with you that you think I'D ever do THAT, but it's not going to happen!" That day, they actually finished the math in class. Courtney noted that its because she taught him his times tables the day before, saving the time it would have taken to type equations into the calculator.
"Hey do you and your nerd buddy wanna hang with me and my friends today at lunch?"
"First of all, his name is Tom, and he is NOT a nerd! Second of all, I don't sit with losers."
"I usually don't either, but I asked you didn't I?" Duncan said as they gathered their things for their next class.
"Did you just call me a loser?"Courtney said angrily, and Duncan laughed.
"You're cute when you're mad."
"Ugh!" Courtney stormed out of the room.
Later that day, during her last class, Courtney got a text.
'wanna chill aftr scool agen today?' She frowned and briskly typed back under the desk, not wanting to be caught texting during class.
'Who is this? Also, you spelled like three words wrong and didn't capitalize "wanna".' 'this is duncan princes'
'Your horrible capitalization and spelling is killing me, and no, I do not want to hang out with you, EVER.'
'com on we had so much fun ystrdy and i need 2 prctise my divison skillz'
'Fine, But only to practice division!'
'i new u lyked me princes'
'I do not like you!'
So they went to her house after school to practice division. After about 2 hours, Duncan was so done.
"Okay, I think we've practiced enough. Wanna hit the town?"
"NO. I already told you that we're ONLY doing math this time."
"You are the most uptight person I have ever met."
"Me? Uptight? I'm the least uptight person I know."
"Whatever floats your boat."
"Ugh! Well why are you so loose? All its ever done is gotten you into trouble!"
"Ha. But if we got caught doing something that we're not supposed to do, we'd both be in trouble, then we would have each other."
"You make an interesting point. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to take a little break."
"Yes!"
So they went to the busy part of the town.
"Look it's the cupcake place. You ever been there?"
"Yeah. I go there a lot with Tom. He's like, my best friend ever. But according to you he's just a loser nerd, huh?"
"Okay, maybe he's not as much of a loser as I thought." They kept walking.
"So, do you like Tom?" Duncan randomly blurted out.
"What? NO! And he's like, the gayest person I've ever met anyways!"
"Oh, good."
"Why?"
"Because I like you. I already told you." Courtney blushed. She admired his upfrontness.
"Whatever."
"You know you like me, just admit it."
"Our relationship is nothing more than math partners."
"Oh yeah, then why are we roaming the streets of downtown when we're supposed to be doing math?" Courtney tried to think of a witty comeback, but failed.
"Ugh. Just shut up."
"Yes sir."
"Ma'am."
"Yes Mother."
"Hey! Ugh, you bother me so much!" Duncan just laughed. They continued walking till they saw a thrift store.
"Oh hey, it's a thrift store! I do all my shopping at these. Wanna check it out?" Asked Duncan.
"Sure. I've never been inside the thrift store, I always shop online."
"Yeah, cause your parents are rich."
"I'd rather use the term successful."
"I'd rather use the term successful." Duncan mocked in a high voice. Courtney scowled at him and they went inside.
"AAAYYY!"
"AAAYY!" Gwen Fahlenbock grinned as she saw Duncan walk in. Gwen walked over and they fist bumped.
"Oh hi Gwen." Courtney said, glaring.
"Hey..." Gwen replied nervously.
"Me and Gwen met on my last week. We talk a lot during the classes we have together."
"Yeah, well right now you're hanging out with ME, not HER, so I think we should go somewhere else." Courtney said, then she grabbed Duncan's hand and pulled him outside, leaving Gwen shocked.
"Geez! What do you have against her?"
"Nothing. I just thought it was rude that she was butting in on our time together."
"Hold up. Are you jealous?"
"What? No! Why would I be jealous? I don't even like you!"
"Ha. Whatever you say, Princess." Courtney blushed. They ended up going to an arcade nearby, and got into a big contest of who could get a higher score on a game called 'Attack of the Killers,' where you have to kill in order not to be killed. Duncan was better at first, but Courtney got really good at it as time went by.
"HAHA! Take that you stupid murderer!" Courtney said as she aggressively jabbed at the controller.
"Yes! I did it! I beat your score!" Courtney screamed after her character died and the score showed.
"Oh yeah? Well I'm gonna beat the score you beat my score with!" This went on for a while, till Duncan finally got a score that Courtney just could not beat.
"I totally could have beat you. I woke up five minutes earlier than usual today, and it really threw me off my A game." Courtney protested. Duncan just laughed and smirked.
"What?"
"Noth'in. Know if they got any good Froyo around here? Cause YOLO am I right?"
"Sorry, I don't use the term YOLO. And yes, just walk with me, I'll bring us there."
"Kay. And whatdaya mean you don't use the term YOLO? I live by YOLO. You Only Live Once. It's like a way of saying, when you get a chance, take it. Because you don't know if you'll ever get that chance again, ya know what I'm saying?"
"I guess." They had Froyo and talked for a while. When they finally got back to Courtney's house, it was 8:30.
"We musta spent more time in the arcade then we thought."
"I guess so. And Duncan? I really did have a lot of fun with you today."
"Thanks. I always have fun when I'm with you Princess. Sweet dreams." Courtney blushed as she watched him walk off. Maybe he wasn't as bad as she thought.
