SOME KIND OF DISASTER

I'M THE GHOST OF MY MISTAKES / AND IT'S ALL MY FAULT THAT I'M STILL THE ONE YOU WANT. /WHAT ARE YOU AFTER? / SOME KIND OF DISASTER?

SYNOPSIS.

Sawyer Lee is trying for calm. Really, she is. She's even started a diary to document her feelings on the daily. As much as she can be bothered to, anyway. Every year, her New Year's resolution goes something like this:

1. Stop getting detentions.
2. Stop getting into fist fights with people in the hallways.
3. Yoga. (Heard it's very therapeutic.)
4. Get Dumbledore's permission to finally leave the Quidditch team.

And every year, it just isn't working. Albeit, it isn't her fault that she's got a treacherous temper as short as a germ, and a volatile personality that's both aggressive and apathetic. Seven years and it's still a wonder to everybody, including herself, how she's a Hufflepuff, of all things. It's a worldwide phenomenon how it's so easy to rile her up, get her to lash out with unbridled aggression.

Then there had been that incident back in First Year. The incident that'd cemented her reputation as resident angry soul, the unhinged psychopath—careful, better not talk to Psycho Sawyer or she'll crack your skull open too. The incident that'd resulted in weekly counselling sessions with Dumbledore. The incident that'd landed her on the Quidditch team after her second year as the Hufflepuff team's Beater—she'd discovered, during flying lessons and Quidditch tryouts, that she had an affinity for hitting flying objects with bats—in an agreement with Dumbledore to keep her anger in check. Ever since, she'd had less outbursts. So Quidditch became an outlet, a necessity she couldn't leave even if she asked. But that didn't mean she cared for the sport at all. Her teammates, even less.

Honestly, at the rate she's going, Sawyer's expecting to be expelled any moment soon, and it's only to her relief that her mother doesn't believe in howlers or harsh discipline (not that it's really worked to quell her outbursts). Plus, it helps that her father doesn't know how to work one because he's a muggle. Her twin brother, Wyatt, is a different story entirely—they might've been plucked from the same womb just minutes apart, but Sawyer's pretty sure he's from a different dimension entirely. It doesn't have to be said but it's obvious he's the "better" more favoured twin.

She doesn't even want to get started on Wyatt's irritating, Quidditch-obsessed best friend, Oliver Wood, who's always somehow getting under her skin. Who, now, wants to help her solve all her anger issues while claiming that he can make her love Quidditch, make her see it less as a prison to fulfill her end of the bargain and more of an enjoyable sport.

Because unlike most people, Oliver Wood can't sit around watching Sawyer—his best friend's twin sister, the girl he's known since childhood, Hogwarts' best Beater and the Hufflepuff Quidditch team's deadliest investment—destroy herself time and time again.

AUTHOR'S NOTE.

ok so i'm bringing this back. let it be known that my oc is very problematic, a lot of the things she does i don't condone (aka violence, abusive behaviour, being exceptionally rude) but this story is also about growth and development.

honestly what i don't feel is discussed enough/at all is keeping yourself from continuing the cycle. growing up in a violent, mentally abusive home and then looking on in horror and catching yourself as you realise you're now acting violently and having outbursts just like the people who made you cower in a corner and cry at age 6. and then feeling intense disgust and self hatred but not knowing how to deal with the unresolved anger

so that's my aim i guess. it is possible to break out of a cycle. nobody can decide the type of person you end up being except you.

also just because it says in the summary that oliver wants to help sawyer express her anger in healthier ways doesn't mean i'm romanticising anything. i won't. i'm the last person on this earth to ever do that.
